I fear this is a choice at the convenience of the CEOs rather than to advance the legacy, creativity of the brand as well as bring in the $$$. Vacarello is an easy choice for Belletini, but he has not been able to succeed during this luxury downturn. YSL in Asia keeps going down. They were able to generate more hype with the film productions so thats good. Even their bags and accessories look abysmal because they are still stuck in the 2010s-logo era. At least for Dario, he's had some fresh ideas. Still not convinced he is their guy either but this proves to me Kering has no strategy. After the first SDS show they should have been scrambling to find their next designer but these ceos have no idea what they are doing.

I think as gucci is priority: as they want to revive the golden Tom Gucci years Vaccarello is trusted and manageable person to redo the TF gucci archives.
also Bellettini said at last Kering meeting : From the new creative director we can expect "a great ability to make people dream, to transmit passion, to demonstrate talent and make the brand desirable, based on an extremely solid foundation that we have built in the last 18 months".

for me this sentences is Vaccarello that did his copy of home work well at YSL post Hedi, and she is still in Hedi mind set of rebranding , something dark sleek sexy and chic.

i feel they go for safe and well tested because a star designer is too costly and not what she wants again post Alessandro another diva in the house the brand needs to be first and corporate rules.

Gucci designers (Tom aside) have had 0 design skills, so it could be him actually.

Frida, SDS were Zara 2.0 and Alessandro was really basic as well (even if overstyled).

There’s nobody to replace him at Saint Laurent though. And I am not sure AV can survive without a legacy. If his Saint Laurent is beyond flat with one of the most amazing archives in the world… imagine at Gucci.
