yeah- it's high...but it's doable...
i am so glad i didn't get it overseas...
it was all the mid range contemporary stuff that was completely impossibly priced with the exchange rate....
they are charging the same amount of $$$ as pounds...
which is really crazy...
i wouldn't buy any of it..
but it means the europeans are getting things really cheap whey they come here...
which explains why i barely hear any english spoken in soho these days!!!......

as far as whether you should shorten it...
that is totally up to you...
it's just my thing...
i know what length works on me and looks best for me...
and shorter is often better for me in the case of a 'smock' style dress...
especially with an ankle boot...
with a longer length...i tend to wear a taller boot...

so-
i guess that if you break it down...
i have a general rule...(which i didn't even realize and which i don't follow religiously)

short boot>>short dress
long boot>>long dress

short and long being relative terms of course...
i don't know...it just works for me somehow...


you should do whatever you feel comfortable with...

softgrey - thanks for the tips of skirt length + ankle boots. I completely see what you mean, since the ankle boot tend to make your legs look thicker, a shorter skirt is needed. Shortening dress would make it look cuter, but then I would feel inappropriate wearing it to work (casual but male-dominated environment). Short really is relative! I think I will have to explore other shoe options

my things arent isabel marant (unfortunately) but i bought a fairly similar denim tunic and some black gumboots a month or so ago...
now that ive seen that impulse pic i have some styling inspiration...

Tried on the dress version of that denim tunic in #46 in Paris. Didn't work on me at all--the length was oddly short and the shoulders were cut super narrow. I would say it looks best on someone with more sloping shoulders and longer legs...like softie and adorefaith maybe?

It was glorious, thank you very much! I am suffering from serious depression and withdrawal right now, especially since my boyfriend had to leave on a business trip at 5 this morning.

I did indeed make some Isabel Marant purchases....nothing that I've seen in the U.S. though. I will post the details later....too jet lagged now.

I also tried on that blouse that everyone got, but because I have square shoulders and a very narrow torso, I looked like a big block in it! Looks gorgeous on you though, softie. I checked everywhere for the little fishie (well, 4 different places ), but no one had it. There were lots of other pretty trinkets, but nothing caught my eye in the same way.....

ps. juliet, saw tons of parisian girls wearing your booties with lightweight skirts and drop waist dresses...so cute! I wouldn't worry about wearing them so much...it seems they look great when they get a bit trashed.

I'm sure it would look great on you, soft. Just to be clear though--it wasn't so much too short as it just hit at an awkward point above my knee...I would definitely find out the exact measurement of the length and shoulder span before ordering it. I am almost always a 0 or 1 in IM, but the shoulders of the 1 were really tiny on me.

OT, but just above the knee seems to be the skirt length favored in Paris...classic but coquettish, I guess.

I just got a few thing but I really love them...all quite simple, actually. It's funny how being in Paris and seeing so much IM worn on the streets gives you a different perspective on the pieces....I'm sure you know what I mean.

^^^ glad to hear it. I got my boots zipsoled and have been wearing them out quite frequently. I am still trying to find the perfect skirt. I want flouncy and light made with wool. If anyone has any good ideas...

I agree that the sizing is VERY unpredictable. In general, it seems like the A-line shaped stuff is proportioned exceedingly generously all over; whereas the straight-cut tops and dresses are quite snug in the hips. But even that can be inconsistent--the denim dress is size 1 was tiny, but I was swimming in a narrow cut black skirt I tried on in size 2. I really think the only way to be certain is to try things on in person or at least, get the measurements and compare them to something you already own.

No, not at all actually. (Although seeing it smushed in next to Diesel at Galeries Lafayette was a bit odd ) The two boutiques I went to were beautifully laid out--lots of selection, without giving you the sense that everything is being produced in mass quantities. It was more just seeing what the women in Paris were wearing and noticing what was different from New York....for example, I saw a lot more sleek silhouettes, and fewer of the voluminous sack-type styles that have been more popular here....so I wound up being more drawn to the slimmer cut skirts and tops, which actually suit me a bit better anyway.

I'm charging my camera now, so I should be able to take some pics this afternoon.
