This is their "Woman of the Year" issue honoring a variety of entertainers (Kate Winslet, Alicia Keys, Destiny's Child), designers (Carolina Herrera), and activists.

I find myself liking Glamour's written content more than its editorial styles. Got some nice tips on party-throwing for Xmas. Emma Hemmings is in the editorial, wearing mostly stuff from AW04. The styling is a little lazy, methinks. At this time of the year, I expect to see some resort stuff and even bits & pieces from the spring collection.

Angela Lindvall wearing Prada by Patrick Demarchelier for UK Vogue. So great to see my fave mod on my fave 'zine, and she looks posh & elegant in a sea of brown & gold in the editorial "Girl You'll Be A Woman Soon." Haute!
Lily Cole's couture ed (think: a red-haired Alice accompanied by a pair of young twins wandering in a mysterious forest) is equally compelling, and better than Natalia's gig in US Vogue.
Lauren Bailey's pictures of Rianne in "No Smoke without Fire" is the only disappointment.

That sounds great!

Who is the photographer, may I ask?

Angela's also in Dec UK Vogue, photographed by Regan Cameron. That's right, in both Nov & Dec UK Vogue, plus she's shooting the Calvin Klein campaign with Steven Meisel for SS05. Angela wants to work hard before she goes into labor and disappears for a while. ;)

Smashing pictures of Alessandra Ambrosio (my favorite VS girl) on Arena:

.........wow

Don't be fooled by the cold cover (pale skin and crimson lips don't look good on small-eyed woman), December Vogue is editorially strong (even more so than September) and a great issue:

"Ticket to Paradise" with a very tanned Daria and a male model frolicking on an island, photographed by Patrick Demarchelier. Daria looks too wooden to be enjoying a luxurious vacation, but all is forgiven because of the excellent selection of resort dresses--Chloe (ruched brown dress with sequin halter), Vera Wang (above-ankle blue dress Jennifer Connelly wore), beautiful stuff.

Vogue's resident accessories photographer Raymond Meier shoots a glowy Polina K (one of the girls who get better w/ experience, both on the runway and in print) and this season's It bags & shoes, including that to-die-for Balenciaga bag in gold. In addition, even though accessories take the center stage, the clothes Polina wears are lovely. From Julia Stegner to Caroline Trentini to Polina K, Raymond Meier's work for Vogue this year is note perfect.

Finally, Steven Meisel shoots one of fall campaign's most popular faces Raquel Zimmermann (who had an accessories ed last month as well, but not in full-page format) in a monk-haircut with spring's most amazing pleated gowns--Lanvin, Lanvin, Lanvin--against a tasteful brown background. Beautiful movement of chiffon. This is your typical IT Vogue fare (the funky hair) glossed up.

Notable ads: Lily Cole for Chanel resort, Reiley for Dior resort, Sarah Jessica Parker for Gap (Hate her but Gap's doing something right design-wise. I already bought two bags from them and have my eyes on the sequin scarf) and a very sun-burned Gwyneth in a jewelry ad.

The only weak link of this issue (aside from the cold cover) is the coverage on European spring collections. I've never been particularly impressed with Vogue's collection coverage but, given that we've just had the most splendid season in Paris, this is quite disappointing. They tried to make it up with articles on smaller, US-based designers (Jovovich-Hawk and Daryl K for example), but it didn't quite work because they used Cinthia Dinkers [sp] as the model, who looks like a depressed Mischa Barton.

Verdict: Definitely a great issue. It would've reached-collector status had Vogue sagged the cover and put the other actress in "The Aviator" Kate Beckinsale on the cover. The color of the cover is almost identical to Blanchett's UK Vogue Feb cover and more "Sky Captain" than "Aviator."

Catherine Zeta Jones on December US Bazaar:

11.09.04Bazaar.jpg

Catherine Zeta-Jones in a diamond-encrusted Dolce & Gabbana gown and strangely flat hair for December Bazaar's Best Dressed Issue.

Don't believe the hype. :ninja:
Bazaar wanted to up its celeb quotients but gave no thoughts as to which celeb's *** they wanted to kiss. They selected just about every non-worst dressed celebrity, using micro-sized pictures. And they included Chloe Sevingy. What a joke. She was cool 5 years ago. InStyle and Us Weekly can do better than this. In fact, they have!

Editorials:

Carmen Kass photographed by Karl Largerfeld, lounging around a European mansion in tasteful clothes. A real surprise to see Carmen. She is not necessarily in her top form and her blonde hair is iron-flat as before, but maybe it is a good thing that she is taking fashion more seriously (even doing runways!) now that she realizes this is her only career.

But it goes down from there.

The couture ed is more of a "scrapbook" consisting of runway and backstage photos than a real editorial with independent styling. Jessica Stam's ed with Thomas Shenk is appalling; Caroline Winberg's resort ed looks so plain.

The morale at Bazaar must be very low. There is not enough glits for a Christmas issue and Bazaar appears to be quite directionless. The only good thing is their stubborn thing with 'age' and shape, where they try to find the best LBD (little black dress) for women from 20-70. Skip the issue unless you are a collector of Carmen's work.

what the heck is going on over there??? remember when Bazaar was the creme-de-la-creme of fashion mags...now i wouldn't use it to line my cat's litter box!

i've cancelled my subscription already...I switched to W.

Daria looks like a deer on the cover of W, but the editorial with Michael Thompson inside is actually quite good and demonstrates her star power. She comfortably lounges around the studio, and the clothes she wears happen to be the hottest from spring: Chloe, Balenciaga, and those Marc Jacob sequin Mary Janes (which I personally dislike). Daria not only managed to make the clothes look desireable, she also gave them a very personal touch. If you told me these garments came straight from her closet in stead of some expensive Paris labels, I would believe that. Heck, she even looks good slouching in them!

Natalia Vodianova is dolled up like Jodie Foster in "Taxi Driver" in the Glen Lunchford editorial (pic above). Not as good as their collaboration in Bazaar back in July, but the Daria editorial alone makes the issue a worthy purchase.

On the other hand, Allure scraps the bottom of the barral with Claire Danes on the cover, who is quoted saying "He is as good as the last sausage I had, even though that sounds vaguely sexual" about her new beau Billy Crudup. Missy Rayder gets the token fashion ed, trying to vamp up the season's loudest accessories with a lot of skin.

Recent purchases:

d1_1_b.JPG

UK Glamour with Kate Beckinsale. Implants or not, Ms. Beckinsale has a classically beautiful face that is meant for Vogue & Bazaar, and yet she is stuck with Glamour which does not even take full advantage of her radiance and obscures her face with wind-blown hair.

German Vogue October, the 25-yr anniversary. There are 25 cover shoots, all of which are featured inside, including my favorites Angela Lindvall and Jacquetta Wheeler. But in terms of content, German Vogue is nothing to write home about, but I do like its extensive home decor/architecture section. Spanish Vogue is superior in terms of creative content. Erin Wasson in palm-tree Gucci dress is on the November cover. Gisele Bundchen on December cover--I want to get that one!

60_1.JPG

UK Vogue's Christmas issue is underwhelming. Sienna Miller on the cover wearing Rochas, looking like a very bored North Pole princess. Inside: UK Vogue's favorite English roses Jacquetta Wheeler, Lily Cole, Erin O'Connor and Sophie Dahl engage in a length fantasy spread that celebrates otherworldly gowns and accessories. Big production, little impact. Angela Lindvall and Jessica Miller are wasted in their respective editorials.

a4_1.JPG

Kate Moss wearing Nike on November Paris Vogue. Bad cover (and a strange, untimely theme), but there are two star editorials: Daria Werbowy in couture in a location shoot by Bruce Webber is amazing. I wish Webber's work would appear in women's fashion magazines more often. The way he handles light and a happy spirit puts even Mario Testino to shame. Kate Moss's editorial is good; they just picked a bad picture for the cover. Also featured but rather listless: Elizabeth Hurley & Isabeli Fontana.

Jan04.jpg

This one I have yet to get... Gwyneth Paltrow on Interview, looking like Slyvia Plath. I however did buy the UK publication Red with her on the cover. It used unpublished pictures from Entertainment Weekly from an earlier shoot.

18_1_b.JPG

I didn't buy this one.... Mischa Barton wearing YSL on cover of Movieline, touting a ghostly complexion a la Barton in "The Sixth Sense" years ago (she played that girl peeking from under the bed). It's not a good cover and looks like leftover material from last year, judging from the YSL & Prada gown she wears inside.

UK Cosmo Xmas issue should arrive in a matter of days... They normally have a knockout party issue. This year it is esp. needed so since most American magazines have traded cocktail dresses/gowns in exchange for more resort coverage, and UK Vogue really missed the boat this time.

I wanna see the Daria editorial in couture!
