I don't really understand Juno getting so many nominations. It was cute, but seriously, it was not that great.
This is pretty simple. Disappointing, but simple:
The Academy has practically been having a fit the past few years as a result of dwindling viewers and the loss of younger audiences. Juno will
guarantee a younger and potentially larger audience. I know it sounds cynical, but with each passing year it becomes more obvious that the Oscars are as much huge cash grab as an awards ceremony, and are more in favour of the popular vote then anything.
I mean, don't get me wrong, I've been watching them every year since I was allowed to stay up that late. But it really gets more and more frustrating. I also
liked Juno, but as far I'm concerned, there's nothing Oscar-worthy about it.
And I also wish that the Academy would stop being to enamored of Cate Blanchett. I think that she is a fine actress, but sometimes it seems like they're working too hard to establish her as the new Meryl.
Having said that, there's the possibility that she will follow in the footsteps of her predecessors who received two nominations, Signourney Weaver and Julianne Moore, and end up with nothing at the end of the night.
