At what age did you start getting into fashion?

I have always loved fashion but was never actively into dressing up or trying new things. Its only recently in the last two years when I finally had the income to support my fashion fixes!

I was about 6 years old. My mother works in corporate and she was always so fabulous.

Before school, I would watch her get dressed. She always looked phenomenal. Her suits were always tailored extremely well, even those that were not designer.

She was a single mother and there were times. before she climbed that ladder that money was tight. However, NO ONE would know.

She knew how to buy necessary designer pieces and complement them with not so expensive quality pieces, and she always looked like a million.

The more money she started to make, the more she invested in timeless pieces that would last and that would not go out of style.

She always paid for classics and bought the trends for cheap, seeing as though she knew they were not timeless, and only around for a season. She loved and still does, to shop.

All of this was passed down to me. Our styles are so different, but when it comes down to it, my fashion sensability was retained from her.

I spend more on m things than she does, but I think I am just at that age. No kids, a fiance and a love of fashion.

When I was 12

A friend and I entered a contest where you could design clothes for Destiny's Child, and I went out and bought my first Vogue....and basically copied some outfits out of it. :P But that's when I first became aware that there was a whole wide fashionable world out there.

I have always been into dressing myself. I'd always dress up as a child. I'd throw on a white slip of my mom's, put some flowers in my hair, and pretend I was a bride. Or I'd put on a floor length satin glamorous nightgown of my mom's and pretend I was a movie star. In middle school I loved to put together outfits (everyone would always compliment me on my 'unique' style). In highschool I was obsessed with fashion (reading VOGUE, going to style.com, fashion forums, etc) but I was a bit overweight then (only by like 10 pounds, but it was all in my butt/thighs) and never could find really fashionable clothes that fit me well. Freshman year in college I lost about 20 pounds and finally was able to wear the fashionable clothes I'd wanted to for years. ^_^ It gave me a lot of confidence to wear the clothes.

I can't even remember. For some reason I've always had a very strong interest in what I wore. Probably started with some insecurity about something when I was younger, then gradually evolved into a sense of pride.

Well, always. I'm the only girl of 3 kids, so my mom has always spoilt me and bought me pretty girly dresses, which I've always loved. At age 4 I decided I wanted to be a fashion designer (god knows why), and bought a notebook and a pencil. I filled the entire thing with fashion drawings, and continued to design until I was 10 and got my first sewing machine. Things went uphill from there. I'm now 14, and I've never looked back =].

At age of 11, but I started as a trend and logo wh*re, that I thought was high fashion. At 14, I got better and better.

Vaguely flipping through this thread, I realized that people in high school are terrible.... even most of you aren't into fashion at my age yet......

I am so to speak born into fashion since my grandmother owned a shop where she was selling gowns and accessories. It closed down many years before my birth but my grandmother stored everything left from the shop in her house and I just loved dicking it out from the piles when she looked after me. Thanks to her I have at least 20 beautiful 50's and 60's dresses, so I am very greatful to her.

At.. say.. 2 years old? I loved dancing in my mothers hats, shoes etc and had some clothes i loved and some i hated (there were these darkgrey trousers i loved and wore almost everyday in 2 years from i was around 5 to 7). I bought my first Vogue-magazine at 9-10, started reading it every month when i was 11. Sew my first dress at age of 10 (not for me though, i wasn't a child-******, it was just the easiest thing to sew). I guess you can say i've always loved fashion, but i'm more into the artistic things of fashion and the clothes itself, more than trends.

I'm not sure...but I remember the first time that clothes really wowed me was when I was a little kid and my grandma had lots of old clothes and I wanted to see them and me and my cousin started to go through them..I'm not sure when this happened (maybe when I was 7,8,9?)but I still have some of those clothes and my grandma still collects old clothes for me, and I love them  But I remember some years ago I trashed two bags of clothes, and I am not sure what gems I got rid of

I have always been keen to magazines, my grandma again started to order me some girls mag in the same time which had stuff about carmen kass et cetera..and I always went to library and read fashion mags when I was in my grandmas (small place is Estonia). When I got internet I found style.com and from there tfs...and bought my first vogues, dec 04 UK vogue and nov 04 US vogue (I was 13)..And I remember this cause I was so happyyyy and I also posted in tfs about how happy I was

Since I was a little kid it was always important to me to have the right to decide myself which clothes to wear. I liked clothes and found the setting where I should've worn something I did not like nightmarish.

I started to read Vogue at the age of twelve. I got into the world of modern day designers, fashion magazines and models.

Now I don't like the things I liked at twelve anymore, so in a way I have discovered fashion once again. Now I am interested in the cut and fabric of the clothes, clothes as art. I am interested in the work of designers of the past, but there are many aspects of fashion of today that I don't relate to. In short what interests me in fashion is costume history and building yourself a quality wardrobe.

I've been concerned with what I've worn since I was 6. Around 7, I became interested in the craft of designing clothes and putting looks together. It was also at that time that I started cutting my own hair.

Much like DosViolines, even when I went through my tomboy stage from 11-14, I was always very picky about color, cut, material and proportion.

And like many of the other people on this thread, my interest in fashion was influenced by my mom. She attended FIT and worked as an illustrator at Bergdorf Goodman; when I was just a little kid, we would watch coverage of runway shows on tv. Often, I'd see my mom get dressed up for evening events. She would put on these wonderful sequined or beaded cocktail dresses and gowns. Then she'd pick out accessories from her huge collections of jeweled earrings, disco-style purses and metallic and brightly colored pumps. (Then there was the make up...lots of it...her love of makeup was definitely not something that rubbed off on me.) Anyway, I think all this influenced my 6 year old self to choose to wear abstract prints, graphics prints and neon colors. ^_^

i didnt really start paying attention to fashion until a couple years ago so like, 14ish?

Um I think I've always been. But I didn't know many designers or anything. So I'll say 13.

around the age of 16-17...i looked like a bum before, careless about what i wore..so i've been through a dramatical "makeover" during the last few years..
20 now by the way.

Wow. It's crazy to think that people get into fashion at the age of 7! In second grade, I was still wearing boxy hand-me-downs from my sister who got hand-me-downs from our family friend. It was either that or sweats that said Mickey Mouse!
