Vogue Italia March 2010 : Freja Beha Erichsen by Steven Meisel

wow. I am just flabbergasted at Freja landing her very FIRST Vogue Italia cover shot by Steven Meisel! I mean her lips are all ugly and similar to that lipstick that the models had in Alexander McQueen's show (the recycle one) but this is amazing for her! When did Freja start appearing in the high fashion circuit? It must've been eons and eons ago. I mean we all know about Meisel's hostility towards Freja but its so great that her patience finally paid off. The shot is great, not amazing but it is Freja on the cover after all. I really hope that Meisel will pay attention to other amazing models out there that should appear on the cover of VI but haven't had the chance to do so. Stop using Agyness and Jamie again and again. I would love to see him do Daria again and some previous muses that he has used before. How about gorgeous faces like Ymre, Patricia, Sigrid or even Georgina!

Since he has shot Freja, I wonder if its possible if he'll shoot Catherine McNeil one day? wishful thinking.

The more I look at it, the uglier it becomes. The lighting makes her nose appear twice its regular size, the light blue shade on her eyes make them seem small and hidden in eyelid folds. And her mouth. Looks like a 10 yo made it up in 1992 or something.

Just hideous. But I guess it was a nice thought, or was it a career killing thought

i have a love/hate for the lipstick :ninja:... otherwise i love the styling, but what really makes the cover mesmerizing is the stare. If you really appreciate it for a moment, seems like her gaze is telling the viewer so many emotions... "I MADE IT"

I really hate it. Sorry, but the makeup is awful and Freja just does nothing for me.

I don't like Freja, but that is a nice cover. Step up from what they had recently. I have to join the now consensus on the lips - they look pretty terrible, but somehow the cover survives.

No B/S here but that is one of the most beautiful covers V.I. have done.
Freja looks untouchably gorgeous and the opulence is oozing.
Kudos to Meisel and Ms. Erichsen. They took their time getting around to this but it was well worth the wait.
Thanks tarsha :flower:

Ah. At last a decent cover from Vogue Italia. Though, like someone already pointed out here, the more I look at it the less I like it. But this is still undeniably a step up from some of their most recept craptacular covers.

The styling overall is nice, and I personally love the D&G dress, but what is with those shoddy lips?(!?) I though the point of lip liner was to define your lips, not to smudge them in this borderline cartoon-y way. Talk about overdoing it. (On the other hand, the eye make-up is stunning!)

Also, I very strongly dislike it when people photoshop colors and contrasts in this sloppy, artificial way. I'm not sure what exactly they were going for with washing out the colors, but if it was "vintage" the effect is too extreme, in this digital format anyway. The washed out yellow text and masthead only add to the impression. It might look different in print or HQ, though.

Personally, this feels pretty but forgettable. I like the classic feel to it, but the execution is once again a little sub-par, and I don't see anything exceptional about this. I wish they had gone for something other than a close-up (especially with this dress), which might've resulted in a truly iconic cover. As it is now, however, it isn't something I'll look back on in five or ten year's time as one of the best covers of the period (even if it may turn out one the best of 2010). I doubt I'll even remember it.

As always, thanks for the preview, tarsha! :flower:

Just jaw-dropping at the model and the cover itself... She finally got it and it's really good for her.

I don't get her appeal but this is a nice cover.

Some you you are over reacting. lol
Its a good beauty shot but those over drawn lips ruin everything.

I'm truly enamored with this cover, even beyond the fact that it's a long-awaited collaboration...it defines "Meisel Classique" for me and is so reminiscent of the VI covers from years ago that I loved. The drastic opposition between this and his earlier two 2010 covers is probably contributing to a dose of extra appreciation, but this was far more than what I expected from Freja as well as Meisel. Almost time to head to the bookstore! :magic:

Hmm I don't get why everyone likes it so much? Ok great that Freja finally got a cover...but am I the only one who thinks it just looks like photoshopped backstage picture?

I hate this cover, but Meisel loves her and that's just amazing!!!

I could not have said it better. It's a beautiful cover. I am not a huge fan of Freja, basically because I am a bit tired of seeing Freja as the waify, androgynous, rockerchic type of model. But this is a total opposite of her stereotype and she carries it very well. This makes me very happy that she was canceled from the Feb cover...it's a rare side of Freja which I really enjoy.

Can't wait to see the couture supplement by the way. I am ready for some Roversi magic

Oh can this be real? Freja on the March cover of VI looking beautiful, and feminine with a stare that kills?

Ok this is me seeing the cover, i kid you not;

The lipstick does not bother me, its very Meisel going over the top with his images, reminds me of those covers he did with Shana in the 90s, the almost caricature of glamour, and beauty, he does it best. The faded colours are stunning, and compliment the image perfectly. Looking forward to get this issue, and seeing her ed.

oh another thing i like about the cover - the text is in italian:heart:
