Jolie and Pitt, with 'Heart'

My mum is fond of telling me this story ..

When I was about 4, we were in a cafe and my mum wanted to point out something to me about this african lady who was sitting in a table across the way. There were two women sitting there, one was african and one was caucasian. I didn't know which one she was talking about. So I asked "is it the lady with the yellow scarf?". It's funny how as a child, skin colour doesn't even matter.

Yeah, too bad we loose that. I hate kids, but I'll admit they do get something right.

OT, but Middle Easterns are Caucasoids.
i really don't agree. most al my middel eastern firend look like they are part black or are south american. my one persian friend is constantly mistaken for a brazilian---

^ What's a Brazilian look like? That's like saying someone looks American. They're both nationalities with peoples of transplanted cultures/races. There is no definitive look to either.

The Caucasoid race is a term used by some physical anthropologists often define Caucasoid to describe people indigenous to an area including Europe, South Asia, Middle East, North Africa, and certain areas of Central Asia.

more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caucasoid
You forgot to include this quote from wikipedia:
One undergraduate anthropology textbook states: "Races are the products of the past. They are relics of times and conditions which have long ceased to exist."[3] Race and subspecies have become synonymous to each other in many definitions.
and this disclaimer:

You might also want to check out the American Anthropological Association's statement on race (which should be pinned somewhere on tFS so we can conclude making comments that totally belie current thought on the subject of race) which includes this quote:
The continued sharing of genetic materials has maintained all of humankind as a single species. Physical variations in any given trait tend to occur gradually rather than abruptly over geographic areas. And because physical traits are inherited independently of one another, knowing the range of one trait does not predict the presence of others. For example, skin color varies largely from light in the temperate areas in the north to dark in the tropical areas in the south; its intensity is not related to nose shape or hair texture. Dark skin may be associated with frizzy or kinky hair or curly or wavy or straight hair, all of which are found among different indigenous peoples in tropical regions. These facts render any attempt to establish lines of division among biological populations both arbitrary and subjective.
and this
"Race" thus evolved as a worldview, a body of prejudgments that distorts our ideas about human differences and group behavior. Racial beliefs constitute myths about the diversity in the human species and about the abilities and behavior of people homogenized into "racial" categories. The myths fused behavior and physical features together in the public mind, impeding our comprehension of both biological variations and cultural behavior, implying that both are genetically determined. Racial myths bear no relationship to the reality of human capabilities or behavior. Scientists today find that reliance on such folk beliefs about human differences in research has led to countless errors.

My mother is part Syrian and I can assure you we are not "Caucasoids". Well I myself don't. Most of them consider themselves as "other".

Man, I could use me a little caucasoid right now. Which reminds me of a Tony Millionaire "Maakies" cartoon: beneath racist little sketches, he had the names "Negroid", "Caucasoid", "Mongoloid", and "Leprechoid"--yes, your stereotypical Irish leprechaun. Kinda like the O'Grady Plumbing guy for a San Francisco reference. I always see O'Grady on the side of his van, objectifying himself.

I best not see Jolie playing no Leprechoid.:innocent:

i was gonna have some mongoloid barbecue beef for dinner but I thought it might make me have to go caucasoid and give me a pain in my negroid. :p

i think its crazy to split all peopels in the world into three groups. i think the indian subcontinent is big enough , that it deserves its own category--- i think many indians would be disturbed if htey knew popel thought they fell into the category of europeans visually--their hair is different, their faces tend to look different. its just ridiculous. i am black and i have been mistaken for north african all the time---i could never be "white". races are not so clear cut. and obviously--angelina transformed pretty well--so what is the issue??? she does more , it seems, to assist the plight of africans than many black celebrities. and when people mentioned thandie and gloria reuben--its like--they don't look anymroe like marianne pearl than angelina-- jsut becasue two poeple are technically "biracial", doesn't mean they look anything alike--- chanel iman and amerie are both koren/black---coudl they ever pass for each other???

LMAO you crack me up.

OT but I found this crap on Wiki pretty interesting. Sorry I couldn't resist.

[/quote]
The data suggest that the male Somali population is a branch of the East African population − closely related to the Oromos in Ethiopia and North Kenya − with predominant E3b1 cluster lineages that were introduced into the Somali population 4000−5000 years ago, and that the Somali male population has approximately 15% Y chromosomes from Eurasia and approximately 5% from sub-Saharan Africa.[4] Generally, it is believed that most population movements involve male invaders and an indigenous Somali population, of the same general type as the Ethiopid may been established millennia ago with distinct characteristics that link them to all of their neighbors. This data points towards moderate paternal contributions from genetical Eurasian populations, most likely those of Arabian and North African origin. Genetic studies also show that there are not any substantial genetic variations between the Amhara of Ethiopia and their Cushitic neighbors, which, if the Semitic branch did not originate in the Horn of Africa, suggests substantial lingustic replacement rather than a large mass invasion from Arabia or elsewhere as an explanation for the languages of the Amhara and other Semitic-speaking peoples in Ethiopia. Overall, the Somalis genetically cluster with their neighbors in the Horn of Africa and represent a unique sub-group of the region. This examines that Somali people, and those in Horn of Africa are not of the negroid race.[5]
The East African people (i.e. in Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Somalia) may also be the last remnants of the
Ancient Egyptians based on hieroglyphics of Egyptians depicting themselves having "reddish brown" skin, something Somalis exhibit in varying hues.[6]

Uh huh wiki, keep on dreaming and lying to yourself. Looks pretty black to me.

what was the topic again...?

I think it had something to do with Angelina Jolie portraying a black woman, or a half-black woman, or a half-African American/half-white woman, or a half-African American/half-caucasian woman, or a a half Haitian-American/ half-caucasian woman, though if she's Haitian, she's likely got some Taino/Arawak Indian in there somewhere, too. Um, Native American, feather not dot.

Did anyone mention the "one drop rule"? That'll bring us right back on topic, and cheerfully, to boot.

^^

One drop of black blood means you're black ( ) and judging from her lips, Angelina's got at least a drop (but maybe we should check the vial that was formerly hanging around Billy Bob's neck because she might have lost it there), and if she does have that one drop then maybe it's okay that she's playing an afro caribbean woman who seems to be very comfortable with people identifying her as white.

Speaking of origins, I read somewhere that practically everyone in the world is related in some way to English royalty. Or some sort of royalty.

Either way, call me Princess, baby! B)

I actually agree with the one drop(That's the way I've been taught). Anyway if she has some in her, then oops excuse my silly ***. The same goes for me with miss Lima. But that's just me..
