I love it! The presentation, the clothes, the whole vibe......fabulous!

Fantastic show!!! Although the first impression reminds me of JPG from long time ago, but well, good ideas can be used again and again, I believe. Don't wanna talk about the theatric result on stage, but wanna talk about the clothes. I think since the last collection, which John had traced all the way back to the original idea of making a collection (not a show) from his hey days 90s. Clothes in S/S 06 shows are all very very Galliano and better than his Dior "nude" show, I love every single piece from the show, all the womanly bias cut fuschia dresses in particular. One knows where to get if they wanna have some great dresses last forever.

A freak-show theme?

freak show indeed...
even though i like his efford to apply his clothes to all possible body sizes and ages i find this prsentation slightly disturbing and somehow rude to 'body size minorities'

presentation issues apart, some pieces are really exceptional

eta: yes, definetly some JPG references to the core idea of the show but JPG was far more elegant in 'playing' with 'extreme' body types..

i adore the Quentin Crisp refference

curious to know what exactly offended you, or are you for the theory that such people should be hidden from the mean public?:innocent:

Hmm... somehow I don't see this as a celebration of life and diversity. It's a little sick and offensive, in my opinion. But I won't say more until I see the entire thing.

amazing clothes and amazing show, but i think he kind of overdid it.

wow, very Twin Peaks kind of freaky :ninja: I love it!

and I adore Gemma's puppet !! Wonder if she could take it home

In the first few pictures it looked like it was just going to be a show of midgets and freaks, which would naturally be a little upsetting and offensive to most people. But as it went on I saw that the theme was more "people from all walks of life" and not "oh look at these freaks". I'm not sure what you mean with your other comment. No, I don't think these people should be hidden from the public. I also don't think they should be paraded down a catwalk to indulge some weirdo's fashion fantasy. Galliano is really the queen of othering and Orientalization.

For me it is that these people ARE hidden away from the public and that "celebrating" them...more like exploiting them for a fashion show spectacle seems a bit degrading. The clothing is obviously reminiscent of the era where such people were put on show as freaks and amusements and it's pretty much the same thing happening here. If Galliano really was celebrating the variety and differences in people he wouldn't present them as fashion show freaks in the process. Also his flair for exoticism (something discussed on this board before) is taken right out of a 1920's rascist cartoon with where some ethnic group is reduced to savages and their features over exaggerated.

This reminds me of the work of Diane Arbus who photographed many different people including dwarfs, the mentally challenged, and people with giantism. She would refer to them as "freaks" and portrayed them in less than flattering (and truthful) ways. Galliano hasn't allowed those people to be REAL people on that runway. Instead they have become even more "freaked" out and removed from our awareness...he's made them characters to laugh at not people to empathize with.

that's just my two cents.

Thank you, Mutterlein for better explaining what I was trying to get at. Not a fan of Arbus either, but that's a different story.

i think it will be most perfect collection among this paris season if the clothes were put on the real models

It kind of looks like the circus in the movie big fish! I like it!:)
