US Vogue August 2021 : Dr. Jill Biden by Annie Leibovitz

Sorry but I don't said anything about her age. I'm talking about media and politics..MEDIA AND POLITICS. I have a strong point of view about both themes mixed because I live in Argentina. There's a gap in society called "grieta" between two sides. Since 2010 every media took a position about which people they will show and the ones they won't, also affecting the credibility of their products. It went bad here. You can't trust in any media because there are two differents realities, and don't matter if they say a truth or a lie, you doubt about it everytime. I'm not mad about Jill, Kamala and Amanda. I talk about Vogue and how are they're playing at this moment. They're not saints. Meanwhile they put Jill on the cover, showing the good side of this year (I hated with a passion the DT administration and I'm glad they never put MT on its cover), Conde Nast is firing people around the world. Let's talk about Anna, Vogue and CN.

Except of course the first lady before Jill Biden, lol.

Was the shoot with Nancy and exclusive and do you know in which issue it appears? Looks like a candid to me. I recall the media had a very love/hate relationship with her. I'd be keen to read what Vogue wrote of her at the time.

Your statement implies that Melania Trump wanted press coverage and magazine features and that Vogue or CN is somehow "on one side" by not putting her on a cover. She largely avoided coverage - unless she could earn money from it. And if a potential cover subject won't consent to an interview or allow surrogates to be interviewed then what's the point?

If you'll recall Melania Trump had a royalty deal with Getty Images - if a magazine wanted to use a photo they'd have to pay Getty to use it which in turn would pay Melania. And "positive coverage only" that was the fine print of the licensing deal. Marie Claire fell for this.

Here's an "authorized" Tatler/CN feature from November 2020 that has a short interview with her and has extensive quotes from very old friends serving as surrogates. But if you'll notice they did not put her on the cover or use an old licensed photo. This was the only exclusive to my knowledge. Can you recall any magazine feature with an exclusive shoot?

The White Press Corps were not even allowed to film her speaking on engagements allegedly due to her accent - they could only shoot silent "B roll" footage.

In contrast Nancy Reagan received a lifetime CFDA award in 1989 after 8 years as first lady. And there was extensive coverage of the white tie state dinners at the White House in Vogue.

There is that famous image of Nancy Regan in the famous Galanos dress by Horst P Horst. I think the candid you saw was taken from the perspective of someone behind Horst. Unsure which 1981 issue it ran in.

Pretty, like the good old days. No Billie, no overtly stupid styling choices to please the Gen Z, just an influential figure standing there happily. Political or not I don’t care, the image is uplifting and nice.

It's a textbook US Vogue first lady by Leibovitz cover portrait, but it's nice enough. The composition is slightly annoying though and I find the positioning of the Washington Monument in the background really irksome.

So the rumors about DT being mad at Vogue because they never put Melania on the cover are fake?!

Melania Trump May Be Regretting This 2017 'Vogue' Encounter Now That Jill Biden's Cover Is Out

Former first lady Melania Trump had a long relationship with Vogue before she ever entered the White House, one well-documented by longtime Vogue staffer and former friend Stephanie Winston Wolkoff in her tell-all book Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship With the First Lady. In 2005, over a decade before her husband Donald Trump’s inauguration, young model Melania was even featured on the cover of Vogue as Trump’s bride-to-be in her Dior wedding dress. As First Lady, however, she wasn’t extended the same offer.

First Lady Dr. Jill Biden’s Vogue cover is coming out now less than a year into President Biden’s term, and Winston Wolkoff describes a request to profile Melania Trump coming in from Vogue within the first few months too — one she ultimately rejected when they couldn’t guarantee her the cover. Many have assumed that Melania was purposely snubbed by the magazine, but Winston Wolkoff’s story draws into question whether a Melania Trump cover could have happened after all — and why Melania was so certain it wouldn’t.

Per Melania and Me, the magazine reached out to the former FLOTUS early enough in Trump’s administration that Winston Wolkoff was still acting as her adviser, a position she left by February 2018.

“Vogue reached out to Melania, hoping to schedule an Annie Leibovitz photo shoot of the First Lady in the White House, with writer Rob Haskell shadowing her for a few days to write a profile. All that sounded great, but the magazine could not guarantee that Melania would appear on the cover.

“For the record, not all First Ladies are put on the cover of Vogue. Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton, yes. Laura and Barbara Bush, no,” she continued. “Melania wasn’t going to do anything for Vogue or any other magazine if she wasn’t going to be on the cover. ‘Give me a break!’ she texted. ‘Forget it.'”

Later in the book, Winston Wolkoff recalls Melania telling her over the phone about Vogue‘s coverage of Stormy Daniels: “Annie Leibovitz shot the p*rn hooker,” she said, naming the same photographer who shot Jill Biden’s 2021 Vogue cover and with whom Melania had been offered a shoot as First Lady in 2017.

“I’m so glad I didn’t do that profile in Vogue,“ she then said, per Wolkoff. “You know, they came back two months ago and asked me to do it again. ‘It might be a cover,’ they said. Are you kidding me? I don’t give a f**k about Vogue or any other magazine. They would never put me on the cover.”

Former president Trump’s policies and reputation imposed certain social restrictions on Melania that she hadn’t felt before his entry into politics. Namely, her warm welcome from Anna Wintour, Met Gala invitations, and Upper East Side social elite status were slipping away as former friends sought to make their allegiances known elsewhere, and it seems from these reported conversations that Melania did not fail to notice.

We have no idea whether Vogue approached First Lady Biden with the guarantee of a cover, or whether Melania Trump’s profile might have turned into a cover had she accepted their offer. In the end, Jill has a Vogue cover as First Lady and Melania didn’t, and we will have to take her at her word that that’s just fine with her.

Nope, my statement never implied anything along those lines. It was a jokey footnote to your post about Vogue's longstanding coverage of first ladies. That it was paused over the past 4 years. I never touched on any reasons why it was paused so I don't know where you're getting that from.
But anyway, Melania's friend released an audio note to CNN last year which revealed that Vogue had in fact reached out to her twice for a feature only. But she turned it down. What I gathered was that she wanted the cover as well, not that she didn't want to be featured in Vogue. Her interest in Vogue's masthead changes, Beyonce's Sept 18 cover, and making direct statements about Anna alone showed that she did care about Vogue despite what she said in that clip.

She's talking about my post Benn. But if you write my name here is 7 years of bad luck. If you put " likes" all the time in some post against my word you're safe. You will always find the same names as I said on a thread about bullying in this site. But It's okay.

Terrible dress, but an otherwise lovely shot. The Washington Memorial in the background is a very nice touch. I do wish that she would have been moved more to the right. There is too much of that wall in the frame. She's not the most interesting person in the world, but she makes sense for this particular moment in time.

The dress is an ODLR commercial Resort look, which is now ON SALE

Im wondering if

A. She owned it so they didn't get any clap back about her wardrobe (AOC Vibes)

or

B. They shot it and it was supposed to be an earlier issue but postponed it?

it’s a cute cover but it’s also pedestrian as hell.

The cover shot of Jill was shot by Annie on April 26th. The story mention's their pet's death which happened on June 19th as the magazine was going to press.

It appears as though Jill does not have a stylist.

Seems like the above shot is part of Gabriela's designer profile.
I believe there's an edit styled by Carlos Nazario and set in Paris, which seems to be the highlight of this issue.

As expected, the cover is already picking up a lot of publicity on both sides of the Atlantic. Overwhelmingly positive. But when a cover is this hyped the content is usually supbar.

I love it very classic portrait that will still be current years to come. The more laidback approachable approach is true to her actual personality and am glad they didnt do some contrived shot of her wearing a shimmering Versace gown in the garden.. Anne is the best choice for shooting politicians and royalty.
