Designer & Fashion Insiders Behavior (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

^^^ Not sure I know exactly how I feel about this, but this kind of thing is far from limited to a single country. Robert Kennedy's wife Cheryl Hines is in a somewhat similar position, and she had to distance herself from her husband's anti-vaxx activism. (It appears that they genuinely disagree, as she has enforced requirements he apparently disagrees with at their parties.) Entities like the Met know that people will hold them responsible for what their stars and alliances represent, and it's a bad time to be a friend of certain dictators. I do understand why people might not like to distance themselves, and I also think that they probably should have expected all along that the advantages of being a friend of P would have an expiration date. I might note that I'm far less concerned about stars in the art world losing their extra gig (read: not much at all) than I am about people who can't find something to eat because of this war.

^ but we’re assuming they’re friends, why? I think people are projecting US dynamics onto Russia (and any other country they suddenly get fixated on). It’s very ‘not Democrat, therefore Republican’ in the US but that’s not at all how it is in… I’d like to say the majority of countries around the world, some have better democracies capable of serving more than bipartisanship so it’s not this or that for everything. Others are in a much worse position where even frowning in front of the neighbor is considered disapproval of your government (cause, collective surveillance) and the cost is often too high and too cruel to gamble it. Now, also in the idealistic, more stable ‘we can all be heroes!’ regions of the world, it’s easy to say ‘I wouldn’t mind being persecuted because I know I’m standing for what’s right!’.. and that’s cool but it’s not so cool when you’re left untouched and it’s somehow your nephew the one who mysteriously disappears or is tortured, that’s usually why people will stand silent even if that costs them everything.

All of this to say is that it’s all a lot more complex than playing with a red EJECT button to appease your mind and congratulate yourself for having done your bit at achieving justice (the self-centered mindset is no joke). But if you’re throwing random Russians under the bus and accusing them of being ‘friends with Putin’ because that morally elevates you in the eyes of other Germans, French or Americans like you then… sounds like you got your sense of justice in order.

^ In the article I read, it cited such things as the people having been photographed hugging Putin, etc. It all sounded pretty reminiscent of the 3rd Reich, where you didn't have an artistic career unless you were 'on board.' My understanding is that all of these people are clearly connected, it's not random.

lol
The family rarely entertains here, but Austin often barbecues – steak for Gabriela and a vegan substitute for himself. “He gave up meat recently,” she says. “But that’s not going to fly with me – I feel like my body needs red meat once a week and I eat only grass-fed organic beef – but it’s clear to me that we cannot feed the 11 billion people on the planet with meat, and it needs to be treated like a luxury.” Today, the kitchen is full of the distinctive pink paper bags from Sant Ambroeus – Hearst has brought lunch with her from the Italian restaurant in Manhattan – and she has clearly spent time honing her technique with the espresso maker. “I’m going to get this perfect,” she says, handing over a coffee with just the right amount of crema on the surface. “If fashion doesn’t work out, I can get a job as a barista. Also, I can’t drive, so if I am on my own here, I have to be independent and be able to make good coffee!”

Inside Gabriela Hearst’s upstate New York retreat

Gabriela's family has significant holdings in ranch land, cattle and cattle operations. Gabriela runs the ranch. I'm guessing it's grass fed beef/cattle they sell.

Correct me if I'm wrong but is the meat industry as whole not one of the world's biggest water polluters? I'm not a vegetarian or vegan but for someone who has made a brand of being this environmentally-friendly, sustainable person...her behavior makes her seems like a hypocrite (which is not a shocker). I feel like Hearst is going to die by her own sword one day once the topic of her top 1% activities and how it conflicts with how she brands herself come more to light.

^ It is, but there's a huge difference also between factory farming and doing it well, which is presumably what her family business is doing. The US is the poster child for how to do it wrong.

Apparently dont not if it's 100 % true but russians citizens are not allowed to buy Chanel product and take their purchases to Russian , Chanel store are making them sign a contract about it and now russians influencers are boycotting the brand ( as they should ... it's a ridiculous decision from the brand and hyprocrite) . Don't get me wrong the situation in Ukraine is awful and disgusting but people want to blame and boycott everything like all are responsable of the actions that the Russian government is doing.. This fake militancy is beyond pathtic

? Is that true? Like they won't sell to Russian citizens regardless of what country they're in? And they're forbidden from wearing the brand in Russia? ... Odd behavior

What’s the source, badgalcrush?. It sounds bizarre enough to trace back to Putin fans lol, who are positively delusional. Where were they shopping at Chanel? Hong Kong? because.. aren’t the routes to flight from Western Europe to Russia all f-ed up?. And.. were they asked to show their passport before doing the transaction? and wouldn’t the document legally compromise a company for unethical practices (as in setting up conditions and attempting to retain a level of control over how a customer uses their product once a transaction has been finalized?), the more I think about it, the more fake it sounds, but probably credible enough if you’re buying all the propaganda on the ‘Ukrainian nazi regime’..

These influencers are just throwing a tantrum because Chanel is done with the Russian market. Whatever. The less oligarch sugardaddy-funded bags in this planet, the better!

Chanel is Screening Sales to Prevent its Wares From Ending Up in Russia

A spokesperson for Chanel confirmed that the brand has, in fact, “rolled out a process” in its stores outside of Russia “to ask clients for whom we do not know the main residency to confirm that the items they are purchasing will not be used in Russia,” a move that has spurred furor from Russian shoppers in markets, such as France, Italy, China, and Dubai.

“The latest sanctions from the European Union and Switzerland prohibit ‘the sale, directly or indirectly, of luxury items to any natural, legal person or entity in the Russian Federation or for use in the Russian Federation,’” Chanel said in a statement on Tuesday, noting that it is “currently working to improve the procedure.” Chanel – which maintains the title of the second largest luxury brand in the world, following only behind Louis Vuitton – also apologized in the statement “for any related misunderstandings and inconveniences” that have stemmed from its efforts to implement the newest EU sanctions that prohibit companies in the 27-member bloc from exporting luxury goods worth more than 300 euros ($330) to Russia.

(At the same time, U.S. President Biden signed an Executive Order in March that prohibits the exportation of luxury items “to any person located in the Russian Federation,” which the White House says “will ensure that U.S. persons are not providing luxury items, such as high end-watches, luxury vehicles, high-end apparel, high-end alcohol, jewelry, and other goods frequently purchased by Russian elites … who sustain Putin’s war machine.”)

Not an all-out ban, sales associates in Chanel stores are reportedly permitting purchases to Russian shoppers if they can show that they do not reside in Russia and/or agree in writing not to use the goods in Russia or otherwise export them to the country. (Worth noting: It will be interesting to see how Chanel views/treats products that are exported into Russia in violation of sanctions from a warranty perspective. All new Chanel bags and wallets on chain, for instance, that are purchased directly from Chanel enjoy an exclusive 5-year guarantee as of April 2021. There is a chance that bags that are imported in violation of state sanctions may not benefit from such terms of sale.)

Just saw a couple of post on social media that's why I said not 100% sure... Apparently it happened in Dubai's store and somewhere else but I find it so weird and unethical. I was just pointed that if it's true Chanel is doing a stupid move and the society in general wants to be seen as activist but it just shows how ugly our world is.
As soon as the world will talk about another subject Chanel executives will act like nothing happened. Still... why blame all the russians ? We all know that money is money dirty or not and it's not like they had issues in the past with that.

Ukraine war: Chanel restricts sales of goods to Russians abroad

French luxury giant Chanel has stopped selling its products to people who intend to take them to Russia, after shutting its stores in the country.

Moscow and some customers have accused the firm of being anti-Russian, and threatened to boycott the brand.

Chanel says it is just complying with European Union (EU) sanctions, which ban the sale to Russia of luxury goods priced at more than €300 ($327; £250).

Many Western firms halted operations in Russia after the Ukraine war started.

Chanel told the BBC that sanctions, imposed by the EU, as well as Switzerland, also prohibit the sale of luxury items to individuals who intend to use them in Russia.

The company said it "complies with all laws applicable to our operations and employees worldwide, including trade sanction laws".

"This is why we have rolled out a process to ask clients for whom we do not know the main residency to confirm that the items they are purchasing will not be used in Russia," Chanel said in a statement.

"We are currently working on improving this approach and we apologise for any misunderstanding this may have caused," the company added.

"Welcoming all our clients, regardless of where they come from, is a priority for Chanel."

Some Russians have said that they have been turned away from Chanel stores around the world.

Influencer Anna Kalashnikova said on Instagram that she was stopped from buying Chanel products in Dubai.

Ms Kalashnikova posted: "Since I often come to Dubai as the host of Fashion Week, the managers of Chanel recognised me, approached me and said: We know that you are a celebrity in Russia. We know that you will go there, so we can't sell you our brand items."

"Western boutiques ask for identification data, and when you [give] a Russian number, the salesmen say, now we sell things to Russians only under the promise that they will not take them to Russia and that they will not wear them there," Ms Kalashnikova said.

"Russiaphobia in action. I experienced it myself," she added.

In an Instagram video, Russian model Victoria Bonya cut up what appears to be a black quilted Chanel bag.

"Bye bye" Ms Bonya said as she threw the pieces aside.

"If Chanel house does not respect their clients, why do we have to respect Chanel house?" she said.

Earlier this week, Russia's foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said "A number of bloggers reported that official Chanel brand stores abroad refused to sell their products to Russian citizens".

Ms Zakharova accused Chanel of joining "the Russophobic campaign to cancel Russia".

Many Western brands have halted their operations in Russia. Early in March, luxury retailers Chanel, LVMH, Hermes and Kering said they would temporarily shut their shops in the country.

On Tuesday, the EU, along with the US and G7, said it would propose further sanctions against Russia, following allegations of Russian war crimes in Ukraine.

European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen said the planned measures included an import ban on coal and a ban on Russian ships and road operators.

The G7 (Group of Seven) is an organisation of the world's seven largest so-called "advanced" economies, which dominate global trade and the international financial system. They are Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the United States.

Earlier measures have targeted individuals including Russian President Vladimir Putin and hundreds of Russian politicians and oligarchs, as well as the country's financial and energy sectors.

Maria Zakharova is very important person who create Russian propaganda. Also during last conference she not looking great... This is a substitute topic to distract from what is happening.

I honestly don't know what to believe anymore. Especially after reading what you wrote. It does seem quite silly and low for Russia to name Chanel, specifically, in all of this, given the blocking from other brands that is going on. It is also so trivial in the grand scheme of what is going on.

Also, why TF are people cutting up bags? Sell them, donate them, but cutting them up? At the end of the day, you are just cutting up your money. Chanel already got theirs, and will continue to.
