Balenciaga F/W 07.08 Paris

i don't like it either. there's just this one coat in the first pic that's somewhat appealing to me, the rest is SO NOT balenciaga. at least the balenciaga that i know.....that's not it.

Oh dear.
This is the exact opposite of everything I think Balenciaga is about.

This is Balenciaga? It's definitely not what I expected, and I'm not thrilled. But I'm not hating it.. I want to see more.

I have always said Ghesquière had no talent for Balenciaga ;) I don't usually like his designs, and this is no exception.

i know that you are entitled to your opinion, and i always like your posts, but you are wrong on this one.
while i can agree that this collection is bad, and his work is not always original (whose is?) he is unquestionably one of the best talents working today.......
if the top twenty talents of now are to be named, no one can honestly leave him out..............

Very weird. Nicolas isn't the type of designer to do the whole "Oh I went on a camelride expedition to Mongolia and was so inspired by the nature and the people" thing. That's kind of cheesy Donna Karan or Oscar de la Renta territory. Need to see more at this point but it's definitely unexpected.

It reminds me of early Ghesquiere at Balenciaga (the patchwork dresses come to mind)...I actually kind of like it, though the exaggerated Jodhpur pants are nighmarish and those shoes are rehashes from like 2003. It is really random though, it goes from being a Balenciaga collection to Chanel, Missoni and Dsquared. It's not very focused. Also, it seems like he played w/ a kafiyah...Uh, that was like 2 years ago, Nicolas, it's kind of dead now.

WAIT stop the presses...is that a "B" hanging from the belt loop? Gucci Group is creating a monster.

As you said, that's a personal opinion :flower: His designs have never felt good to me. I could maybe like his designs more (some of the 2001 designs are nice) if he'd have his own label, but now when his work is under Balenciaga's name, I don't like it. I admire Balenciaga's work, and I feel a little bad that his name and clothes are being connected with this work, as I don't think Ghesquière has anything like his talent was. I'm not saying he's completely talentless, but I just don't think he -or anyone for that matter- should be designing under Balenciaga's name. Balenciaga was a master, and I don't understand where all the hype about Ghesquière comes from.

THIS IS SO DISAPOINTING. :(

and what is up with the faux kalif (sp?) scarves????

Actually I LOVED pre-Fall, but this is similar to pre-fall but more...nomadic. Pre-fall was proper British hunters, now, they've become nomads for F/W. I can see the the thought process and evolution, but still...Doesn't make it good.

:p Hahhaha:p
This is the very first time I post something positive on a Balenciaga thread I think (or maybe ss2006)

I like it!:flower:
Besides the exagerated hips and the cinched waist, these are clothes to be worn right out of the catwalk, it seems very commercial, I think they're gonna sell like ...in a minute...

I love the patchwork, the details...not sure about the make up, but of course you have to leave some weirdness

But at last he left out the weird references, the unflattering silhouettes...
I was tired of balenciaga being "shapes""volumes" etc, this is refreshing, every woman would love it...because we know the contsruction is spectacular

I repeat what I kept saying since Milan, is obviously the change of direction on the trends and silhouettes this season, we're heading to a fluid much descontructed one, the big volume is out! I'm so happy!

Thanks Ghesquière

Too bad that original Balenciaga was pretty much about volume and shapes...

And I am a female but I don't love this?
