Balenciaga S/S 10 Paris

Well, if you only like what you enjoy at first glance, you're missing out on a lot. Not just fashion-wise, but in cinema, art, music, etc. :innocent:

Indeed. Each season I'll have several collections that just grate with my eye on first view, Balenciaga almost always, but there's a process of adjustment and some of those collections will ultimately become my favourites. It's what being a directional designer is all about. A talent who can alter our very perception of contemporary sartorial aesthetics. Another place where this 'adjustment' has occured for me personally this season would be Louis Vuitton. At first I was like OMG what a joke but another grower. Important to keep an open mind. Snap judgments stuck to equal an eye wide shut and standing still.

I'm still hating this collection, while everyone around me keep saying how amazing it is. It's just too much of everything, and it loses the coolness it could have. Also, the trousers everyone keeps gushing about are so old news, like really old news.

About the shoes: Imo Pierre Hardy has lost his touch completely. The last good shoe he designed for Balenciaga(or for anyone else) was the metallic stiletto-heel of fall 08/09. After that its all been ridiculous shapes, materials and overall bad taste!

I have to say the leather pieces are clunky-moving. And not in a beautiful robotic sense.. just unflattering.

This collection proves that love at the first sight is possible

there are some very nice pants in this collection, but nothing that excites me much. something is telling me that the collection is boring.

^ The clothes need to be seen in person to be appreciated. The details are lost in photos/video.

This collection has great pants and I love them, but they seem a little bit restrictive in terms of movement. Some models didn't walk freely in those.

I actually liked this collection a lot more than I usually do for Balenciaga. For the most part I think Mr. Ghesquiere is too edgy and trendy for me, but I liked this surprisingly. Maybe because I liked the mix of sleekness and sloppy carelessness, though I am not in love with the shoes or styling. Some of pieces do seem to be restricting though.
But I was surprised to skim through the thread and see a bunch of negative reviews

I so badly WANT to love this collection, but i just dont.
It makes me sad....I was looking forward to it...counting down the days till the show...and then i was just dissapointed
Even now, looking at the detailed photos...it still hasnt even grown on me

Opening look: pebbled leather pants... how much do you think those will go for? I've never needed any article of clothing more in my life!

its a very stale collection and when every other designer in nyc is making those restrictive looking leather pants its time to move on . 80s inspired Futurism at Balenciaga is starting to become very predictable and cliched. He needs to deliver something more WOW like it was 3 years back.

^ 3 years back it was 80s inspired futurism. The epitome of it, really.

Unless you mean that F/W collection of ready-made Zara knockoffs.

TBH I really, really don't see what's 80s about this collection. If anything I think a lot of it has an almost 90s feel to it, with echoes of street, skate and hip-hop culture. I mean maybe, if you squint, the colors could almost read as neon...but beyond that, I don't see anything very 80s.

Favs

These 3 are my favorites, I wish someone like Brandy or Rihanna (with longer hair) would wear these. But I know it will never happen. :(

I despised all of those shoes in this collection except these below; I think there was only one variation of this shoe in the entire collection.
