Kanye West S/S 2012 Paris

love what im seeing- people in this thread find any reason to hate. it's modern & clean, the fur is such a defiant move on kanye's part- it's an accurate translation of his attitude- he does what he wants. even if it's fur in the spring.

the collection is modern, well conceptualized & a damn good effort for a first season.

most of the critics were not happy with the fitting TBH i always thought Paris was the last remaining exclusive fashion city but with celebrity takeover who knows who will be next. I love the shoes and the styling of the show though

Definitely some OVERT references here. (Celine & Balmain very overt)

What is the deal? Now we have Gwen Stefani, Puff Daddy, Beyonce and Kanye designing. Am I missing anyone? Do all rock/pop/rap stars think they have an inner designer? On the flip side, do we have any designers cutting records? Not that I can think of.

So what is with the rock-star-cum-designer thang? I am curious.

This collection isn't as horrid as the Beyonce one imo, but it is so derivative, which may be the (partial) explanation.

ANYhow..,

It's like a very cheap Celine. It could've been way worse, however.

This is nowhere near as bad as people are making it out to be. If no one knew it was designed by Kanye it would probably be getting some faint praise for not being run-of-the-mill.

Obviously people are gonna bash Kanye but that is nothing new....even the most acclaimed designers get harsh critique. However, this is his FIRST collection and it isn't too bad at all....i think he came correctly in places but also missed the mark in others. He will learn and there is room for growth!

What i don't like however is people who are super quick to bash the line and label it "ghetto"

Excuse me, I had to go without my beloved Louise Goldin show for this???
But if you get Katy Eary, Louise Goldin, Guiseppe Zanotti and god knows who, how the hell could you come up with this?
But I think the worst thing in this collection are not the clothes - it's the styling. It's badly styled with bad hair. Could've been much better presented with a better stylist. He should get rid of this Hapers Bazaar Australia woman.

but it isnt original... every designer he has probably worn in the past year is in this collection. Alexander Wang, Celine, Calvin Klein, Balenciaga, and Balmain are all referenced a little too much. Plus, unless his intention was to make the models legs all look bigger, the pants fit horribly

i only enjoy this look, and it's for the styling

i like..... the embroidery? which is very pretty.

else.... idk, this looks so blah. i can't even imagine what his 'design' process must look like.

It's not that bad, seriously. There are some cute ideas but the fit is just embarrassingly awful. All and all it's average, a lot of hype and hot air. We've seen way way worse this season. And compared to other celebrity collections it's a blatant succes, remember Lyndsey's trainwreck, or House of Diarea?

The Row is still there...

it's terrible because it's not original and it's not even done well. nothing fits and it all looks so cheap. it's actually really tame but rather boring than what i was expecting (i expected something out there and frankly gimmicky-- that would have been more interesting).

i don't think (or maybe i'm in the wrong) that anyone is taking him seriously.. except himself. if he wants to be a designer, he needs a vision that is his (which he has for his music though sometimes it's a basic copy of other artist's work).

and come on, i think most of the members here know or have a well enough eye for fashion that saying because someone dislikes a collection is a "hater" is kind of insulting.

I agree, it certainly not worse than other shows this season, his biggest mistake was to not have well-made clothes. I could forgive some of the design if it were at least well constructed.

I think he was a little pretentious to think that he could show this in Paris, if this had been in NYFW I think people wouldn't bash as much. I think people had high expectations since it's being shown in Paris and he didn't live up to that.

I do however love that coral dress on Jourdan with the zippers

Today the official show invites to the first Kanye West fashion show have been send out. It looks like the collection will be called ‘Dw Kanye West’. At this point we can only assume that ‘Dw’ is a hint as his mother, Donda West, but cannot confirm that at this point. We are very curious to see the first collection, which Kanye West supposedly created in collaboration with Louise Goldin and Riccardo Tisci from Givenchy.
