Christian Dior Haute Couture S/S 2014 Paris

the video actually makes me like it a tiny bit more, some of the pieces are very pretty i wonder if i will end up liking it in the end

I miss the big dresses, the ones where models could barely walk. I understand that couture is craftsmanship and not a "look," but I don't see it here. This looks like a RTW collection.

Another brilliant collection from Raf IMHO, probably his best at Dior especially after seeing the details, the inspiration and video. Haute Couture has to only move forward to remain relevant and sell and this is a step in a good direction. The subtlety of the "hautness" in this collection is what I find very intriguing. The way the materials were worked and the less shiny but very detailed embellishments will allow the clothes complement the personalities of the women rather than overshadow them. The colour palette may have been a tad bit mundane but at least it doesn't distract from the exquisite craftsmanship and shapes. The silhouettes are also very interesting considering the perceived lightness and airiness of the materials. I particularly love the outfit on Stella Tenant and the closing dress.

However, I cannot for the life of me understand many of the unwarranted hate towards this collection, especially in this forum. Granted, as with all shows, the designs are subject to personal tastes and can be judged based on opinions rather than facts but to call this ready to wear is beyond me!

I personally believe that this is a good collection. I think Raf Simons is doing a great job at Dior. I see that he is keeping the aesthetic and the real essence of Dior in his designs. The minimalist vibe of Dior is in this collection as well as its elegance. Dior is not about embroidery, it is about silhouettes and the cleanliness of the design.

I admit that there are some pieces that do not look appealing to me but that doesn't mean that it is hideous. I agree to some people in this thread that he is indeed pushing boundaries.

Some people just miss Galliano in Dior that's why it is hard for them to accept Raf and some people just need to do their research before hating.

Worse collection for Dior in terms of inspiration and emotions. I can't imagine woman who wants to buy any piece of this. Really, will you spend thousands of dollars on any of this rtw look? Dior supposed to be a dream, a desire. This collection is not.
But I'm sure Dior corporate affairs, advert and PR agencies will make their best to describe it as innovative and "future of fashion" collection. They already have spread their seeds if you'll look at some comments here more precisely.
But is there any brave and independent journalist who will have the spirit to write their out opinion and won't play with safe words? Menkes has been working in this system for far too long to be the one.
All above in IMHO, of course, but believe me, I'm working in advertising and know a thing or two about how's the things are going.

This must be one of the worst HC collections from a respectable designer I've ever seen. It looks like no effort was put into it. Everything is so incredibly lame it's almost unbelievable. Wonder how much time he'll last at Dior...

Were these necessary? If I didn't know they are hand-made I could perfectly imagine them being part of a C-list NY brand resort collection.

If I wanted a 'pretty summer dress' I'd go elsewhere. Those garments aren't even pretty; in fact, they look seriously ill-fitting.

I watched the video thinking there was some information I wasn't getting from the photos. Sadly it revealed it's even worse that I thought. In movement and from different angles you can really see how poorly designed all of this is.

It's really at a point where next season I don't think I'll even bother looking.

I am absolutely certain he got Tao / CDG to do some pieces for him here.
I see some Tao , indeed .

Don´t care for any of it...
some of the fabrics´cut outs remind me of Kenzo´s eye fabric.
