warhol's films were innovative in that nothing really happened in most of them; they were banal, prolonged, and based on ordinary things (there is one movie where he films the Empire State building for like, 24 hours or something), and that was his interpretation of life-- which tends to banal, prolonged and ordinary itself. it was mostly his upbringing that made him behave the way he does, though. he was terribly self-conscious and dirt *** poor.
but yeah, i know what you mean, he can come across as pretty pretentious most of the time. i hope this helped... sort of.
