As far as well-bred/private school-going/clean-imaged (conservative?) sweethearts go, Kate Bosworth has one straightlaced leg up on Emmy Roussum, though not by a whole lot. Occassionally she can pull off an interesting outfit (mixing prints with a scarf and an Etro dress), but a lot of times her choices either seem too pretty in a bland way (Calvin Klein), much like her face, or have too much character for someone coming from her pedigree, like whenever she wears head-to-toe Proenza Schouler. I do think she does casual well though. I will probably think she is a good dresser if I see her in real-life. She accessorizes well (crazy red Wayferers notwithstanding) without allowing the newest 'It' items to overshadow her own aesthetic.
I hope my 'pedigree' comment does not offend anybody. I am not saying that people of a certain upbringing should be confined to a certain way of dressing, but a lot of times who you are, your age, your image, and your life experiences invariably set the tone of your wardrobe as they should. Some people do dressing against type well, some don't. I myself am Asian, and I would look absolutely ridiculous if decked out in full-on Victorian getup (think Keira Knightley in The Duchess). But kudos to Eva Green for being able to pull off a beautiful kimono-inspired Dior gown (the one with a red sash, not the fuschia disaster). When I see Ms. Bosworth wearing something that is unexpected of her, I don't really think she looks authentic much.
She looks better with bold lips anyway. The one-pager from the Jan. issue packed more punch. Pale lips on a blonde is a safer but ultimately uninteresting. With bold lips, they could've created another eye-catching cover a la Natalia Vodianova from July '07.
As much as I enjoyed Juno, I am glad that Ellen Page wouldn't be on the cover. Vogue is not Entertainment Weekly, at least not fully.
Two months of 10+ pages only-girl edit of Natalia Vodianova is too much. Did they really put "chic sheath," "smart suit," and "impeccable" all in one sentence?
Raymond Meier I used to love, but he hasn't done anything interesting in the last year or so.
I am very surprised that Georgina Goodman only got one page. Bazaar did a feature on her. She is sort of a guilty pleasure of mine as far as the jet-set/high-society lifestyle is concerned.
