Hedi Slimane leaves Dior Homme

i agree. follow me and victim of the crime are my two favorite dior homme collections as well. easily the best hedi has ever done. as far as hedi leaving dior, i think these rumors have been blown out of proportion. dior takes quite good care of hedi and i highly doubt he's interested in leaving. the same goes for pilati at ysl.

Seriously, look online and you will find a lot of pieces from those years on sale and you will quickly see why they never sold. They were great collections but some of the pieces....no thanks.

Follow Me and VOTC are my all time favorite collections from any labels, especially DH if you want to know where I stand.

I haven´t seen a lot of these pieces online, on Ebay or elsewhere, yet at the same time, as the label was wider distributed, more and more pieces from recent collections could be found online. the pieces that you usually find online are those that are neither highlights, nor staples/basics - that is, t-shirts with printworks, dress shirts, ocassionally a sports jacket and classic suits. It is usually the case that particular stuff always sells, such as the infamous "Napoleon" jacket, the tuxedo with wolves-embroidery in the back, the pink leather blazer or the black Hussar jacket from this season.

I think Dior is still somehat in the transition phase - they are slowly building up their "commercial" vocabulary (that is, anything grunge-y in between A/W 2004 - S/S 2006 - jeans, jersey, easy leather jackets in terms of RTW, as well as sneakers, leather goods and accessories), whereas the show collection is going to be more experimental, as seen with F/W 2006. Of course they could never afford producing a collection that is solely build around catwalk imaging, who cares though, as long as there are commercial pieces to be found in the showroom?

Bluefly had a a few pieces from luster and strip that frankly were quite atrocious. With all the zippers, lustrous fabrics, and mesh, it blurred into the realm of International Male catalog.

So any news about this ?

Does anyboydy know wether Slimane stays or leaves Dior ??

Thanks

Why Not Bring Back Monsieur Saint Laurent ??

:lol:hahaha...this must be the most stupid rumour i've ever heard:lol:

:heart:Pilati is the best:heart: no one can take his place, deffinetily not Mr Slimane

dunno if pilati can sustain.......but i do agree that slimane is not the one.....WHY NOT BRING BACK MONSIEUR SAINT LAURENT ??? !!!:ninja: B) B)

tom ford was the best...when the cat is away the mice will play

so here's my deduction:

slimane gave a whole identity to dior homme
karl lagerfeld loves slimane
slimane might be leaving dior
karl is definetly not leaving chanel
chanel menswear is bigger everyseason
slimane takes over chanel menswear finally creating A collection and not jsut some pieces like karl does now...
when karl leaves some day (lets jsut wish this will never happen) hedi takes over chanel women too...

this might make sense!! i'd love this to happen!!

i'm not much into menswear, but the three shows i always do pay attention to are dior, ysl (tom ford was amazing, but pilati is so classy), and givenchy
^ i would much rather see hedi at chanel. ysl is fine the way it is right now

Oh please no.

I cant stand Dior Homme or what Hedi does as a designer. I Love Love what Pilati has done for YSL menswear especially.

Here is my theory (pieced together largely due to the recent book about Lagerfeld) :

Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld have engaged in a rivalry ever since they both were awarded prizes at the Wool Sectratariot in 1955. Yves St Laurent launched into huge success immediately after, going on to design for Dior and then starting his own line. Karl Lagerfeld never quite established the same allure with a namesake label, he only designed for Fendi and Chloe. YSL's success was taken in with heavy partying while Karl's drug and alcohol kept to a modest level. Fast forward to the 80's when Lagerfeld makes his move and takes over Chanel after "Coco" Chanel herself had publicly named YSL as her successor. Lagerfeld in some ways has been sporting a stolen crown for all these years. This was crushing to YSL.

Fast forward again to the mid 90's when YSL discovers an immense talent and hires him to take over menswear, Hedi Slimane. With Alber Elbaz and Hedi in charge of his legacy he is able to slowly and eventually retire from the fashion world. In some ways you could view Alber and Hedi as YSL's heirs, Hedi especially. Althogh Hedi left YSL and then ended up at Dior he still maintained the support of YSl and inherited his famous circle of friends. Lagerfeld interesting enough also befriended Hedi and the two's relationship has gained more noteriety than Hedi and YSL's.

Fast forward to now. YSL's health is failing fast and to be frank, probably doesn't have much years left. Lagerfeld is not only at the top of his game (at least the media thinks so) but is thinner than ever and enjoying a thriving career. Hedi Slimane, YSL's successor, is about to reclaim Chanel for him but it will be all due to Lagerfeld.

It's all dumb speculation and I've read too many sensationalists novels but it is entertaining to consider.

Another way to read it is that Slimane has been using Lagerfeld in order to get to Chanel.

Or maybe all of it is bullcrap and shouldn't be overthought.

'Bears to stop s---ing in the woods' - unless I missed something, I think we've established that this isn't happening.

I haven't heard anything about Hedi leaving Dior but in this day and age you never really know anything (even if WWD confirms it).

I thought forever ago that Lagerfeld wants Hedi for Chanel, maybe. And I knew about the drama between YSL and LAG but I never made the connection with homeboy in the middle. Very interesting indeed. With all the pretty boys in the world, you'd think one of them would just pimp it up and get them someone else but nooooo...what's mine is mine, what's yours is mine

I DEFINATLEY AGREE Hedi Silmane is a horrible menswear designer(I hope Benard Arnault Fires Him) Dior Homme has no Pazazz or Glam to that label.. I think the best Dior Homme Collection in my eyes is the 2000 F/W when Gianfranco Ferre designed it they need to bring him back to Dior! Or Let John Richmond or Galliano Do the mensline Im still waiting on my J'Adore Dior Tshirt in mens medium hahaha Pilati is a Excellent Designer for YSL I love his stuff.

I actually really liked Hedi's work at YSL, I thought he was a better fit there. I think it was also...music based, it seems he designs from the ears. But it was a lot more varied, more ecclectic, certanly more warm and sensual and adult. Which isn't to say that D. Homme isn't. It's just very successful and that brings its own unexpected confines. YSL now is too bougie though I like the tunics for next season. But that's just because they're, you know, tunics. Weird!

WHAT? He had absolutely NO respect for the YSL legacy ... twas totally TOM FORD doing YSL ... Eeee-w!

I think Hedi should leave Dior. He isn't going anywhere there, they're just using him as a rubber stamp on medicore clothing these days. He should definitely start his own label and start designing again. If KVA can get fat cat backers, then I certainly think Hedi can get the fattest cats behind him.

^yup..as much as i dont like the thought of him leaving..i think he should
i would be quite dissapointed if he does end up in some other house...i think he has got enough oomph to make it on his own..no need to be a fashion gypsy

but than again..the thought of hedi at chanel is quite tempting
