Inaya beat me to it :flower:, both are 100% legit. I got myself the contact straight from those store's mailing list.

luckyme, that dress is really lovely. I like it paired with those guidi boots

aw10 knit polo shirt with attached scarf/collar that can be detached and turn the shirt into a henley. Quality is outstanding. + already posted stuff.

wire...^^^
maybe part of the reason it works for you is that you seem to be doing all yohji ...
all the time...head to toe...

i can see how the silhouette might be difficult if you did a different shoe, for example...
i doubt it would be as good...

i do love seeing it on someone though...

i find the womenswear is actually better if i mix it with other stuff...
it becomes a bit more user friendly...
otherwise it can be a bit difficult for every day...
:p

runner---
is it possible to explain...
is seibu a big store and then YY is a boutique within the store?
it looks really massive and i have been wondering about this...

thanks!
:flower:

*yes... my fave...
:heart::heart::heart:

yes it's like that.
seibu is what japanese call 'department store'.
isetan (since you know isetan well) is typically one of those department stores such as daimaru, mitsukoshi, matsuya, etc. but seibu especially has been a good partner with YY.
and YY's are there as a corner store, boutique, or whatever, just like this below.

i see...
thank you...

that is what i thought...
as you say, i am only really familiar with Isetan...

it reminds me of galleries lafayette in paris where the individual designer boutiques are separated...

in the US most department stores just hang a designer's collection in one area, but it is not any different than the rest of the store...

for example---
Jil Sander sent her collection to Barney's with special hangers that made the clothes hang really beautifully and stand out from the rest of the sales floor...
but then the Barney's people switched all the hangers to Barney's black hangers so they would be uniform and all alike...

while i understand why they would choose to do this, i think i prefer it when the designer has some input regarding the way their merchandise is presented...

that YY shop looks really lovely and reminds me of the very first time i purchased a piece of YY in Paris...
it was many many years ago, but the consistency of the branding is still there, which is somehow reassuring...

thank you very much for the pic...

you are welcome softgrey
they are actually massive as a container of everything, from hermes to muji.
there is some kind of department store syntax working in them. generally food stuff in basements, cosmetics on the ground floor, restaurants on the top floor, etc.
"a beauty looking back" isetan installation took place on the ground floor where the traffic is most heavy because it's a special campaign. but YY has its regular store on another floor where you can shop somewhat quietly.

yes barneys is like what you described, over here too. even altieri was not allowed to present his products differently back then. but it was interesting that only YY and CdG went their own way although they were not particularly separated and that they had their own resident sales assistants on the floor ( YY is not any more in barneys japan).
and you saw for example someone from CdG and in all homme plus pieces selling gucci when all barneys staff members were busy.

^^^i like that painting...
thanks---

yes, i guess all department stores worldwide are somewhat similar...
though we don't have the big food halls in the basements here in the US...
*they put cooking stuff and kitchen stuff in the basements usually...
:chef:

runner---if you knew someone who was visiting tokyo this fall, what are the top three department stores you would say they should visit?
...

*i am rather surprised to hear that barney's does not carry YY in tokyo...
they used to have such a good partnership...
that's just ridiculous!...barneys is just not what it used to be...
very disappointing...
:ermm:...

from my shopping trip to barneys...
a bit blurry, but....you get the drift...

i liked the first one very much, and i would have gotten the second one, but they didn't have my size...

wearing yohji sneakers from SS 13...
^_^
*my friend said they look like mice, which just makes me love them even more...

^I like the second one on you, the neckline is so good, especially with the short hair. i have only seen the buy at IF so far, and I didn't love it...the pieces looked sort of dumpy to me, although they would probably work well on someone of greater stature...

are you going to tokyo?! :woot:

I had a bout of yohji insomnia the other night, and I was playing with some pieces in my closet...I finally discovered that the super long sleeves look so much better on my if I roll the sh*t out of them. kind of duh moment, but i was so happy.

thanks laika...
i confess, the neckline really sold me on that top...
it's so graphic...it really 'pops'...
plus the body is very flattering and comfortable, simultaneously...

sounds like a fun time you had playing dress up!!!
let's call it an 'AHA!' moment...
;)

*tokyo- here i come...
:D

there is a little boutique i found that buys exactly the yohji pieces i swoon over and find hard to resist. everything down to the fabric choices as well as things you dont see because they are buried under layers in runway shots...

a few samples

I guess that white top is this one? The hood makes it for me.
I really like it in the red.
The Yohji red is so good and distinctive, and almost universally flattering, I would think.
But it seems like no one bought it....

yup, thats it for sure. wait until you see the white in person...its crisp and you can really see the linen texture. as much as i love [yohji] red, it was probably shied away from because its a bit trickier to sell at least in the US.

crisp??
it looks like a wet noodle hanging there like that...
...

i have to say that a lot of the drapey stuff has very little 'hanger appeal'...
when i tried on the two tops above, i was really sure i would LOVE the first one and i almost didn't even try the second one because it just seemed like it would be too sexy and maybe a bit restrictive...

and then it turned out to be the total opposite...
the second one just looked so much better on the body than on the hanger...
and it's hard to tell, even if you really know yohji and really know fashion and really know avant garde designs, etc...

you really just have to try some of it on...
especially the drapey, twisty stuff...

laika- i like the red as well...
i have no yohji red as of yet...been waiting for the right thing to come along...
still waiting...
:p
