^ I understand where you are coming from, but I can't imagine owning clothing without thinking about the designer...even if the designers "technically" are assistants. And I believe Dior still holds a mixture between a label and a designer, it most certainly does not hold as true to design as in past collection, but the brand is recognized for design, not for a label. Many cuts and embellishments seem to be such signatures to DH.

H.S., great posts. First of all, their intelligence does not go un-noted, and it's much appreciated. A lot of people actually think that what people say is sometimes not true. I know, I know, it's shocking, and thankfully you rarely see that kind of error of thinking on this forum but it does happen. Of course YSL designed each and every piece that ever appeared on his catwalk. Some people miss this, but he said so. Thanks for noting it, H.S.

Thanks, also, for the lyrical elegance of your posts, with their effortless union of eloquence and logic,

"Fair enuff if you care for the clothes and not care for who it was inspired by if the clothes is nice enuff but isn't that ironic that you like the clothes that is inspired by that someone who you dislike and you are willing to dress like him?"

You could break that into lines and some of the best poets would be envious of its audacious intelligence and beauty. Not to mention the sentiment. It was tough for me, when I realised the truth of this argument a few years ago. When I discovered that at one stage of the game Gio Ponti had been a communist, I had to start *#$*ing outside.

And the reason Givenchy did so badly under Julein was because he decide what looks good and what is not assuming he make the final decision!

This is like saying you should't drop Kate because she is still has a pretty face eventhough what had happen to her!

'Who knows if Hedi did the best pieces by himself and not one of his certainly very talented assistants' - Aren't you being cynical? it is like 'hmmmm...i wonder if YSL actually design all the clothes even though he said so...

More so than certain cuts and embellishments as you mentioned, it´s about an integrity and consistancy with a designer... an approach to design, the *way* something is made... just have a look on people like Yohji Yamamoto, Ann Demeulemeester, Helmut Lang, Azzedine Alaia or Miyake, there´s a thread going through every single of their collections, the collection never changes completely and they are never so strongly image-driven as with Dior... both Galliano and Slimane, even though the design is completely different, the whole marketing strategy is the same... Dior Surf, Dior 6,5cm Heels, Dior Duffle Bag, Dior Rasta, it´s all the same, and it doesn´t make it very "créateur" in my eyes...

I´d love to believe in Hedi Slimane as a free-spirited designer, but he would definitely have to part with Dior Homme to prove that. He simply doesn´t have the freedom he once had, and that´s pretty obvious to me.

^ I surely agree that Dior Homme is much more image driven than other brands, but I think it is more of a re-invention than a following. Others may be consistent, but consistency IMO does not stand out. I appriceate the cothing itself more, but the brand to me has come to a hault. They have found a design that works for them, and they are sticking to it. Maybe it is an issue of timidness to branch out and re-invent, or maybe they have found the design they truly love and wish to keep. Whatever the case, IMO, the design is barely changing, and that bores me in a way. I respect Hedi for creating something new every season...or at least his "assistants" for doing it. Maybe at a later point, the brand/design will settle down, and become as you say "consistent"...but for now, I am satisfied with what Dior is releasing.

I went to Dior Homme boutique while i was on break form work today, I checked out the new necklaces. the one with the eagle is 295 and the double chain one is 355. they are extremely thin in person, kinda looks sorta fake silver, however I think they are still nice looking. Also the 2,000 dollar t shirt is there someone mustve returned one of them, its a pinkish, peachish color see through shirt with swarovski crystal stitched into it.

*sorry to take this heavy conversation off topic for just a wee second*

Jost (do you mind if I call you that, as your name's spelling is hard to remember), I would like to thank you for the recommendation you made in this thread on the original german army sneakers a while back, i just got mine in the mail and they are the perfect compliment to DH jeans!!! I personally find these work better w/ my look than the actual Dior version, thanks again!

So I'm just browsing through Firstview right now...and I have to say, Red/Boys Don't Cry is probably my favorite fashion collection of all time. I had to stare at these for a long time:

if I was a hitman that's what I'd wear on the job...someone wearing this outfit is dressed to kill, literally.

that's my dream outfit right there...this image fully captures my idea of perfection.

Pictures from Firstview.

It's hilarious how much people twist others' words around in their minds. Lighten the f*ck up. I never said I disliked Hedi Slimane. My point was that I like nice clothes, and I don't give a sh*t who is designing them as long as they are amazing. Carol Christian Poell designs incredible clothing. If some random guy named John Smith was designing the same thing...whatever. It's good clothing. Period. How difficult is that to understand? Keep your pretentious drivel to yourselves.

I get the feeling that some people would still think Hedi was a genius if he sent trashbags down the runway.

355 really? strange, it's 300 on eluxury. Im really considering getting one, it's just like you said though they're pretty thin. so torn.

i want to see that shirt in person.

Also, anyone know if those pendant waistcoats from Reflection were ever made and if so how much they retailed for? The ones with all the pendants and chains.

and I found this on yahoo japan. All I can say is...gross

I hear you and i fully agree.
To me it's all about deisgn not the person behind. Add to that quality and a limited production/collection and you always got a winner. I couldnt care less whoever actually designed the piece.

Fade to Black

agree here too, that collection is breathtaking.

Mouko those boots look like Martian feet. Never seen that colorway, is that real DH?

There are a ton of variations I had never officially heard about. I know they came in silver/gold two tones. They also have longer version with side seams and a low cut one that's laced up that ed showed me in an issue of vogue. Really strange, they're popping up out of nowhere. So these don't really surprise me at all.

doesnt mb117 have the gold/silver two toned ones? man do i wanna see pics of those.

Last I checked, Dior boutique in NY had some still, as Barneys and Jefferys. Try calling them.

The necklace is actually very nice. I guess you could call it thin? But how heavy is silver really supposed to be? The solid silver rings and bars on the necklace are quite heavy though, for their size, but I don't really expect a silver chain to be that heavy.

And concering the waistcoats from Reflection, I'm pretty sure they were just plain waist coats that were absolutely covered in pins and chatelaines, which you cand still buy a few places online. I don't think they ever sold a coat that came pre-adorned with the pins.

thanks for that mouko. where they the full gold ones? i would die if i bought the black and gold ones above by mistake!

just came back with this coat- having second thoughts though- it's v. snug when wearing a mid-weight knit. its a good basic wool coat but second thoughts....

IMO Dior Homme is all about the fit. So if the fit is indeed what you are questioning, take it back-- NOW --before the 14 days is up.
