What Magazines Have You Bought/Received Recently?

WOW. Even I can admit that Stam looks spectacular on that cover! The best she's ever looked! ^_^

What is this month's UK vogue like?

just bought it today:

even though i still don't like the cover, it features some beautiful new ads from the summer 05 campains (dolce&gabbana, gucci, lv, chloé, etc.)....
editorials include a take on lulu guinness, and then the cindy crawford photoshoot was interesting too.
there's a catwalk special as well, which i love....

overall, i think it's worth buying and better than other editions this month (e.g. german vogue)

Its funny that to us, these models are some of the most famous at the moment, yet they call them relatively unknown. But Vogue is supposed to be a fashion magazine, by using celebrities is appealing more to the masses than people who are interested in fashion.

This is the best Feb. cover that I have seen (but Bazaar's subscriber cover is pretty sexy too). US Elle sure loves Uma. This is her 5th or 6th cover. She is the best thing about this magazine though. The editorials are very plain. Ana Beatriz Barros does her usual thing. One ed is on uber-colorful clothing; the ed following it has everything in black-and-white. The contrast isn't particularly interesting. The themes they picked just aren't relevant this season. But it does show a good collection of ads: Prada (so unique, it translated from the runway very well), Gucci (beautifully lit, soft p*rn poses. You see the male mod's armpit hair, and Natasha Poly's not wearing underpants), Michael Kors (Erin Wasson reprises her role as a globe-trotting diva who temporarily lost her prozac. She looks like Michelle Buswell. Don't know why Kors is so into her. He always uses Gisele, Karolina, or Carmen to open his shows), MaxMara (Craig McDean's lighting is amazing), Roberto Cavalli (Kate looks like herself in the Rimmel ads), Armani Collections (Rianne), Missoni (Daria, absolutely terrible, a waste of a fantastic collection), Versace (Madonna, when will it be all over for her?), Alessandro Dell Acqua (Maria Carla Boscono, glad he's advertising again), Bottega Veneta (best accessories), Louis Vuitton (the patrician Uma Thurman), etc.

Feb. US Vanity Fair, Star Wars special.

I wonder how Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman think when they receive George Lucas's direction. That man clearly can't direct non-robots. Both Christensen and Portman are capable of giving great performances (Shattered Glass, Garden State, Closer), but Star Wars is def. a career low for both. Notable ad: Karen Elson for Giorgio Armani--not too bad.

thanks for this link....it's not easy to read the hard facts sometimes.....no more models in the foreseeable future, eh?? i will probably finally give up arguing about it - as much as i might dislike celebs on the cover - there's really nothing one can do about it, only SALES rule these days.....i just wonder for how long they gonna be able to keep this up until they return to more sophisticated covers again....i give it another 2-5 years. the celebrity hype is now at it's peak, with EVERY mag competing for them, it can only go downhill from here, can't it???
