Vogue Paris September 2013 : Saskia de Brauw by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

I shouldn't like this, but I do. I'm really glad she decided to put Saskia on the cover.

Here's a bigger cover from Vogue Paris Facebook page.

I am sorry but I don't like this. Saskia came to my attention with her amazing German Vogue cover from November 2012, but I never became decided whether I like her or not. So, this is a con.
I thought Daria's cover was a mess, but in comparison to this one... What I hate the most is the haircut. So late 90s in the worst possible way.

this would have been nice if it werent for whats going on around the knee area

Grunge for me is more about riot grrl than perfect boobs in a bikini top, so I can't say I'm super-impressed by this 'modern' interpretation of a look that was far more interesting the first time around, when people were skewing the clothes to say something about the actual mood of the moment, as opposed to now, where the grunge influence seems to amount to buying a nice, clean version of the clothes seen in pictures on tumblr because 1992 has a totally vintage vibe.

This cover is fabulous. MAJOR improvement from August.

BTW am I the only one who thinks she looks a bit like Kristen McMenamy here?

Sky Ferreira grunge,0? What planet are we on? i like some of her sngs but she certainly has nothing to do with grunge:-) I like the cover... Not perfect, not special enough for September but not bad at all...

Super happy for Saskia, but not feeling it for September.

Hope the text is foil gold irl...it will give a different feel to the cover.

^I'm hoping so too but I doubt it.

I really love the cover and I'm incredibly surprised to see Saskia, as ever I'm super excited to see this in real life.

The contents sound terrific too.

The over look good no very Vogue Paris but look more David Sims style i dont like the photographers take style of others

Mert Alas said "our whole September issue of Vogue Paris" on instagram...hope this means they photographed all the editorials like last year.

^ the article says they photographed "100 essential looks" so I guess that's one big editorial or multiple. At least I hope so.

It's probably one big editorial, like what Carine did for February 2011 with that one huge editorial covering all the collections.

Last night I watched "In Vogue: The Editor's Eye", and they were talking about the grunge shoot Meisel did for December:

carolyn cerf de dudzeele: "I hate Grunge, it was the worst period of my life! Because I hate Grunge!"

Linda Evangelista: "God I hope that never comes back!"

Anna Wintour: "I don't think I had any idea what I was getting into with that story. You know, she [Grace Coddington] may have said grunge to me at that time, I may have blocked it out, but, Grace is quite subtle with her- It's not so much that she ever pitches me an idea, it's usually one word written on a piece of paper or "I'm gonna do this Anna."

Grace Coddington: "Oh she keeps saying 'Oh that grunge moment!' That was such a bad moment.

Anna again: "My grunge days are long gone."

That shoot was revolutionary, and beautiful. But it's dead. The only reason everyone is doing grunge is because of Saint Laurent, because everyone knows Hedi Slimane has a short temper and feels entitled. Because he keeps putting out so many campaigns that they're probably the biggest advertiser. This cover is exquisite, albeit black and white, yet again. Emmanuelle Alt is beyond one note now. The last Vogue Paris I got was the Laetitia Casta issue. I didn't even read it, I flipped through it and it was completely black and white. Why would anyone read that? There's no more controversy in Vogue Paris.

To me, the cover seems like it's trying so hard to exude the grunge feeling.
I applaud Alt for taking the risk of bringing it back to our attention but I don't think it was done in a very good way.
Not that the cover is bad. There's just something that I don't get that's why I'm not into it.
At first I thought it was Jessie J. as well.

Maybe if it was McMenamy instead of Saskia, I would have liked this one. Kidding. :)
Looking forward to the big editorial.

It doesn't even look like grunge.

this is probably Alts best cover but it's really not that eye catching. where is the fun of grunge? i love the androgyny
