Vogue China March 2010: Du, Lily, Anna, Constance, Karlie, Liu by P. Demarchelier

Even Anna's position (third from left) is similar. really an echo of Vogue US May 2009. I still sort of like it though. It's very timeless, though not innovative at all.

hmm..i suspect it might be a deliberate reference to that cover.. i mean its so blatantly obvious :innocent: and if thats the case then it actually makes it innovative in a way if that makes sense

I love it- even though it might be a deliberate copy of US Vogue, Meisel's cover is kind of bland in comparison. And the girls dont look like they are cramped inside a full elavator

This made me laugh. True in a way but I still liked that cover.

BTW, do they have editorials inside the mag?

it's really annoying if you put this cover next to US VOGUE MAY 2009, it's exactly Identical. what's up w/ that. was this intentional or did they think no one would notice?

P.S. LILY!!! ^_^

I love this! Karlie, Constance, Anna, Lily, Du & Lui! They all look lovely individually but the overall look of the cover is not that great.

This idea is nothing new but it still akes me exciting! Finally Liu Wen on a Vogue China cover!

I appreciate the idea behind, but the execution isn't even up to half of the original expectation.

and the excessive photoshopping is just

This reminds me of all the editorials you get in Korean fashion mags with stories from 6-months-ago-Italian Vogue redone on a shoe string budget. Horrific butchering of concept and disgustingly unoriginal. It's one thing to be inspired by another magazine, and another to do a total soulless copy. Anna J is even used in the same spot in both covers! For a magazine about fashion and art presenting this to readers is embarrassing!

The only thing that makes me smile (in a black-humour sense) is that on Vogue China it's the Chinese girls who are the minority group. Can you imagine US Vogue with 4 Chinese girls and 2 blondes? I think in 50 years we will look back on these covers as very weird.

I totally agree and I have nothing to add.

Except that this isn't the first time they rehashed the top models cover US Vogue did. Difference is that back then, they didn't just straight up copy it and made it blaaaand, they actually added something to it somehow. But then Vogue India came and did the same thing yet again and it became uberbland. That cover pretty much has the same plastic energy as this one. That said, I do like the cast of this new cover, very, very much. I wonder who shot it...Patrick?

I don't take it like that.
I took it like:
on the right side, the last generation Best Top models, and on the left the new generation of models... i guess that's not about Chinese models but more like new generation?!

That's exactly how I saw it as well :)

Also - call me biased - but I find this pull-out much better than the Vogue US cover.

Shot by Demarchelier by the way.

This looks terrible. They've got an amazing line-up of models and yet this is what they have done? It's very US Vogue especially the poses. But I'm glad that Karlie's here. She's the only one who looks great. :)

I don't get it, why are Chinese so infatuated with caucasian models?? Is there not enough Chinese Models??
Don't get me wrong I actually like all the models in this cover but why only two Chinese??
Why not most of them Chinese and a couple Caucasians, are there really that many caucasians in China??
I am probably going to be hate on, but I just feel like Vogue China doesn't support their Chinese Models that much.

I'm just excited because my friend teaching in China is going to get this for me. My first ever Vogue China, I'll take what I can get ;)

I detest the awful backgrounds Vogue China uses for covers like this.

i'm kindda don't like this cover. every models look so tired! lack of aesthetic.

for once, all of the models look beautiful. whenever you have these group shots, there's always one that looks a little bit off, but they all look great.

i also hope VC can be more creative in the future and use less reprints as editorials.
does anyone know if they ever used local photographers to shoot the covers or they only use foreign ones, it is interesting to know. ^_^
