Edie Sedgwick #1

galliano actually said that the dior hair and makeup posted a few pages back was inspired by baby jane, and to clarify edie's hairdo - she cut it short and died it to look like andy's (he wore a silver/gray wig), not the other way around.
Edie has stated that she didn't do her hair that way to look like Andy actually :innocent:

Edie was the most carefree about her look, she didn't try to emulate Warhol's hair, she wanted blond hair but only found a silver spray can. I can't say there was anyone she tried to emulate, BUT many have tried to emulate her, big difference. Galliano did try to find inspiration in Edie but he f*cked up because he was too arrogant and lacked originality and Pat Mcgrath was talentless. NOBODY WAS LIKE EDIE. Not then or NOW.

^ I'm not sure which Galliano show you're talking about, but he did an homage to Edie for his 2005 couture collection for Dior, which I thought was quite wonderful.

I know Edie said she didn't dye her hair silver to match Andy's, but for some reason I don't really believe her. I feel like she just didn't want to admit it (especially since she said this years after her fallout with Andy, when she probably felt some resentment towards him). I mean it's just too... coincidental for me, the silver hair. I mean they must have been told all the time how similar they looked (Factory members recall them being just like twins), it's something she was definitely aware of. So, I don't know...

Anyway, thank you sooooo much for the new pictures!!! It's been such a crazy long time since I've seen something new.

I've read that Edie was the one who wore the white and black striped shirts first and Andy kind o copied her..I don't think Edie would have copied or tried to look like anyone, I doesn't seem like her IMO. Also the silver hair, it's not like it was gray..

I've always felt the same way...I think they sort of copied each other, didn't truman capote say that he thought andy would've liked to have been edie?

i think edie definetely had qualities in her andy wish he did. i find people tend to make friends with other people who either they have similar qualities with or ones they want.

I've heard people say that Paris Hilton is the modern-day Edie.
Discuss.

I think Andy & Edie adored each other, at least for a while. Has anyone ever seen the letter Edie wrote Andy after he was shot.....a copy is in the "Girl on Fire" book.

BTW, I don't think you can even start to compare Edie and Paris. Besides many other opposites, Paris has no "Warhol". The only thing I think they could possibly have in common is famous family's and Edie's was more "blue blood". (in my opinion ^_^)

Just to clear some things up...

Andy was wearing striped shirts 63-64'ish - before he met Edie. Perhaps not as often as in the mid-60's, but Edie Sedgwick did not "make" striped shirts, it was a common "60's look".

Her hair was bleached, so her whole comment about that she could only find silver spray is more than likely false. I don't know why she'd say that when her hair is so often pictured blonde, and considering Andy Warhol had silver wigs before he met her, she more than likely copied it. It's not that big of a deal. And since when does saying you did or didn't do something make it automatically true??

Galliano did use Edie as inspiration for an '05 collection of his, but his most recent was inspired by Baby Jane Holzer.

By some of the comments in this thread, you'd swear people would have thought that Edie Sedgwick created the world in 7 days. I like Edie a great deal too, but she was not the very first person to ever do anything. A great deal of what she did was just that - unoriginal and copied. Doesn't make her any less special or interesting, but this whole "Edie was so original, everyone copied HER, Andy was nothing without her, he copied everything she did" is bull****. I think Edie & Andy were very simpatico & seemed to be into a whole twinsy look, so it was probably to an extent somewhat planned what they did. I'm sure he emulated things she did, but I'm more than sure she 'copied' him as well.

There are loads of pics of Edie having silver hair..so you saying that's more than likely false..well I don't think so.
And I'm really tired of ppl being so hung up in who wore that first and who wore it after and then it was copied and whatever...puh-leese. IMO Edie was original, why else would Warhol make film of her and tell her she just had to be herself?
Also it's not like Andy was a nobody before he met Edie, but she def gave him access to places he rob wouldn't have gone to if it wasn't for her..

That's been discussed like a million times before, and the only thing I have to say about it, is that Edie had style something IMO Paris lack.

Paris also isn't interesting, she needed Nicole Richie on The Simple Life just to make the episodes entertaining. If anything for a time Nicole was more Edie with everything from her style to the fact that she was way more interesting on her own.

can we pahlease not talk about paris here...it's obvious none of us think of edie as the modern-day paris hilton

Her hair was bleached. Obviously there were times that she had silver hair, but for the most part it was blonde, so all I'm saying is that it doesn't seem too likely that all she could "find was silver spray instead of the blonde" otherwise she probably would've never had blonde hair.

Andy told everyone to just be themselves, not specifically Edie. Considering they only paled around together for about a year -if even that long - and the fact that she wasn't even really famous (maybe in New York City she was semi-famous) I hardly think she affected him that much. Andy Warhol was famous in his own right, his art was talked about all over, he was extremely successful, had great connections; this all before he ever even met her. He would've gotten to where he was had he met Edie or not.

I'm sorry but this is not the Andy Warhol thread, and eventho I'm a fan and all, this is the thread to talk about Edie Sedgwick :innocent:
