Designer & Fashion Insiders Behavior (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

....seriously? Cowards. AS IF we're supposed to believe all those levels of higher-ups at Balenciaga (I include Demna in this btw) who take so much pride in being "edgy" and "transgressive" and doing "social commentary through fashion" had no clue about the things visible in their ad? And if we're leaning on the "it's in english and they don't know"...I'm not buying it.

If it was just the documents in the background of the one ad they might have some plausible deniability, it’s not hard to believe someone merely contracted to work on the campaign was the culprit. We know sometimes things get by (photoshop disasters, for example) that indicate maybe higher-level people aren’t as meticulous and in control as they should be. However, since a mere few weeks later they then dropped ads with the children holding kink teddy bears, for a separate campaign, they really have no recourse. The Michael Boerrman book adds another layer to it - more subtle, but coupled with everything else it feels like a sick choice. Obviously they have more legal firepower than some rando set decorators, so maybe it’s a smart move or something, but in the court of (my) public opinion, they’re only making themselves look even worse by suing.

Demma and Balenciaga, knew exactly what they were doing with that disgusting ad campaign.
What they didn't expect, was the backlash in the United States, where child grooming, and pedophilia is a lightening rod, in the current political climate.
Cristobel Balenciaga wouldn't recognize the garbage attached to his name.

If they don't want to be known as the pedo brand, Kering needs to cut down Gemna or whatever his name is and the current president of Balenciaga (also the stylist of this mess). No excuses, no second chances (they're certainly wont starve for getting out of job). It pisses me out that this will be forgotten until the next time, when this pychos will push the limit a little further through time, until we lose the shock value.

^ Lotta stopped working for Balenciaga years ago (since 2019 iirc), so... lol

I have zero patience for these loud righteous locals with no knowledge acting like they're investigative journalists. This whole controversy got very ridiculous very fast.

Oooof, this is really taking off. There’s a hard lesson here. There are two things you don’t mess with as the Internet will never fully forgive and forget: children and animals. Saw a scruffy-looking man with bleached hair on the tube this morning wearing a coat with ‘Balenciaga’ top to bottom, and my immediate reaction was strong aversion.

^ to be honest it is the internet to some degree but this is literally catnip for American media, and of course Republicans. NO ONE obsesses more about ‘ALL the dirty things that can happen to tiny little kids’ the way they do. No other culture seriously. Having a cute little toddler appear in a picture, showing a pic of yourself at age 3 taking a bath with your siblings, it’s all perceived as dirty, f*cked up, obscene, suspicious and even criminal.. it really makes you wonder: let’s protect the kids but also, why do you feel compelled to think so damn much about kids? quite strange. As a non-parent myself, I don’t spend any fraction of my time thinking of children, let alone all the exact ‘perverted’ things someone could do to them.. I can see the ad is wrong but not staying up all night thinking about the world we’re living in lol. Just feel bad for the silly dance moms who let their kids get cast on this lmao.

But yeah, ad aside, the level of shock and general extra sensitive button (like the reactions upon discovering Borremans' work), it all stems from this puritanical part of the culture.. sort of like priests obsessing over sex just because it's forbidden.

This has truly gotten out of hand - this witch hunt mentality is insane. I have second hand embarrassment for all sides here.

This reminds me of when Bratz and Monster High dolls were being denounced. The majority of these people don't care about protecting children, they just want to feel some sense of power (and probably trying to overcompensate).

I'm clearly fine with Balenciaga never using kids or whatever in their ads again. And frankly It's just another company owned by a billionaire at the end of the day. But seriously, people are reaching now and spreading false info.

Well, if Demna/creatives at Balenciaga were real transgressive artists and not a sh*t-stirrers, they'd stand behind the campaign, but.. lmao.. of course not.

It's bizarre to me how there seems to be this huge black and white gulf where either you're supposed to be some sort of religious pearl-clutcher if you think the campaign was inappropriate OR a pedophile enabler if you don't.

If we want to get into details, LVMH is a minority investor in BOF so it's not that "brave" for them to distance themselves from Balenciaga/Kering.

I feel like the clock is ticking Demna, consider Kering fired people to cause less drama, there is no way Pinault keeps Demna after all the bs stunts he pulled lately.

Anyway, you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.

they want the cachet of being "controversial" and associating themselves with "art" but the minute actual controversy hits they remember that they're actually just peddling clothes, they're not Salman Rushdie here.

yeah it's a bit ridiculous how it's now devolved into witch hunts on one side, while the other is going "if you see something wrong here, you're the problem!" Good old fashioned common sense that says don't sexualise kids (this is not some innocent childhood pic in the bath lol) + this is an attempt at 'edge' gone sideways (serves Balenciaga right for that), not some grand conspiracy.... right out the window.

And Kering/Balenciaga expects us to believe it was all the set decorator's fault and no higher ups had any clue, well, pull the other one, they look even worse for what chickens they are. I'll join Nicolas in cackling, even if I'm sure there'll still be idiots waiting to cover themselves in that logo once this blows over in about a week.

Interesting times. In the past such controversy would blow up then blow over in a week. But alas with live in very different times. Will be interesting to see what heads will roll, maybe demna will voluntarily (forced) resign from his position.

That is pretty much what describes what's going on here. Is it dopamine? Pretty sure it's not cortisol. It is so interesting to watch conservatards (and news outlets?) use that photo of the girl with the red dolls as Lotta. In addition to her telling everyone she's balenciaga's (and adidas') lead designer and stylist. People really just make up sh*t in their head and believe it for a high. No thought's just vibes. Not to be cynical (or maybe I do), I think that's all this really is to those people. Dopamine rush. They have way less interest in what a child is personally going through than the sensational story around it. We don't have to go into it but there's tons and tons of kids going through horrific things right in front of their faces in situations that aren't related to "sex" even featured on the news they watch. If it's not related to buying/selling or some blood sacrifice performed by the democratic cabal, boo hoo sorry but those kids can go scratch. I feel bad because I do think the teddy bear thing was inappropriate, then the court doc was very weird, and those things should've addressed and dealt with, but it turned into the perfect storm (i mean PERFECT. STORM.) and has gotten co-opted and way too out of control. Part of me thinks it will blow over because it is so sensational, the higher and faster it goes the harder it falls, but wat if it doesn't.
