What to wear to someone else's wedding

^the two dresses i like are the first two i posted.
i ordered the black dress in light blue. i´m not sure if it flatters me. i havent received it yet.
is blue okay for wedding?

i ordered the black one in green and they sent me the wrong size. :(

What do you guys wear for weddings in the winter or fall? Leather jackets over the dress are not apropriated, then what else to get warm during cold days?

I actually bought a dress that is quite similar to the black one at H&M 2 weeks ago! except it is blue and the front is a bit longer. but it's probably to late for you...

it is too late for the wedding, but not too late to get a new lovely dress
can you post a picture of it? i can´t find it on the H&M homepage.

^^you could also try a blazer... depending on the cut and the thickness of material, that could work

My brother is getting married Labor Day weekend, and I'm starting to think about what to wear. I still have the dress from his last wedding , which I have worn since, but barely.

This time, I plan to get something I will actually wear again, that will be useful in my wardrobe--which means separates.

I'm starting with the top ... and I've noticed several pretty white blouses, including some eyelet ones.

So this is my question ... I know perfectly well not to wear a white dress to a wedding. I have seen this done, and it is truly horrible. But what about black and white, like a white eyelet blouse with a black pencil skirt? Or white with a color?

It will be a small wedding with I think 40 people, and I think there should be no chance that anyone would think I'm competing with the bride.

how about asking him what they want to serve for food at the wedding first? at the rehearsal dinner i went to last month we were served messy mexican food. i saw one guest that slopped mole sauce all over her dress.

i dont wear white if i think there's a chance i'm going to be eating messy food.

i'm a big fan of eyelet blouses! how about pairing one with a long black "mermaid" skirt? *i have one by jean paul gaultier...

^ Thanks, lucy. I got hoisin sauce on my white T today while making lunch, so I know what you mean ...

Mermaid sounds good ... I used to have a godet skirt I really loved.

Great suggestions everyone! :flower:
And what about jewelry/accessories? I'm talking about bracelets and necklaces.
And a wrist watch, is it adequate?

^I think it really depends on what type of wedding it is, if it's okay to wear a watch or not. However, if you have a really nice/luxury watch it could totally work. My mom has this gorgeous one that she's worn to a few weddings and it looked great because the watch was so elegant. As for jewelry, I tend to favor simpler pieces but it's a matter of what sort of outfit you have in mind and what your personal preference is.

i need help peeps. i bought this dress for a wedding and i don't have a clue what kind of shoes to wear with it or accessories for that matter. zara styling is cool, but i can't walk in heels with such a thin heel.

thanks in advance!

I think you could easily pair that dress with some wedges if you're more comfortable in something like that.

As far as jewelry/accessories, maybe go for a bold cuff, or a cool cocktail ring.
It's probably safer to go with no necklace, but it could be fun to wear a chunky necklace that would just fall along the neckline of the dress
hair up would be nice

good luck!

*actually looking at the back again i would say skip the necklace for sure. better to leave that line uninterrupted in the back, and again if you wear your hair up it will be easier to show off the back

thank you so much! :flower:
i was thinking of getting a chunky necklace, but i think it would be all tad too much. maybe a good old cuff should do it ( was thinking about old gold-ish one?). the wedges...do you think more in line of a wedge sandal or "closed" shoe (cus i have cute black wedges, but they're "hiding toes" :D).

i have very short hair, so the "hair up" shouldn't be a problem. oh and one more thing, you don't think the dress looks cheap as in trashy? it's not (too) short, but it always bugs me..

No, not trashy at all!

for the shoe, I think you could do either... I would try the dress on with the wedges you have and see how it looks. Sandals would definitely make it more summery though.

ezzine actually posted a picture in the 'what are you wearing today' thread of her in that same dress.
you can check out how she styled it for inspiration too ^_^
oh wow. thanks. i love her styling :smile:wub:smile:, but those heels would probably be the death of me. i have lagoon blue wedge sandals (with strings crossing) from last year, but i'm afraid they're too bright for the dress? i'm afraid that the black ones would be too dark on the other hand. def have to try it on as soon as i get home. thank you so much for the help!

i don´t think it´s too short. at least not on the model. is it a lot shorter on you?

it's the exact same length on me too (and i'm nowhere near the model, guess we're the same height?), bit above the knees. i'm just always paranoid when it comes to short (?) dresses and afraid it could come off as tacky.
