eh I really personally don't know anyone who knows who Karen Mulder is or Daniela Pestova. The others I agree. I still think the most stunning group they have was Tyra, Heidi, Gisele, Adriana, and Alessandra. In the group they have now the only ones in the group IMO that deserves the title of angel are Adriana, and Alessandra and that's really it. The rest IMO haven't earned the title.

And I looooved Helena.....she was unbeleivably gorgeous when she was in the peak of her supermodel days...!! Although i dont' think she has aged very well

I knew too, but I'm saying most of the general public didn't. The main supermodels were Cindy, Christy, Naomi, Tyra, Stephanie and a few others. But Karen and Daniela were not known to the american public like the above mentioned where. ANd if you defin supermodel it's known to the world as a Celebrity model aka someone 8-0% of the population knows by name. The only ones know that are are Heidi, Tyra, and Gisele...Adriana's very close behind but hasn't reached that quite yet, maybe in the net few years but not yet.

WEll i think that not ALL the general public is interested in fashion, i mean not averyone even know who adriana or alessandra are, you have to have a bit of interest in models and fashion to actually know a name

hard to believe but true! we live in our world of fashion and models, but outside TFS there's people who dont even know what Zara is, and they have other things to care about, and thats ALOT of people, we love fashion and models and thats why we think everyone know who Claudia, Naomi, Helena, Cindy etc are, because those were SUPERMODEL and REAL famous, but people who doesnt care just dont know, its like if some science freak asked us who are the TOP sicentist in the world, i mean Cmon everyone has their own bussenes to care about, so i guess GEneral peublic is Too much to say, we should just tell to all the General public intesrested in fashion

They might not remember them, but back in the day those girls were pretty famous. I mean Daniela was on SI covers back then and that was and still is huge deal and a lot of people might remember Karen from when she was a Guess? girl, and back then that was an even bigger deal than VS.

Like aaron said I think people involved in fashion often say well she is very well known when in fact the models aren't. My mother who was in her 20's during that time period and even her friends (I've asked, they were over recently) because we got on the subject of VS models because My mother was commenting on how gorgeous Kathy ireland was, my mother loves fashion as well. But I'd say 1 out of the group knew who any of the angels were outside of Tyra, Helena, and Stephanie. Now they knew Heidi, and 2 knew who Adriana was. (They knew who adriana and ale were both after seeing their image instantly) but as for Daniela and Karen and a few others like Karolina, or Selita etc and marisa they didn't have a clue.
I think like aaron said people that follow fashion think this person is so well known blah blah blah and they aren't to the general populas. Heck when I use to work for Vs most of the customers don't even know who the girls are...and the rare ones that do they know Gisele, Tyra, Heidi, or Adriana...a few that know Ale. But outside of the power 5 in the ninties most people didn't know nor did they care.

no offense, CC, but Adriana is in no way comparable to Heidi, Tyra or Gisele. Heidi and Tyra have both hosted the EMMY Awards, as well as numerous other awards shows. they've been on tv shows and in movies and have been on countless entertainment shows, talk shows, etc. Gisele is the most commercially successful model in the history of the profession and she's had more covers than ANY of the previous supers (including Cindy, Claudia, Naomi, Tyra, Kate, etc) she's in a league of her own and to compare Adriana to any of them is just your fandom talking.

i will agree with you that Karen and Daniela weren't on the same level of fame as Stephanie, Tyra or Helena. i think most of the general public who were at least remotely aware of celebrities in general, would have known those 3. (like EVERYBODY knew Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer, who were really THE 2 biggest names of the time. even my father, who's entirely unaware of anything to do with fashion or celebrities knows their names)

but Karen and Daniela at the time would be comparable in fame and status to Adriana and Alessandra today. the only difference is that they were the LEAST famous of the Angels back then and there were 3 proper Supermodels to rep the brand, whereas today Adriana and Ale (and probably Marisa is even more famous -- in America at least -- than them) are the MOST famous and there aren't any other proper Supermodels to rep the brand (aside from Heidi, which is why she gets so much attention -- but as you mentioned, she's really more of a spokesperson for VS than an actual catalogue model at this point). the problem isn't with Adriana or Ale -- they're both incredibly gorgeous and wonderful and have been tremendous assets to the company, i'm sure.

the thing is, there simply AREN'T ANY Supermodels famous enough at this time to do the job right. they just don't exist. not Daria or Karolina or Natalia or Gemma or Natasha or any of the current Angels.

maybe, just maybe Doutzen and Miranda have a chance. Doutzen has a respected HF career and Miranda has a moviestar boyfriend. only time will tell.

uh...I wasn't saying she is AS famous as Gisele or Tyra or Heidi, but she's after them. As in if there are any angels in the squad right now that are famous it's Heidi, Adriana and maybe Ale. I will be the first to say Adriana's fame right now compared to Heidi is not very close, she's on her way with more tv apperences and multiple interviews and little tours, and maybe in a few years she will be but right now she's not. But as today's models she's the most famous out of the angels, followed by Ale and marisa. I would even say marisa is more famous than Ale.

Like I said I wish VS and the girls agents were not so strict about SI now. Adriana I know for sure, and Ale I believe have both been offered to do Si time and time again, but due to who they are their agent and VS demand that the two get the cover, first time around. Which I wish they didn't do.

About Adriana (althought I don't want this to become an adriana thread) she is finally coming into her own and finally getting her fame in gear being the only vs model besides Gisele to open the show 3 times and back to back, and the only vs model in history to open and close, and she is and continues to be one of VS's pride and joy, and they are trying to make her lead Angel, it's beyond obvious but she's still got a way to go. I've heard rumors that Heidi even wants to leave VS but they feel like Adriana and Ale aren't ready for the 1 and 2 spot, and it's very obvious they are trying to get them ready so Heidi can leave. with all the pushing it's quite obvious that's what they are doing....I love Adriana to death but this year...and it looks like next year Adriana is everywhere for everything, heck her christmas solo commercial was the most played. VS knows what they are doing. It's obvious Adriana, Ale, and marisa are VS's stars and they know the public adores them.

Again I'm not saying that Adriana nor any model of today is anywhere close to the fame of the superstars of the 90's but I'm saying in today's modeling industry she is at the top of modeling world as fame goes in today's rankings. That's all I'm saying....

As for Doutzen I don't know...after watching her performance in the show, and how shy she is, and the fact she has no problem cursing on a highly respected syndicated news show doesn't say much...but only time will tell.

I remember a while back listening to my local morning radio show listing celeb birthdays and them mentioning "former Guess model" Karen Mulder. Now this is definitely a "guy" show with very little interest in models or fashion (they dont even mention or seem to watch the VSFS) but when her name came up they were all "oh yeah I remember her, she was in Sports Illustrated right? she was hot". So its not like those girls are completely uknown, just forgotten.

And I have to say I've seen Marissa mentioned a lot more this year than Ale and Adriana. She has been on tons of shows, the radio show I mention above has talked extesively about her, she tops a lot of lists this year ect. She is definitely the breakout star this year out of all the girls. I can see her all american appeal making her a big star.
