:o Keira and Angelina got robbed ...

... at least Johnny Depp got an Oscar nom (best actor) :woot:

Ok so the noms are in....

starting with the good news:
I'm so happy for Ellen Page!!!!!! :buzz:  While a lot of people were hoping for her to get nominated, I didn't think she was a definite shoo-in. Her performance in this movie was so amazing and realistic...I haven't seen any of the other best actress nominated performances, but Page is already my favorite and choice to win.

I am also so glad that "Juno" got nods for Best Direction, Best Original Screenplay and Best Picture. I was kind of suprised by the Best Director nom because I thought of this movie of Diablo Cody's movie than Jason Reitman's but congratulations nonetheless. While the screenplay has some "i'm so hip, cool-than-thou" moments, I think it is a genuinely heartfelt story that is witty, sweet and poignant....I don't know how much of a chance it has to win, but it's my all-around favorite this year

I'm suprised by some of the best actress noms... I thought for sure Keira was going to get nominated rather than Cate. I think she was robbed because she was superb in "Atonement". I assumed this because "Atonement" was a much more critically acclaimed film that "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" was. I can't say I was suprised by Marion Cotillard's nomination, but I think she wouldn't have been nominated had she not won the Golden Globe for this performance.

I'm also suprised to see some performances nominated that didn't generate very much buzz at all- - Tommy Lee Jones in "The Valley of Elah", Hal Hollbrook in "Into The Wild", Ruby Dee in "American Gangster"...I haven't seen any of these films yet so I can't say whether or not they deserve their nominations. I don't think Phillip Seymour Hoffman should have been nominated for "Charlie Wilson's War"... he was good in that film, but not absolutely great. He should have been nominated either for "The Savages" or for "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead". I was suprised to see that "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" didn't get a Best Direction nomination for Sidney Lumet because I suspected that his old age would get him the sentimental vote, only boosted by the fact that "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" is an amazing film.
I might be the only one, but I ABSOLUTELY HATED "Sweeney Todd" and I don't think Johnny Depp deserves the nomination AT ALL . Don't even get me started on this terrible film. The movie was so repetitious and graitiously violent, filled with lame gothic melodies.... Unfortunately, I was with other people when I saw the movie so I couldn't just walk out.

My choices for winners:

Actor in a Leading Role: It will be either George Clooney or Daniel Day Lewis FTW... I think Lewis had the better performance, but Hollywood loves George, so who knows.

Actor in a Supporting Role: Javier Bardem

Actress in a Leading Role: Ellen Page, I hope, but I don't know how likely it will be...

Actress in a Supporting Role: Cate Blanchett

Animated Feature Film: Ratatouille! That movie is so awesome B)

Original Screenplay: Diablo Cody for "Juno"

Adapted Screenplay: Ronald Harwood for "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly"

Best Directing: Oh, this is a toughie... feasibly, I think any of them could win, but I think it will be between "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly", "Juno" and "No Country For Old Men".

I agree! How disappointing...and James McAvoy! What the hell...all the nominations are pretty out there and bizarre...

Angelina is just a total shock...

^^OMG he was ROBBED!

I LOVED his performance in Atonement,it was a great movie all together, but i think all the hype sourranding it,killed it(they must feel so dumb at EW and W!:innocent::lol:).I mean why would anyone think that Keira will get a nod is beyond me. :ninja:

But how can i express enough the joy of seeing Ruby Dee get a nod,the same for Saoirse Ronan: :woot:

I also quite agree with the others.^_^

Very shocked about Angelina. She was amazing in A Mighty Heart.
But yay for Ellen Page! She totally deserves it, although I think the award will go either to Marion Cotillard or to Julie Christie.

Keira's lack of nomination is not shocking in the least. Neither is McAvoy's for that matter, although I did think he had a slightly better chance at getting nominated. But I'm just happy that Atonement made the Best Picture lineup. It didn't look for it there for some time after continuous snubs by the guilds. But too bad about Joe Wright. This is Bal Luhrmann and Moulin Rouge all over again (or Apollo 13 and Ron Howard). Sadly, I think this pretty much kills any hope whatsoever that anyone could have had about Atonement winning Best Picture.

Angelina's snub is definitely shocking. She got nominations from BFCA, Globes and SAG, so most people expected she was a shoo in.

Tommy Lee Jones nomination (for that film in that category) came completely out of the blue. Many, me included, predicted him in Supporting category for No Country since that's what he got a SAG for. I dont' believe he got a single mention in all of the awards season for his Into the Valley of Elah performance. Though I did think (before the race really got going) that he would get nominated for that performance, but like I said, he was completely overlooked by every other award out there, so people figured he was done.

Laura Linney is the same way. Although she did get a couple minor mentions here and there, she was notably absent from the big lineups like Globes and BFCA and SAG. But some people were predicting her since 5th Best Actress spot was up for grabs supposedly. But interestly enough she took Angelina's spot and Cate Blanchett ended up with the spot people were doubting.

I'm surprised by the Into the Wild snub across the board (save for two nominations). I thought for sure Academy will eat it up, since it seemed like THEIR kind of film and it was directed by an Academy Winner actor, Sean Penn. On top of that, the film was eaten up by the guilds and it features the perennial Oscar favorite Catherine Keener. Maybe Penn's divorce during the voting turned people off?

Juno, while people weren't predicting it for the Picture as much lately, is not really a surprise in that category. Neither are its nomination for Actress or Screenplay, which have been locks for months now. What is surprising is its Best Director nomination. I did not see that coming at all. It's too bad too that Reitman took away Joe Wright's spot, who was much more deserving for a nomination.

And just one more thing Cate Blanchett can do no wrong in Academy's eyes. She's the Meryl Streep of this decade/generation. She not has 4 nominations and 1 win (so far) in the last four years (5 nominations overall). Not too bad. But I have to say, as much as I like her, I REALLY REALLY REALLY wish Amy Adams got a nomination for Enchanted instead of Blanchett getting that second nod for Elizabeth. So, not seeing Amy Adams up there is what saddens me, she really deserved it.

i was most surprised that eddie vedder and jonny greenwood were shut out of the music categories...
with 3 songs from "enchanted" nominated!

also surprising that the only acting nod for atonement was for saoirse ronan...
all of the best picture nominees have at least one person in the best actor/actress categories except that...
after their golden globe win, i was sure kiera would get a nomination (even though i thought her performance was so-so)...

I don't think Angelina not getting nominated was shocking. A Might Heart was critically panned for the most part.

I hope Daniel and Cate win Best actor/actress...I don't like the smug George Clooney and Juno is getting praise for being a hip, cool pregnant teen movie, yet Hollywood made a big deal out of Jamie Lynn Spears pregnancy.:innocent:

Cate really didn't deserve it for Elizabeth...she does for I'm Not There though and will probably win Supporting Actress again.

I am appalled that james McAvoy did not get a nod. I really am.:angry:And Joe wright??? He didnt even get one for best director!!! What the hell Cate Blanchett???? and philip seymour hoffman??? :yuk:pfft. the oscar people know nothing about good performances. It just shows that the oscars are a bloody popularity competition. I swear the same people get nominated every bloody year. At least the Baftas have more substance.

Cate really didn't deserve it for Elizabeth...she does for I'm Not There though and will probably win Supporting Actress again.

While I do agree with the first part of that statement, I really want Amy Ryan to get Supporting Actress.

In my opinion, Blanchett has become the next Streepe or Nicholson- whatever she's in, good or bad, she will be nominated for it.

Wow there are some surprises isn't there.

I can't believe Keira & James got snubbed . Even though she's one of my favs I agree with Luxxx Cate shouldn't have been nominated in the best actress category. Supporting yes and she will probably win but Keira should be in the best category instead.

And I'm hacked off on behalf of Joe Wright. What a b*tch slap .

Here are my picks in bold-

Best Picture: "Atonement," "Juno," "Michael Clayton," "No Country for Old Men," "There Will Be Blood."

I really don't know it could be one of the three.

Actor: George Clooney, "Michael Clayton"; Daniel Day-Lewis, "There Will Be Blood"; Johnny Depp, "Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street"; Tommy Lee Jones, "In the Valley of Elah"; Viggo Mortensen, "Eastern Promises."

My money's on Daniel. I really want Johnny to win because he is my favoutite actor but I don't think this is the role that will get it (Hopefully Vanessa will be at the awards with him looking fantastic in Chanel).

Actress: Cate Blanchett, "Elizabeth: The Golden Age"; Julie Christie, "Away From Her"; Marion Cotillard, "La Vie en Rose"; Laura Linney, "The Savages"; Ellen Page, "Juno."

I will admit that I haven't seen it but from reviews and internet talk if Marion doesn't get it then that is f**ked up. I love Julie but she already has one so I'm going with Marion.

Supporting Actor: Casey Affleck, "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford"; Javier Bardem, "No Country for Old Men"; Hal Holbrook, "Into the Wild"; Philip Seymour Hoffman, "Charlie Wilson's War"; Tom Wilkinson, "Michael Clayton."

Like Daniel my money's on Javier but I would be really happy if Casey got it.

Supporting Actress: Cate Blanchett, "I'm Not There"; Ruby Dee, "American Gangster"; Saoirse Ronan, "Atonement"; Amy Ryan, "Gone Baby Gone"; Tilda Swinton, "Michael Clayton."

Cate should get it but I wouldn't be surprised if Tilda or Saoirse do.

Director: Julian Schnabel, "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly"; Jason Reitman, "Juno"; Tony Gilroy, "Michael Clayton"; Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, "No Country for Old Men"; Paul Thomas Anderson, "There Will Be Blood."

The Coen's. They deserve it and didn't get it for Fargo.

Now we just have to wait and see if the regular format with carpet and celebs will go ahead as planned. I will be so disappointed if it doesn't.

I'm telling you all, Amy Ryan is going to suprise the crap out of everyone when she walks off that stage with her Best Suppporting Actress award...

I don't think Angelina not getting nominated was shocking. A Might Heart was critically panned for the most part.

That's true, but she did very well in the awards season and was nominated by pretty much every relevant awards body.

I'm glad though, because I hate her and Brad Pitt. Now if only Academy woke up and stopped masturbating to George Clooney, life would be just great.
