Did you know that Julia is on the front of German Elle and they are proclaiming her as the being bigger than the 90s supermodel Claudia Schiffer - wow!

Can you scan some of the the Julia pix in? I'd just to see them again!

How are you? Man, havent written to you for so long, but anywayz, how are you, love? Everything's just ok here i guess... But well... that doesn't stop me from buying magazines! Yes, Nippon (Japanese) Vogue is REALLY expensive in non-asian countries, coz i buy it at $HKD70 ($AUD14) and in Australia they sell it at $AUD22.50 or so. But man, i must admit, the paper is so glossy! Go, Japanese people and the content it definitely not bad even though i can't read japanese. Great ads and always bringing me to the hot top hit of the hits from the top designers! (I feel so "in" B) )

It's exciting that they are proclaiming Julia as bigger than Claudia Schiffer, i must admit there's something in Julia's look that makes her unique and unforgetable. Does Julia have pics inside?

Preview of April 2005 W:

edit #1: paolo roversi shoots gemma, stam, JP, Vlada & Iselin. Excellent edit, so arty with the dark-toned pics. somewhat Victorian/Pre-Raphaelite style edit but the super-luxe gowns & couture level clothes are also totally modern especially in colors. lori goldstein's styling also excellent, stam & gemma are particularly key here.
some will find these pics too dark & even say the girls & clothes are somewhat hidden in the gloom but thats why this is a particularly good photo edit- its actually all about atmosphere & aesthetic impact of the overall image, even if its a bit gloomy in the lighting. last month's 2 mert/marcus W edits, on kate moss & stam, were better & sexier than this, but if not for that impossibly high standard, I would actually say that roversi may be the single best fashion photographer shooting today.
this edit shows W's committment to an artful, edgy past/present aesthetic style, and thats why W is americas best fashion magazine. Vogue's straight-ahead lighting & style would never permit something this edgy. [when liebowitz shot the period costumes with gisele & others at the metropolitan it was a mummified disaster]-
roversi & goldstein make these challenging girls, clothes & atmosphere work all the way. rating 8.5 of 10.

edit #2: natalia shot by michael thompson. its all swimwear & this is a surprisngly sexy natalia swim shoot. she wouldnt be my first choice for a swim edit [louise winberg marija or julia would be] but actually nati totally pulls this off & a few of these bikini pics are among her sexiest images to date. alex white styled.
even though natalia was presented as the #1 girl in vanity fair's new model/bikini issue, she actually looks far better in these swim pics. also natalia looks much fuller here, and thats a relief. as you may recall, just after lucas was born she starved herself to get back to model weight in a few weeks & she was pretty skeletal there for a while. not here shes actually curvy & I am dutifully impressed with her swimsuit body. great work by natalia, thompson & alex white. rating 9 out of 10.

edit # 3. lindsay lohan shot by thompson. this story is actually more important for robert haskell's revealing interview with LLo, which I will read & summarize later.
so the pics are actually less importnat here than the text. still the pics are good, thompson is a superb celeb photographer [think of his kate hudson W story a couple of years ago] but also not the full fashion-sexy-cupcake edit I had hoped to see here. still she is sucking her thumb in 1 pic. theres a sweetly sexy bare-back/CK briefs shot. and the cover is excellent, I think even LLo-haters have to agree she looks great on the cover in verasace & the hair & makeup are great too. Im glad W put LLo on the cover & Im just hoping we'll see more sexy/fashionj edits with LLo in many otehrs mags soon. I think we will. rating 6.5 of 10 for the photos. the story may raise that rating once I read it.


edit #4. guinevere shot by mcdean. some people will like this edit the most in the mag. its the most straight forward, looks a lot like bazaar actually. excellent clothes style by alex white, some snappy day & evening looks. guin looks good but not as hot as in those eres ads or even the occasional bazaar edit that she shone in.
mcdean did a good job but its not nearly as creative as his superb gemma/noorda shoot in march w. as I say everyone did well, and some readers will like this story the best in the mag, but I expect even better than this from mcdean, guin & white. natalia's story is far better & roversi's pictures are in a different universe from these near-reportage mcdean pics. rating 7 of 10.

thats just the main edits theres a ton more to read & enjoy in this W but from what Ive seen so far this april issue is an obvious THUMBS UP. Buy It!!

NYLON MARCH 2005

COVER: Evan Rachel Wood. this is some 17 year old actress? the pics are ok, not too hot. I expect more of a Nylon coverstar & edit. Jason Nocito shot this. [he also shot those awful bijou phillips pics a few months back]. anyway I dont know rachel but she's shot here like 'the sloppy' chloe sevigny. really lazy un-style images she looks badly & the photographer is a lot worse than that. terrible. 2 of 10.

BEST EDIT: Richard Kern shoots anna & michelle, very sexed up high school/prep looks. Incredible edit, one of the hottest in amy american mag this year.
theres an upskirt panty shot thats so hot, and naughtily daring Kern is a famous fine art photog and he's the very best & sexiest that Nylon employs. rating 10 out of 10.

another great edit: Valerie Avdeyera shot by viki forshee in some bermuda/cali rainbow brights. awesome retro futurism here, very 50s-60s-2005. superbb model & pics. rating 9 of 10.

another edit: asia argento by stacey mark. alot of bedroom stuff. OK 5 of 10.

as always Nylons strength is the new edgy models & the little arty details scattered thruout ish so when I read full mag I'll have comments on that.
for the Kern & Forshee edits alone this mag is a must-buy. THUMBS UP

About Magazines...(american vs british)

Ok i don't want to sound like i know everything, but since i'm ADDICTED to fashion i read or have read EVERY MAGAZINE out there. I live in Greece and i don't enjoy at all Greek mags, except of course for Vogue Hellas. So i've spent the last years (i'm 21, so 8 years) reading every magazine. I'm not British, French, Italian or American, but i must say, that American Vogue IS THE BIBLE. American mags are the best, then i like british and then French (though i don't like french mags very much except for, once again, Vogue France).
I prefer VOGUE (Because IT'S VOGUE), Elle (Fashion), Marie-Claire(Fashion), Glamour(Celebs), W(Fashion), I-D(models), Allure (Loads Of Beauty).

but i still dont agree with their ongoing policy of putting actress after actress on the cover......hm, i'm better not going there again now.....

But I go to the library and take there US Vogue once in a month, they came with great delay so I'll read January issue in May or June probably. That's very upsetting!!! But I've subscribed to US Vogue this year, it's Internet subscribtion and now I'm waiting for my first issue! Oh, I dream of POP, Nylon, Numero, Tank etc. but can't afford them. Want to live somewhere else, not in Russia, though I love my country.

Poor thing! I never knew Russians only get Russian Vogue! But i do like Russian Vogue too, esp. that "special" they did on Eugenia! Shame i can't read Russian and they don't sell Russian Vogue here! So i guess in a way, delerith, u r lucky!
