Gucci S/S 07 Milan

Better than last season, but I still think Frida doesn't bring a distinctive identity to Gucci anymore, everything looks like a mix bowl of Prada, Vuitton, Versace, Pucci, Etro...

it's definitely better than the previous collections, and it's consistent. it's really not my cup of tea but I LOVE all the short dresses. The hem lines are rising! It's great. Show more legs please!:woot:

love the collection very nice done, love the colors paisly and flowerprints it all looks very sexy but not trashy......

I totally see vuitton, miu miu and other "influences" in this collection. But at the same time I feel there's a real freshness in this that makes me like it alot. I don't care if we've seen some of it before, because I don't think we've seen it this light or fresh before. I'm a big fan.

i think it is a "collection" that works, its not me, i like babydolls but not patterns but some of the cuts are flattering and pretty patterns although i dont wear patterns, but yeah not me except for those gladiator heels, but still nice

color theory

The colors could have been developed just a bit more, they're way too saturated on some of the trims, it's overpowering and a little too naive. It would have been to Gucci's credit if the hodge podge had been decidedly so but it just seems ill thought out and not as fun as, say, the color story from Vuitton last season or even how Prada played with her tones this season. Nonetheless, the red ruffle babydoll is GorgeouS, the swimsuits are knock out, those pieces should have been the point of departure...

i think wwd is underestimating thsi collection. i think it falls right in with Gucci--- jsut a more femme version. honeslty--i am tired of all the hardlined, hyper sexed, masculine clothes that Gucci had for so long. that crap got TIRED. this is whimsical, flirty--but still very much-- Gucci. it will just take some time for peopel to get used to a gucci headed by a woman--that shows it. the only other colection i loved was the fall one from 2005 with all the indian influences---cuz it was feminine. i am really tired of boys designing clothes for 'women' /men

wow, i really like most of the stuff. i am not really feeling the long dresses, but the short dresses, especially on Jessica Stam (she got to wear the best stuff this season, let me tell u) with those purple and raspberry things on it - really nice. Nice shapes, nice color palette (really nice, the best part of the collection), great styling. Not crazy about the accessories, especially the shoes.
I think it's one of the best Gucci collections... much better than what i've seen so far.
Grade A-

I find it amusing when people complain that they can't find a distinct inspiration for the show. What's wrong with being folk and sixties at the same time? If the show was pure folk it would be horribly unoriginal and ugly, it'll be the same if it was pure sixties too. Fashion is about creativity, mixing and matching things you thought would never fit together, sounding wrong but looking terrificly gorgeous! Frida scored for Gucci!

i agree! oh and those bags are a fright--- she needs a better accesories designer

what a hideous collection...
hate the colors, hate the shapes, hate everything in this collection
even the accessories are horrid

^ Interesting you say that gia, since she was the accessories director until Alessandra Faccinetti left in 2005.

I don't think people are complaining because the influences are so unrelated, it's more that the mixing wasn't well executed. Folksy prints and 80s graphic trims don't have to have anything to do with each other to work, but a good designer would have pulled it off without it looking odd or out of place.

I think some people are being a little harsh. That WWd review sucked. What? Do they think Tom Ford is gonna pop up and start designing for the house again. Please!! Get over yourself people. I know how Gucci started but Sometimes things need to change because the frankly the whole sex thing got old.

I just feel saturated by the 70's vibe and I don't like seeing it repeated on another catwalk , yet another season...

To me this looks like it has been designed by Rachel Zoe for her clients and I can see the Hollywood starlets wearing this head to toe...

what is more, I think that this is a too literal take on the 70's folk... way too literal...

I agree with you Djavanjmiles. The sex thing is getting too old and people are being too harsh. The WWD review is nonsensical. I felt that is was perfectly esecuted.

Ok... just saw the whole thing on style.com... it's even more confusing... the short dresses are 60's inspired and the longer ones are 70's inspired with a few influences from the disco era... and obviously a lot of folklore prints...
