W Magazine November 2014 by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

this is so awful. i'm so sick of all these over-manipulated images and the lame efforts to bring back the supermodels, obviously it's not happening, even when you get to collect the best names for the shoot...

they look like characters from the sims. the styling is hideous and lazy, i'm not buying the "90s look" thing. the 90s were glamorous, this looks fake and forced at first sight. although my initial thought was toscani's benetton ads, with the group shots, bright colors and white background... but the energy is missing.

It does look like they're trying to evoke a sort of 90s/Avedon/supermodels vibe but the photoshop has made it look so flat and two-dimensional. Only the front cover works for me (putting Daria's and Kate's height difference aside).

The abysmal attempt to photoshop them together is really upsetting me.

Kate Dara and the boy were shot together.
Lara and Raquel were shot together.
Saskia was shot on her own.
Maria-Carla's Missing leg makes me think she was show alone.
Boy 2 and Suvi were shot together.
Karmen and Riley were shot together.
Anna was shot alone (And is wearing the most clothes).

Only here for Riley...Michael Thompson does/did this ish better, and 12 years ago no less. I might be somewhat more impressed by the whole affair if it wasn't obvious this was shot on the same budget as the September snooze-fest of a centre piece and was actually somewhat cohesive casting-wise.

I'm not getting why they chose to show the models in various states of undress. This is a NOVEMBER cover, ya know the month prior to DECEMBER.

And then you have Anna classin up the joint as the only sane, covered up and remotely seasonly-appropriate attired model out of this mess of an unecessary fold out cover. Anna could've carried this cover on her own.

I really can't believe how I took Michael Thompson for granted!!! I really miss what he used to contribute to his magazine when I see what they're doing with it now.:cry:

I love the first cover the most, and though the photoshop and styling is ridiculous, the guys are what bothers the most. Useless additions.

The boys are necessary for any gay W buyers who don't care at all about female models, are not modelizers (do we still name them like this ?) ...

I am so glad to read these posts in the latest pages...

Today, you just need to line some big names on a fold-out cover to sell ... Isn't it ?
Everybody is doing it !

Placebo for the youth who actually didn't live the Supermodels era, ie the 1990s.

riley who?

Daria, Kate, Suvi, Karmen look sensational. As does Mariacarla (though where is her left leg?) Saskia looks painfully photoshopped and Anna is just randomly sucking in her cheeks on the far right. It's very vibrant and will certainly be eye-catching on the newsstands.

At first glance I was excited but the execution of it is so bad, yes it ruins it for me to know and see that all of it is some bad copy-paste work and that they were not all together for the picture.

I think Wow! was the first thought that came to me when I saw the cover.
It is gorgeous! I adore the 90's feeling in it. There are only two flaws with with it. Anna Ewers facial expression. She is one of my favourite models and is such a baby Brigitte Bardot/Claudia Schiffer to me. But I feel they could have used a better picture of her. But I think the posing and styling with/on her is great. The title Born Beautiful is silly to me. I can't wait to see more pics.

Best W cover in a while, they should have included an Asian model though :ninja:

W uploaded a bunch of hq covers to their website and it really makes you realize how dreadful this cover is. Can't they try to bring back this aspect of the 90s??

^while I like the 90s W covers.. Looking at them together, they all look like they were taken from the same fashion editorial. Bright dress, soft focus, piercing eye color, repeat. In fact put together, they would make an awesome editorial. The make up was flawless though. I'm guessing Kevin Aucoin? Just not much variety.

yeah, i agree. i actually find those 90s covers quite dull. the only thing i prefer is the lack of photoshop.

I'm pretty sure Karmen's head was cut and pasted too because her hair near Riley's head loo really strange
