great outfits everyone:heart:

this isn't that old but I loved Evan Rachel Wood (who I normally dislike) in Lhuillier

^ Wow, never seen that before! I don't like ERW in any way, but that is gorgeous! Def. worth a mention here.

this thread is a dream! completely agree with everyone's choices.
thought i'd add to the bunch with a couple that have stuck in my mind:

Round two! Ding ding! (This is really hard, btw. I've had to leave out a lot of great outfits, because I really wanted to feature outfits I thought were excellent all around, not just great on a particular person or with a great dress but crummy hair/accessories, or great outfit but not outstandingly spectacular. Also, I'm trying really hard not to favor certain people. haha)

There was a time when I really quite loathed Charlize Theron. Today, I'm chiefly indifferent to her. But the stuff she wears sometimes really blows me away. What a stunning woman.

Chloë Sevigny is such a cute cookie. She's probably the only person who's able to make me genuinely laugh with some of her quirky outfit choices -- but in a good way, mind you. I love her sense of humor. Only she could take some outrageous piece of clothing and wear it with a "How's about these for pants?" attitude. I wanted to include at least another three outfits, but maybe that would've been pushing it just a little bit. haha So this is just a sample of Awesomeness:

Helen Mirren is a goddess. She upstages many of her younger co-stars on the red carpet more often than they'd like. There is often something very regal about her style. I am in awe.

I'm generally not really that impressed with Kate Winslet's style. She wears pretty, sophisticated things, but is often helpessly boring somehow. Except here (because I'm a sucker for bright blue):

Kate Winslet
- in Badgley Mischka
- at the 77th Annual Academy Awards in Feb 2005

I have such a love-hate relationship with Keira Knightley. There are personality aspects of her that I really very strongly dislike, and I'm still rather undecided on her as an actress, but no matter what, when Keira nails it on the red carpet, she does just that. I've really grown to like her style these recent years, which is far more well thought of and sophisticated than some people would like to allow.

Marisa Tomei is not someone I'm that familiar with, but with the exception of Anne Hathaway and Natalie Portman (in stunning purple Rodarte), the Oscars red carpet was really boring this year, until Marisa stepped onto it, looking holysmokesgorgeous. Versace, I bow down to thee.

That was a lot of dresses from the Academy Awards. But I think that about does it for me for now. There are a few more looks I almost wish I had included, but in the end I think this is the cream of the crop for me, evening gown- and party chic-wise.

I know, that's how thread always turn, lol.

Yeah, that's what all of these "best" threads turn into. Which takes the fun out of them. I expected this thread to have some uber-amazing and wow-ing outfits, not everyday cocktail dresses, and I-think-this-celeb-looks-nice-dress. It's the best outfits of the decade. Make the selections special and worthy.

Plus, what happened to non-celebs?

I think this thread could easily be called "The best designer gowns of the decade" since most of the selections are just gowns straight off the runway.

I'll start out with celebs ('cause they're easiest to remember), and the repeat winners on red carpet.

1) Nicole Kidman - IMO, she ruled the red-carpet during her post-divorce, Moulin Rouge/Cold Mountain era. Epitome of Hollywood meets high-fashion. I wish she'd get her spark back.

Emilio Pucci

Tom Ford for Gucci - definition of Hollywood glamor. She out-did everyone at the MET.

2) Dita von Teese

Galliano for Dior
- I don't think she'll never top this look. The dress is Dita personified.

3) Michelle Williams

Vera Wang - Only she could've pulled off this dress. It's so non-conventional in color and cut. Mustard orange rarely makes an appearance on the red carpet

I'm glad Michelle Williams in Vera Wang was thought of.She was truly stunning there.

4) Charlotte Casiraghi

Chanel HC - contrary to many tfs-ers in Charlotte's thread, I don't think she has any style at all, nor do I think she's particularly interested in fashion. This look however, totally fits the dream of the fairytale princess in a kingdom by the sea. The dress is every girl's dream ballgown.

Idk why she wanted to ruin the dress with an ugly/ill-matching black jacket.

5) Daphne Guinness - one of the few people actually deserving of the title "style icon". So very British-aristocratic-eccentric. Although her style nowadays are questionable.

I think people are being a bit rude. Have your own opinions, but some people like cocktail dresses. Maybe they stand out. I see this thread more as a 'retrospective' one looking back at the decade's fashion from different perspectives. Generic cocktail dresses or 'off-the-runway' looks or not, some people feel inspired by these. They may not be groundbreaking, but fashion is subjective. I know that I have chosen some generic outfits myself, but they have really stood out in my mind for some reason.

Eternitygoddess, you said what happened to non-celebs...this is Star Style, I hope you know. But fashionblogs such as The Sartorialist have such a big impact on popculture at the moment, I don't mind.

Anyway, I wanted to post a few more 2000-2005 outfits, but it's so damn hard as you usually forget about the earlier years. I posted Julia Roberts, Debra Messing et al...because they have stood out in my mind.

Somebody posted a picture of Kate Hudson in Valentino...it instantly reminded me of this Balmain dress she wore a few years ago that I absolutely loved. It pretty much represents her style:

I keep coming on this thread to add some older outfits, but somehow I fail. It's hard to reminded of older outfits. I'll keep searching. Are there any sites that keep a storage of a celebrity's past outfits? That would be really helpful!

EDIT: I can't believe I have forgotten one of my favourite red carpet looks of all time...Diane Kruger in Lanvin!

There are many non-celebrity, non-Hollywood, socialite-threads here in Star Style that are highly active. Ex: Daphne Guinness, Amanda Harlech, Caroline of Monaco, etc.

It's always a pleasure to see them included, because in general they have more interesting style choice than celebrities.

^Oh I understand you. I misunderstood you. I thought you meant random people like on The Sartorialist etc...

I think socialites count as celebrities IMO. I agree with you that it's good to see them other than the typical celebrities. I'll try to look for some standouts if I can. Daphne Guinness is a great example. I can't find much on google search. I'll look through her thread.

7) Natalia Vodianova
