Gucci S/S 07 Milan

I can see how Frida mixed the cruise line with the fall. She did great job I hope no one complaining. I know i'm not.

wtf is up with the dopey sandals, they look like lego blocks to me. Gucci is usually really edgy looking with tonnes of weird cuts, what happened her. It looks ok, but ud never think this is Gucci.

wow! love about half of it, could leave the rest. i really like the looks based on lighter colors and the prints with the white background. not liking the looks based on black...anyone else feel this way?

god.........wish i was in milan. after prada...and now this...! so good!

I love it ! I love the colors and the sunglasses :woot:

only like few 'stories' like the white bg line with the bold jewel colour details, but the 'folk' and the 'tone-sur-tone' black/white/grey lines leave me very cold

a huge improvement and a huge step back at the same time

but yes, i can agree with all f you stating the commercial value here
hope Yvan will change this cross-eyed feeling one gets from the recent Gucci collections (but oh do they sell like hot bread..)

I LOOOOOVE all the bags and shoes (not the flats.. i think they are just not gucci enough hehehe)

I like a few of the dresses. The colors are pretty. But WWD sure doesn't like it. Talk about a dis!
Gucci
The Milan malaise — it’s been the topic of the week. Everybody knows that except for Prada, trends do not start here, nor does anything resembling new talent stop here for any length of time. At its best, Milan boasts other strengths — beautiful, approachable, still-interesting clothes and exquisite manufacturing.

Unfortunately, midway through the collections here, they have been in scant supply. Case in point: Gucci, where on Wednesday Frida Giannini showed an inexplicable collection.

At this point, Gucci’s era of high influence is long gone, replaced by a calmer aura all the way around, except for the numbers, which just keep soaring. There’s nothing wrong with Giannini’s runway supporting the reality that Gucci is, first and foremost, not a hotbed for trends, but a major commercial gold mine bringing chic to the tony masses. Only, the clothes Giannini showed were anything but a commercial juggernaut. They played like a joust between silvery Courrèges space chicks and Eastern European majorettes, jacketed, caped and outlined in patent purple and red. Huh? Even the scores of printed baby-doll dresses could only look not silly on models -— a notoriously unreliable market.

What is Gucci today? A little jacket over tight pants? A loud print slapped onto every possible garment? Shoes with hardware? Those motifs, even when attractive, hardly make a fashion image. Then again, maybe it doesn’t matter. Perhaps the cash cow that is Gucci will ultimately put the lie to the truism about a strong fashion identity fueling the best of accessories machines.

For now, however, it’s hard to imagine this collection fueling anything but dismay.

 I really don't see what wwd is talking about...the collection looks great to me!
This is probably the first Giannini collection I've liked. The other two were flat-out dissappointing. I adore the white dress on Stam (for some reason I find myself saying that everytime a new show comes out... I wonder if it's the clothes or her :p ).

Maybe it is because I am so used to seeing bad collections from Gucci that I like this one. But I like it. I may go as far as to say this is GOOD! But let's not jump the gun quite yet.

i can so appreciate the wwd review, very on the point

thanks for bringing it here before i even logged in wwd :)

The colors SO reminds me of Louis Vuitton S/S 06. Mediocre...The dress looked like a potato sack painted upon.

a lot of good pieces and the color palette's well combined. i feel though that this is a transitional collection. nothing concrete yet (i don't really see this as gucci) but it seems to be heading in a good direction. i like it though. better than the recent ones.

So tired of prints...I am just not a fan of colorful prints...I like color but hate prints done by Giannini...kind of off topic but her hair always annoys the hell out of me...:ninja:

Totally luving WWD review!! Spot on!

Plus how do we know if Gucci is really not making any losses since Tom left? Does their sales figure verify by some independent sources?

This is a very beautiful collection, but am I the only one who finds it bit un-Gucci? When I think Gucci, I think sexy... and I'm not feeling that anymore.

If this where just Frida, or if it where for some other brand, I would find it perfect. I just don't think that it's Gucci.

^^i'm not sure i understand your question juice major, but I'm guessing that they don't make alot of their money from their clothes and more from their accessories and perfumes.

I agree with those who've said wwd is on the mark. Yes, we all know that since Giannini started she's made easy to sell clothes that appeal to the young and cool girl market, as opposed to Ford and Faccinetti's high drama, very specific designs.

But she's sacraficed Gucci having an image, even a different one from the one Tom orchestrated. So while the clothes may be cute, fun and wearable, Gucci has definitly lost a lot of it's trendsetting monopoly.

the colors are exactly the same as last season - reds, maroons, purples, blacks and whites. For me there is no departure from the last collection and I am very disappointed. I thought she was going to do something sexy for summer but she didnt - some of the peices are very miu miu i.e. the 60's short pattern dress. its NOT Gucci at all. I don't like it.
