Early Oscar Buzz (2009)

So sad that Mother (from South Korea) isn't in the shortlist. Samson and Delilah, A Prophet (saw it at TIFF - awesome!), White Ribbon and Kelin are my four but I can't pick a fifth.

Huh, with the BAFTA shortlist for Best Picture snubbing Inglourious Basterds it's almost shocking to me how quickly the film's Oscar buzz is fading. At least it still snagged other major BAFTA nominations and will most likely take the SAG Best Ensemble this weekend, but with its Globes almost-snub and now this, the Weinstein distaste backlash/tiring of Tarantino's style appears to be well in the works (The latter of which is unfortunate).

Oscars may still be unpredictable but I think it's basically Avatar vs. The Hurt Locker at this point. Personally rooting for THL...and wouldn't mind either Bigelow or Cameron taking the Oscar since they each have their own merits (I do hope Kathryn comes out victorious, though). Battle of the exes, begin! B)
