Your personal fashion rules

Here are the rules my grandma gave me -- never where less that four inch heels (she stood in these at the blackboard all day as a lower school teacher), never wear logos (except LV) she gave me the pochette for sweet sixteen, never wear diamonds that aren't real, never buy quality over quantity, always have a manicure

Thanks, we are sooooo close. We love each other very much and pick out each others clothes and go shopping together.

Oops, I meant to say never buy quantity over quality. It's better to have one nice pair of shoes then ten cheaps ones.

wow, everyone has lots of great points...here are soem of my personal rules:
-Slimming item is better than trendy item
-No fake designer stuff
-Never wear horizontal stripes
-No flats
-No tube tops
-No floor lenght skirts or ultra short skirts
-Few accessories
-No floral patterned pants
-No beige near my face, washes me out
-When in doubt, i'll wear black.

Everything I read is so interesting!

Personally, I never have set rules... I prefer to experiment a bit

I find that when I travel I come up with some cool looks... Otherwise..

For work- I prefer to wear black, that way I can concentrate on colors when I work

For evening, I love to dress up, throw on a skirt, a dress, wear something that just makes me feel absolutely wonderful, which is why I buy these clothes

For relaxing days... oh comfort, so I love lounging in pj's and such..

Here are my personal fashion guidelines:

- No pants that are slimmer than bootcut
- ABSOLUTELY NO LEGGINGS!!!
- Cropped trousers are also a no for me, I'm too short.
- No chunky heeled shoes
- No below-the-knee skirts for me, again it makes me look too short.
- No miniature handbags for an 'everyday' outfit
- No more than one piece of denim at a time.
- No visible thongs, nor VPL
- If I wear earrings they must be very subtle (I have a small face).
- Jeans are my #1 wardrobe staple :innocent:
- I never wear beige close to my face
- Jeans must have backpockets and they must sit low on the butt and not be too small.
- No high-waisted pants
- I try to avoid synthetic materials
- Coats must be tailored and slim, and not longer than knee-length

That's all I can think of for now, I probably have more though.

-i could never wear denim shirts....i dont know. theyre just not my style.
-silk shirts are also no no
-cardigans
-checkered pants wish suspenders

these are the ones i can think of right now

ummmmm
O.K., some of my guidelines
1. colors should be good together
2. clothes should be flattering and have edgy look
3. it has to be fitted, because I'm 5 9 and a half and slim.
4. my hair should be straight but volumous. (did i spell that right? Correct me then)
5. i like when i should mix the fabrics. like some reddish color courdoroy with my faded black jeans that are stretchy and soft.

It's voluminous. :flower:

--my #1 rule is Don't adhere to the rules too religiously. I mean, WHY does your belt HAVE to match your shoes? WHY can't you wear certain colours just because of the date on the calendar? Try to experiment without preconcieved notions.

--when you do experiment, do it without timidity. CONFIDENCE is best accessory: it goes with everything and magically "pulls together" many ensembles.

--I do agree with everyone on the denim issue...one piece at a time. Denim beautifully compliments so many other fabrics, yet really does nothing for more denim. and overalls....ick!

--CONSISTENCY is a good thing...but theres a fine line between that and PREDICTABILITY, which, in matters of style, is a bad thing.

--dont take your wardrobe too seriously...be tongue-in-chic...or be ironic...dress with wit.

--Don't shop for an occasion. ("I need something to wear to my 30th b-day party, the opening night, Bud and Betty's wedding, or whatever...") you'll end up wearing what you bought ONCE.

--very very few items are truly worth their original retail price. avoid paying that price, at all costs. (hhhmmm...no pun intended, but I'm not sure if that really was a pun. anyway....)

--I can't stand empty belt loops. If your trousers have belt loops, wear a belt. even if its a plain navy leather belt on plain navy trousers...it still punctuates your outfit...it says "I am completely dressed"

--and remember: rules are for beginners...amateurs. have faith in your own style. You're better than the rules.

thats my 2 cents. :flower:

Interested what (if any) fashion rules you all adhere to. Good or bad, rational or irrational, practical or impractical. do Tell all.

Some of mine are:-

B) basing an outfit or black or navy as a starting point
 only wearing heels with a skirt (except if I can wear bare legs - which is practically never)
:( not wearing beige near my face (i look washed out)
:flower: not wearing too 'tight' on both top and bottom half
 tone on tone colours - no more than two primary colours at one time

Trying to get out of some of these but old habits die hard sometimes!

I wish i was more like you - I must be too uptight!!!
