Vogue Japan September 2020 : Kaia Gerber by Luigi & Iango

without the nudes there is no interest , I hate this kind of fashion shoot !

^^^ They wimped out with the nude shot likely in fear of any backlash from the twitter-prudes.

Still, Kaia’s shoot is gorgeous and she’s becoming a far stronger model than her mum; I can see why they’re already grooming her to become the next great brand. The cast of “The Joy Of All Tomorrow’s” (…shouldn’t it be “Tomorrows”??? Otherwise, “…Tomorrow’s what???) is also gorgeous. Unfortunately it’s completely dragged down by the awful styling. It’s like people are so scared of sexualizing Black models in fear of the twitter-nazis canceling them with accusations of objectification/racism, that Black models are either portrayed as the noble/empowered/regal goddesses— or they’re in these fun/happy/colorful shoots (and always laughing…), swathed in shapeless amoebas that hide their bodies. Fashion was so fearless and ferocious, once upon a time. Now it's a boring wimp.

And this is the September issue…Just 2 short fashions stories :sigh: (buried by the most cluttered layout that they’ve apparently mistaken for art direction).

I try to change mentalities and find my youth who was a fan of pretty nude photos in Playboy, no p*rn*gr*phy or other stupidity, just beautiful and well thought out nude where the models revealed their beauty in a natural way like a painting of the renaissance! supermodels spend hours working their bodies, why do? It is always hidden under clothes or by swimsuits that have no interest ! For me clothes are not a photo subject, there is too much room for clothing these days, I just want to admire the models and their body !

A fashion forum is probably the wrong place for you.

You do know that the purpose of Vogue is to sell clothes right? You also do know that Vogue and Playboy are not in the same category right?

Let's call it as it is, Vogue is just another catalogue with a budget and prestige.

Why go on a forum, more so a thread, that celebrates fashion magazines for what they are? This is not the forum for you if you are looking for naked women. I also suggest that you don't.

May I also suggest for us to comment with circumspect in these topics because people may find these comments uncomfortable.

If we can no longer discuss and censor ourselves because we are uncomfortable, we feel targeted, we are this, is is this ... Where are we going? I'm sorry but for me Playboy is a fashion magazine like any other, ! Denos days there is no universe between fashion and p*rn, everything has disappeared and seeing naked unknowns on erotic sites does not interest me, I am rather naked Playboy way and the big hours of the Pirelli calendar before it becomes nice and politically correct! It is on fashion forums that we find the stars and the great supermodels, not on second zone forums so ...

^I hear you, but those magazines hardly exist nowadays. Not just speaking on this forum, in general. It's a cultural shift. There's not much call for it nowadays.
There is maybe Lui, and Photo in France, both of which we still post on here. US Playboy still has interesting written content but their visuals are dull. French Playboy did an interesting throwback of the magazine's iconic shoots from the Marilyn Monroe nudes to Cindy Crawford/Herb Ritts to the infamous Pamela Anderson ones and a recent set that I didn't know about. But that's far too graphic to be posted on here.

Culture has become prudish and bland, tasteless, ugly and p*rn*gr*ph*c, the fashion of the photos suggested has only increased the p*rn*gr*ph*c spirit and the hypocritical and hidden perversity which people who think of themselves as great philosophers are ashamed and want to buy themselves a virtue of pure beings and believers, in short a culture perverted and unhealthy !

Anna did her thing with this issue. I hope that sooner, she’ll be ready to give up the advantages of her current position and go back to VI! She needs to be the EIC now!

That’s more of a (North) American and British attitude.

European/Eastern European editions of Playboy still has a solid presence. French Playboy is highly-stylized and very much a callback with its vintage-y bygone heydays of the 1960s. It’s all very pretty— and playfully sexy. Playfully sexy is what’s missing with the “The Joy Of All Tomorrows”. These women are gifted with these gorgeous, lean and impossibly long bodies… and they’re hidden behind atrocious styling. L&I are Mert & Marcus copycats anyways, why not copy classic Avedon for Gianni Versace/Helmut Newton for YSL for this shoot??? Instead, it’s this goofy lite-Tim Walker-esque with a catalogue tone. It’s just lacking any balls. Fashion is no longer this confident leader: It’s a timid, conservative follower.

Those EE and continental European editions of Playboy do really tacky covers and edits, that's why I don't regard them. It's basically objectified softcore p*rn, hardly empowering.
I'd rather read Lui than German Playboy.

Playboy is not a fashion magazine. Since its beginning, it has served a different role and has been aimed at a completely different audience. Of course a nude photo taken in artistic way is a nice addition to an editorial but it cant be the main point of the issue. If thats what you are looking for then Vogue is not the right choice.
On a different note I absolutely agree that creatives are too afraid to take any risk. I can only imagine the outrage Carines eds would cause if published nowadays.

I'm sorry but your responses are reminding me so much of this scene from Mean Girls

Stunning editorials! The black models pop against the white with all the colour then Kaia literally brings back Gia in a vintage ed! This might be her best work todate.

I'll just say this, it sucks they wimped out, makes the whole now's the time thing pointless, but I appreciate what they put out at as is. I love the styling and the good photography from luigio and Iango. Its not hard to be both.

As for the comment about playboy up there, I dont see how they're dull. I'd say before there redesign they were, but ever since they got Christopher von Steinbach on board, the photos have been very good.
