US Vogue August 2014 : Blake Lively by Mario Testino

It's nice enough considering it's US Vogue, I expected nothing more. Blake looks fresh, but the rest is nothing new/special.

It amazes me how little White actresses need to accomplish to land a Vogue cover compared to their Black counterparts. Pretty much every Black actress or singer who's gotten a Vogue cover has had an Oscar nomination, an Oscar win or a Grammy accompanied by global success. That Blake's biggest achievement is a stint on Gossip Girls speaks volumes. I mean she has never gotten any sort of nomination for her acting-- no Emmy, no golden globe, not even a MTV movie award.

You speak the truth! And its even more jarring when one realizes that both previous Blake covers were the worst sellers of that year. But as long as Wintour loves you.........

Although the choice of cover star is questionable, as many of you have articulated very well, I actually like the cover. Is Blake Lively a fresh choice in 2014? No. Are others more 'deserving'? Absolutely. That being said I think the shoot is beautiful and I'm actually excited to buy it and see the cover in real life - I think it's gorgeous. Let's hope Vogue can find a way to combine these lovely visuals with fresher cover star choices in the future (although if the rumours of Reese Witherspoon having an upcoming cover are true then I guess that's hoping too much)

I'm shocked that they didn't milk her relationship with Ryan Reynolds on the headline. Giving her a cover does seem quite pointless, but the ed is really beautiful.

amy adams name on the cover, but not actually on the cover...ugh

THIS.

Also love that this is the "Age Issue" but they have heavily retouched Blake Lively's face, and she is all of 26 years old.

Screw Vogue!

I'm probably one of the few people here who is actually a fan of Blake by the look of things, don't know why but I've always adored her, I think she's gorgeous and always photographs really well.

I'm not overly keen on the styling here, it's a bit messy but regardless she looks beautiful and happy to see her on the cover again.

Blake looks really lovely but I wish they would stop with these country style editorials. Two or thee times a year is overkill.

While I´m definitely not excited to see her on the cover, I have to admit it´s a pretty good one. At least much better than her previous Vogue covers. Although I still cannot believe this is her third cover already! Why?

She's a pretty boring and bland actress (tho she's undeniably beautiful) but I love the cover shot and editorials. Very refreshing. I think her big and warm smile is really inviting on the cover (hate the big jacket tho)

What a missed opportunity to have Amy Adams on the cover. It is odd that she's never been on the cover yet has accomplished so much and is at least as recognizable / famous a person as Blake. Plus she's got a lot more going on than a blog launch...

The Blake cover reminds me of Gwyneth's 1997 cover by Meisel, only with bulkier styling.

The public is over the original GOOP, why does Anna think that the public would like GOOP 2.0 any better? What a boring choice of cover star!

I would have loved to see Bruce Weber's take on this theme. He would have knocked it out of the park!

I actually like the cover. Yes, it could've been better and it could've been someone else but never mind. It does loook like middle 2000s though.

^^^ I really like this idea. Lovely cover and editorial although I don't understand why one would choose Blake Lively for an age issue. Anna's going to choose whoever she wants to put on the cover but at the end of the day at least make the cover subject and issue align??

When I read people talking about actresses deserving a Vogue cover my eyes start to roll so fast is crazy! I mean, deserving a cover? What is that? Why does, in terms of fashion, Emma Stone deserve a Vogue cover more than this girl? Or Charlize, or Lupita... And I don't even like Blake since I barely know who she is, but why having an accomplished career as an actress should be a bonus to get the cover of a 'fashion' magazine?

I would 'understand' it if we were talking about a model that has been in every campaign, that is having a momentum... (And not even that, since the editor chooses who she wants). But someone who's famous for acting or singing or having a reality show?

That shows how far from fashion this magazine is... This is all a complete joke.

I think the idea of "deserving" a magazine cover is also semi-ludicrous, but there is something to be said about who does / doesn't resonate with the readership of a magazine. If the subject sells well and is appreciated by people picking up the magazine it makes sense even if the person wears mostly burlap sacks and hasn't done much of anything.

However, if the subject really doesn't sell well (Blake's last two issues were worst sellers) isn't doing anything relevant and isn't much liked by the readers then why exactly should they be on the cover? Granted it goes back to the whims of editors, but damn someone at Vogue is either really obsessed with Gossip Girl, or is repaying a blood debt to the Lively family.

And I say this as someone who likes Blake.

Her THIRD cover... I mean, I can't. There are so many other choices. August would've been a great month to break someone new like Nina Dobrev, Viola Davis, Cara Delevingne, Karlie Kloss, and the list goes on. WTF...

As much as Anna is simply favouring Blake over some other more relevant actresses etc. more the cover looks okay. I don't totally get the ed though. A native headdress could totally stir up controversy so I'm quite surprised for how they didn't use it.
