Gucci S/S 2006 Milan

What is this mess???? Model Raquel Zimmerman in a red and blacked striped polo type shirt...WHAAAAA?????? I understand that Gucci is in new hands now but Alessandra's first collection for the house was way better!!!!! Frida was supposed to be hailed as this great designer who would make Tom Ford look like a rookie....NO WAY!!!! GUCCI SHOULD BE BEGGING TOM FORD TO COME BACK AT THIS POINT...This collection is Gucci at its worst!!!!

This outfit looks so Tommy Hilfiger, doesn't it? Who is going to spend $500 or even $5000 on Gucci clothes which look almost the same as what you will find in JC Penny!? This girl obviously doesn't have talent, she will be fired, trust me!

Wow, not one original thing in there. Mixed prints from Vuitton s/s 05 (or any Marc by Marc collection for that matter) Long, fluted dresses direct from Rochas, preppy daywear from Michael Kors, wrap dresses courtesy of DVF, clunky heeled sandals from Prada

the first thing i thought of when i saw the mixed floral prints was vuitton s/s 05...there are way too many mixes in there (rugby striped polos?...c'mon!)...

i did love tom ford's gucci, and i know the house needs to evolve, but this seems too much in the girlie direction...the gucci woman will always be sexy to me...

i'm anxious to read the press' take on this collection...

It's really not bad. All these people clamoring for Tom Ford... The Tom Ford era is over, much like the Versace era is over. It's gone. Forget it. I like that she can admit that to herself and found a way to do something new at Gucci, rather than trying to bring back or reinterpret what Tom what done. That was obviously unsuccessful and I appreciate this new approach. It's not without its flaws but at least there isn't a stitch of beige satin or feathers in this collection! Good for her to move out of Tom's shadow.

From YAHOO - http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050928/ap_en_ot/italy_fashion;_ylt=ApZSaBpaqvAMe0hzpOVQLeBxFb8C;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl

Here is the Gucci bit.

Gucci's Frida Giannini had nowhere to go but forward. Wednesday evening marked the young Roman's first show for the house that has been searching for the right designer since Tom Ford's huffy departure last year.

The overall look was fresh and feminine. For daytime, Giannini favored jackets with a hint of puff at the shoulder over slim pants cropped at the ankle to reveal patent leather boots.

The cocktail hour came in a series of dresses in monochrome or printed silk, with a V neckline that goes straight to the waist and has a matching V in the back. The floor-length evening wear favored the same geometric cutout.

The new Gucci footwear includes a high-heeled ankle-strapped platform sandal in green suede, reminiscent of a style favored by Karl Lagerfeld, longtime designer for Fendi, where Giannini took her first fashion steps.

"I have worked very hard, slept very little, and now we shall see," Giannini said on the eve of the show. The warm round of applause from the crowd at the end of the 15-minute presentation, bodes well for the future.

for all those who say that frida needed to move out of tom ford's shadow and so had to move in a new direction: she could have done it in a much MUCH better way.

stefano pilati took ysl into his own hands and took it in a different direction than tom ford, but I personally loved what he did with it and now ysl is one of the top houses imo..

i feel that those clamoring for tom ford aren't being petulant and holding onto an era that's no longer present - if frida had done a good gucci collection, then that would have been great for her and gucci fans. but the fact that she's trying to get away from tom ford's shadow by stepping into the shadow and using the designs of 10 other houses isn't impressive or creative at all :innocent:

Is it just me or does thing scream SS 2005 Louis Vuitton? The runway looks like it...I predict a press release saying....Frida is out....who's in?!

I definitly understand the need for a designer to move out of Tom's shadow, which in her last collection I though Alessandra began to do. Let's face it, no one can do Tom Ford as well as Tom Ford, but you also have to remain true to the house's legacy (which, incidentally is what so many held against Ford while at YSL)

So while Alessandra may have been borrowing too much from Ford's vocabulary, Frida is clearly attempting to turn Gucci into something else entirely. People who like Gucci don't like it for rugby stripes and mixed florals. There is a formula that a designer can stick to without regurgitating the past. Gucci is urbane, luxurious, slick, glamourous......

My point is, a designer can stay true to a house without ripping off it's past.....Giannini just doesn't seem to want to. Except, rather than ripping off Gucci's past, she's ripping off every other big designer's.

Head's up kids, the whole thing's up at Elle.com and it's terrible.

^ I personally think the whole luxurious, slick, glamorous thing looks very dated now and very '90s. That's why Facchinetti was unsuccessful--she kept pushing the same old, same old while the rest of the world had moved on big time. It may be the Gucci identity, but that identity is out of fashion. It's the same issue that makes reviving Versace so difficult. How can you rebuild a brand when its very essence is out of style?

^ I see your point, and it's a very good point at that. I say update it, of course, try some new things, expand the image...don't just go in and try to change it entirely. You've got to evolve, not force a change.

I may sound sexist but ladies don't take it the wrong way, your all beautiful and i love you. However, you can't leave a young woman to do a great man's work. Just as you can't leave a young man to do a great womans work. I just miss Tom.

if i could yawn any bigger i'd inhale the monitor

I'm actually going into a severe onset of depression  . I know that they had to move away from Tom Fords stuff, but what the hell? Gucci is supposed to be sexy, chic and glamorous... half of this stuff looks like I could find it down the road for twenty bucks at Vinnies... well anyway, for those who want to see the tragic collection, pics from vogue.com.au
