Your style evolution

comfy, comfy, comfy --> wanna be goth, still comfy --> teenage trendy --> classic chic --> bright and whimsy --> different --> simple chic

But, I tend to be schizo usually now.... comfy comfy was like up to 6th grade

my style hasn't evolved much, went from nerdy looking to a hip hop phase then back to nerdy looking, just a bit more slick about it heh.

tutus and swimsuits combined..not just a swimsuit..that is pushing it!:woot:
although i did wear a swimsuit to my prom. but then again i went to hippie art school  ...i remember my first day of school someone was wearing a full wedding dress with a veil and half the boys dressed in drag and they were straight! it was the kind of place where anything goes:P

in minnesota. the school was an experimental program, it actually started out with no rules! but it has since gotten more rigid..but yeah it's a haven for weird art kids...

You are definitely not alone. Actually, I think it is necessary to "evolve" in fashion or else you'll be left behind! (Like wearing jeans tucked in your Uggs everyday for the next 5 years would not be good).

Is there really a name for this, like "Dissociative Fashion Disorder," or does it mean you're just not plain jane

"Dissociative Fashion Disorder" is something I made up to describe my own constant change in fashion personality (much like Dissociative Identity Disorder, formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder). I can only maintain a certain fashion personality for a few months before I get bored and have to change it up again. I can't really explain why it happens - it just does. I guess I'm like that with a lot of things though (i.e. I get bored with the cars I have, my hairstyle/color, the decor of my home, music, etc.). I guess I just like change

Just remembered another stage in my evolution: My wig phase. I spent an obscene amount of money on numerous wigs, and wore a different one everyday. (Some were natural, some weren’t.) It was fun for a while…

I haven't been trough so many different style phases I think... I've always cared about my style though. Even when I was just 5-6 I hated to have the same shirt as someone else etc. If I realized I had the same shirt as someone else in school I wouln't wear it again.

When I was 16-18 I had this thing for blackblackblack (double layers if necessary) tights/pantyhose with skirts or dresses, band t-shirts, sneakers (not Converse All Star though... of course... cause they were worn by practically all the other alternative/indie kids, heh), black hair (it looked so BAD one me!) I think I didn't wear jeans/pants for about a year... my fave dress was a red Marimekko, and I guess it looked kinda weird together with my Airwalk sneakers and black/gold glittery tights, but that was just my style. ^_^

When I was 13-14 I was trying to be posh, but it didn't work out very well... Gosh, who was I trying to fool? It's not easy for a 14 year old to look posh without money...

Now I just wear whatever I like. I'm not dedicated to one style only, and I don't think it's possible to put a label on me, except that I don't follow trends. Rather the opposite actually... I wear what looks best on me. My fave piece of clothing is my light green leather coat. I bought it when I was 15 and I'll never get tired of it!!

Now that's what it's all about. Wear what makes you feel beautiful and confident :flower:

I'm really young, but here's my style-evolution:
0-7: skirts, always.I (like many other people) hated trousers. when I learned to speak, I started to have big fights with my mum about what I would wear...I thought that all she wanted me to wear was awful.my favourite piece was a black skirt with tiny, tiny roses (very deep red with hints of rose).I wish I'd still have that.not for wearing, of course.even though I say it myself, I think I looked adorable as a kid, better that I look now!

7-10: lots of bright colours.t-shirts,leggings,shorts,sweaters.very boring.I also had short hair.

10-13:1.I took my inspiration from books by Tolkien, and I was also trying to be a little hippy.
2.then,wh*re/goth phase.miniskirts, tiny, tiny, tiny H&M tops, kitsch belts, lots of eyeliner and balck/pink eyeshadow.I had a permanent, and all my clothes were too small, which I thought was sexy.I was so lucky to have that phase at so young age.I hope I'm a bit more classy now.

13-14: one word:H&M.bit of a 50s/60s vibe,though.dark brown hair.bit later, a Kate Moss-phase, where I wanted her style.and I really wanted it.*laughs*oh, and no make-up at all.

15(now:( trying to find myself.trying to be classy and simple.too much black, though.still desperately trying to find myself.I'm trying to avoid everything that girls here wear. and I've banned H&M,and try to shop more "quality".hope I won't end up looking like granny.my style is really boring now, but I'm trying to change.

that's it.

My style history (I'am currently 16,5 :P )

0-9 years: Boring normal boy....
9-13 years: I was wearing a lot of hip hop/skating clothes
13-15,5 years: I started to wear Lacoste, Peak etc. etc.
15,5- ? years: Nowadays I'am wearing clothing with a signature style. Colours, layers and accesories. I stand out from crowd. I'am really happy with my current style because the other styles that I have had had been boring and everybody was like me.

Birth-12: Whatever my parents bought me or got as presents
12-14: Preppy phase. Ugh. Khakis and polos.
14-16: Metalhead. Doc Martens, black jeans and band shirts. Long hair of course.
16-19: Full-out goth. From deathrocker (ripped fishnets, tight black jeans and combat boots) to "dark elegant" goth (black pants, crisp black dress shirt, red thin tie, silver jewelry, black nailpolish, eyeliner)
19-now:I don't really know how to classify it. Still helluva lot of black in my closet. Still drawn to dark, dramatic looks (i.e. Luster-era Dior Homme, Cloak, etc). I finally broke the cycle recently and purchased some blue jeans.

 What a cute thread

I went through a few stages as well

I did the whole 80's thing up until the 7th grade
so from about age 12-14 I did the whole sexy hip hop thing
the baggy jeans with tight half shirts and chunky boots.

I went throught the sports team phaze- basically basketball jerseys nothin but a sports bra under (classy I know:rolleyes: ) Football and baseball jerseys were in also. The whole my boyfriend plays ball thing. That only lasted for about a year.

I did the nautical thing that was really big when I was in high school. The "I just stepped off the yacht look:
Eddie Bauer shirts (yes on girls), Nautica sportswear, Polo, the flat Nike tennis shoes, khaki shorts, plaid shorts,

Then I went through the natural phase a la Erykah Badu/ Jill Scott
Home made looking clothing, no makeup, wearing head wraps, etc...

I went throught the preppy/surfer stage hard, the abercrombie and fitch, gap, old navy, pac sun, flip flops.

I went through another preppy stage, I would wear Armani Exchange, J Crew, Banana Republic

Now Im kind of in between, I tend to do more of the Stepford wives things ( thanx to marc jacobs  him) I just wore a full skirt with the tule underneath and a cropped cardigan with peek toe shoes to church yesterday.

When I dress down its more eclectic though, I think we are in the anything goes stage right now, you can either be preppy/ boho/skater/glamour/resort
I dont think there is any one thing that dominates right now?

Age 12-16: Metal Girl:mohawk: (included Phases of Punk and Grunge)

Age 16-21: Gothic (went from "romantic" with wide skirts, white Make-up, Piercings etc to "Fetish" from "S/M Looks" with Corsets, PVC etc to "Uniform/Military" styles

At age 21 I saw the Gucci F/W 03-04 Collection and Tom Ford became my Guru! Since that "my Style is Tom Ford"! He created so many fabulous looks for Gucci and YSL and almost all of them have some place in my life.

But my style also resembles the stricter Alexander McQueen and current Balenciaga Looks.

this is a great topic...
i'm old...so i will have to take my time and think about all my phases.... ...it has definitely been an 'evolution'...

I'm old too, actually I'm really old....so there have been lots and lots of phases and changes for me:P I'll try and remember the major ones.

0-15 My mum bought my clothes and I didn't have much say in the matter (I think it's her fault I'm so fashion obssessed:lol: )

I've been a hippie surfer girl, a disco queen, a punk rocker (complete with white blonde spikey hair and studded dog collar), a new romantic, a glamazon....oooh, it's embarrassing. I still have some of the relics from these phases, just to remind me how much of a fashion victim I was. These days I wear what suits me with a bit of vintage (40s-60s) thrown in.

Well, I haven't had that many phases, and you can definitely see links between what I'm buying right now and what I wore in high school--you could even put the last thing I bought with some of the pieces I had then as I'm returning to at least part of a color scheme I was doing then. But ... back then I was doing a more straight classic look, and really sometimes I was wearing clothes that were too old for me, like I stole one of my mother's bow blouses that was total office wear

And then later on I went for novelty sweaters in a pretty big way ... I guess that's when the witty started to work it's way in. I had some, ah, interesting ones

Now I'm less straight & classic, you could never mistake me for a Talbots spokeswoman, still witty but hopefully more subtly so most of the time

13-14 :evisu jeans, sneakers, t-shirts & big parkacoats´
14-16 : Corduroy blazers, diesel jeans, t-shirts with print and chuck taylors
16-16,5 : preppy.. wearing polos constantly
16,5-17 : BAPE, Nike sneakers, LVC :ninja:
17-? : Pulling inspiration from best of both worlds... Dior Homme/Cloak... (or atleast, trying to  )

8-11 - Very classy, pretty. My mum would buy me pretty dresses, lots of DKNY and Pinco Pallino..everything is very feminine and cute.
12 - 13 - LOADS of jeans, more casual..tried to be "funky"..started to wear distressed jeans, sweaters with stuff like flags/animals/whatever.
14 - My insane phase..ripped up sweaters, stripey socks, lots of plastic/mod earrings, multicoloured legwarmers, military inspired things, then there were baggy black trousers, etc.
15 - Kind of calmed down a bit..turned more simple and preppy, more neutral colours, nothing particularly interesting..at some parts I was a bit of a trend victim, not much accessories..boring, basically.
16 - It's already sort of changed since September  It's more rock 'n' roll, lots of grey, black, love neutral yellow, bright purple..lace, different kind of tights, a lot more accessories, less trendy.

~Middle school: Skater - clothes bought at skate shops
~Early high school: Depressed artsy skater - usually all black, dyed black hair
~Late high school: Preppy sheep skater - incorporated Gap, Old Navy, etc. into my wardrobe; had "school" wardrobe and "skating" wardrobe, always mixing both
~After graduation: Would-be fashionable - ditched all of my high school wardrobe, but replaced it with obnoxious, ill-fitting trash from Guess, Armani Exchange, etc.; started buying some actual designer stuff, but mostly victimish things; no real stylistic cohesiveness or direction
~Second year of college: Avant-goth - rid myself of the aforementioned junk and really started getting the hang of buying nice pieces; realized that dark clothes are really "me" and that I needed to start wearing them again; heavily guided into improvement by TFS by this time; gradually became conscious about good fit and various silhouettes; bought Ann Dem, Dirk Bikkembergs, Helmut Lang, etc....lots of strappy, colorless clothes; rather over-the-top outfits at times, I think
~Current: Goth/Rock - discovered how much the skinny-silhouette rock aesthetic of Dior Homme fits me; slowly incorporating subtle accents of color; still loving the heavy Ann D. gothness; split personality...I find myself either wearing very Diorish outfits or ignoring it altogether and going for a rather Ann Demeulemeesterish feel, though I often try to combine the two as well

...Or something. I feel really stupid after writing that.

Fun topic! I’m also one of the old generation so will just do a rough outline:

-70s: Holly Hobbie doll

-80s: started picking out my own clothes-> I  America:
jeans/ sweatshirt/converse and later classic french HS look:
striped top + Agnès b. snap cardigan + 501 levi's + bensimon tennis/ or converse (to this day still the same I believe  )

-late 80s rebellion: Alternative complete w/ red/blue hair - Docs - surplus & thrift store clothes
some influence from 'batcave' friends

-90s: Hippie/granny chic: Henna hair, piercing, Indian dresses, eclectic flea-market finds...
during art school evolved into more deconstructed-experimental style (making my own clothes) black
-influence from Belgian/Japanese esthetic

-In the past 10 years my look hasn’t changed that much but I've become more selective->
Prefer to buy little but quality pieces and complement with vintage.
More recent addiction/guilty pleasure: antique jewelry & handbags

ofcourse your style will change dramatically when you are young. I think over the years it will find balance..
