US Vogue February 2008 : Kate Bosworth by Mario Testino

^^Thats it?So so weird they didnt have a bigger feature on the wedding, and what do you guys think about Flash? I kind of dilsiked it when i first saw it,but now i think its a nice change.^_^

I actually liked that they used Catherine in this issue, it's far better than the overly redundant jumping eds with Caroline and Raquel.

Surprised at the lack of a Meisel editorial.
And why does Julien d'Ys insist on making hair GREY and OLD? ala Daria's last edit with Mario Testino... what is with that? And rock salt on the eyelids...??

My biggest issue with US Vogue is that it is simply too 'old'.

The clothes, the hair, the shoes, the jewelry, the makeup, the typography, the layout, the editorial themes, the articles...it's all targeted towards 40+

Which is fine, for that age group. But I feel Vogue does a great disservice to their masses of readers when they exclude the aesthetics of younger generations. And because of it, they've become somewhat of a niche magazine rather than a general source for of-the-moment-fashion.

ugh, US vogue bores me to tears. the dullest cover I've seen in ages!
blaaarrghghhsdakjlf;awht23985ytkagsd

agyness looks amazing
cant wait to see kate . . please + thank you ! :woot:

i hope you're joking...

Why would I be joking? OK, perhaps she needs a bit more on her resume than what she has now, but in a couple of years, I think she should be eligible. Kate's credentials so far are Blue Crush and playing Lois Lane. Ellen just got a Golden Globe nod, so why not? I just think Vogue should switch it up.

^Ellen Page would have been a good choice. Back to back Kates, back to back blondes, back to back closeup face pics for the cover is pretty boring.

Can anyone scan the rest of the Kate Bosworth article/pics?

:(I'll be buying this only for the LV ad

As far as well-bred/private school-going/clean-imaged (conservative?) sweethearts go, Kate Bosworth has one straightlaced leg up on Emmy Roussum, though not by a whole lot. Occassionally she can pull off an interesting outfit (mixing prints with a scarf and an Etro dress), but a lot of times her choices either seem too pretty in a bland way (Calvin Klein), much like her face, or have too much character for someone coming from her pedigree, like whenever she wears head-to-toe Proenza Schouler. I do think she does casual well though. I will probably think she is a good dresser if I see her in real-life. She accessorizes well (crazy red Wayferers notwithstanding) without allowing the newest 'It' items to overshadow her own aesthetic.

I hope my 'pedigree' comment does not offend anybody. I am not saying that people of a certain upbringing should be confined to a certain way of dressing, but a lot of times who you are, your age, your image, and your life experiences invariably set the tone of your wardrobe as they should. Some people do dressing against type well, some don't. I myself am Asian, and I would look absolutely ridiculous if decked out in full-on Victorian getup (think Keira Knightley in The Duchess). But kudos to Eva Green for being able to pull off a beautiful kimono-inspired Dior gown (the one with a red sash, not the fuschia disaster). When I see Ms. Bosworth wearing something that is unexpected of her, I don't really think she looks authentic much.

She looks better with bold lips anyway. The one-pager from the Jan. issue packed more punch. Pale lips on a blonde is a safer but ultimately uninteresting. With bold lips, they could've created another eye-catching cover a la Natalia Vodianova from July '07.

As much as I enjoyed Juno, I am glad that Ellen Page wouldn't be on the cover. Vogue is not Entertainment Weekly, at least not fully.

Two months of 10+ pages only-girl edit of Natalia Vodianova is too much. Did they really put "chic sheath," "smart suit," and "impeccable" all in one sentence?

Raymond Meier I used to love, but he hasn't done anything interesting in the last year or so.

I am very surprised that Georgina Goodman only got one page. Bazaar did a feature on her. She is sort of a guilty pleasure of mine as far as the jet-set/high-society lifestyle is concerned.

My thoughts exactly!!
And Catherine looks amazing.

I don't like Natalia's hair and make-up though

I don't get it. Why would Ellen be better suited for the latter? She's not really the type to be in tabloids and whatnot, like many other young starlets (as far as I can tell). She seems to eschew the spotlight. Vogue seems to want high-caliber actresses who are thin, young and white for their covers, who either star in Blockbusters or win awards. Ellen Page fits that category  and appears to be more credible than the Keira Knightleys and Kirsten Dunsts. Plus, sources state Ellen is on the cover of the new Teen Vogue. I think with a couple of more successful films, she should get the cover of Vogue.

keira and kirsten both have been in the business longer and have better careers.plus ellen is canadian and she doesnt have any style i think.i liked her in juno and hard candy, but she looks like an awkward teenager.i think teen vogue is a good choice for her,but she's not up there yet to be on vogue cover.

I completely agree about the edge Keira and Kirsten have over Ellen Page, and that being on the cover of Teen Vogue doesn't necessarily qualify you for its sister publication. I don't think her being Canadian has much to do with this though. For example, I don't think being Canadian will stop Rachel McAdams from getting a cover when The Time Traveler's Wife comes out.

And I didn't mean Entertainment Weekly as a tabloid magazine! It is credible journalism. Good journalism, I might add. I used it as an example because EW is more likely to give spotlight on a breakthrough performer than Vogue.

I don't want to turn this into a pro-Ellen Page topic  but I think it speaks well of her to have amassed such a good reputation as an actress so far, very early in her career. Despite only having been in a few films, she's won a Golden Globe nomination and critics love her. Now, turn back to the early stages of Keira's career. No one was really harping on her acting talents from Beckham and Pirates. Even with Kate Bosworth, her biggest film to date is a popular Blockbuster and not much else. It just seems that, if Vogue is truly in the business of putting promising young actresses on the cover who are credible actresses, Ellen Page is a pretty good choice. I honestly don't see what makes Keira so popular, besides her fitting perfectly inside "the box". She was hand-picked as a Vogue favorite early on and I feel like they were trying to force us to like her. I've felt the same way about several other stars. It just seems like they pick from a very small pool and whoever deviates from what's expected even a little is denied.

My mistake. :flower: I just think they should broaden their perspective a little bit. I was so chagrined with they gave Kirsten that September cover.
