Alexander McQueen S/S 2012 Paris

I TOTALLY AGREE!!!! she is a completely different woman with a completely different aesthetic..

Then she shouldn't be designing for Alexander McQueen.

Sarah did an amazing job. I couldn't see anyone else taking over his reign better than his right hand gal.

Brilliant. the structure, the details, the colours; just perfection. Even if it was like last season its better than being worse.

Lee is extremely missed. The line itself isn't progressing. It feels like Sarah is going back to what Lee/the line used to be, not what it should be. Innovative/shocking/new!

I loved Lee McQueen and especially his work. He was a wonderful artist and desginer. ONE OF A KIND.

However, I nevertheless appreciate Sarah's work; yes, she does do some feminine looks that aren't my personal favorites. Yes, I'd like to see a little more darkness, and a little more street edge translated up. Yes, I hope she doesn't get comfortable, that she continues to evolve and push the edges, mixing things up, varying her aesthetic. And yeah, more pants/suits too.

Still this collection is no "sell out" in my opinion. There are saleable things, for sure. However, there are still some looks here that push at the boundaries of fetishism, satire, and pure art, that show her ability to go to places Lee would. Let's hope she moves into those more dangerous/artistic directions going forward, instead of the way of commerce. The powers-that-be will be pushing on her. Hope she holds onto her inner renegade, the one she must've shared with Lee those years they worked side-by-side.

For now, these make me melt and give me hope - go Sarah!

I know it's 'same old same old' but i like this kind of 'same old same old' rather than Chanel-kind of 'same old same old'

. it's beyond beautiful, i love the shape, the colors, the craftmanship is on another galaxy. Marchesa wishes....

I wish she'd start moving forward. Lee's greatest asset was his surprises.

I will only say this is not modern at all. Alexander offered modern pieces on every collection. Besides being a constant déjà vu this looks totally outdated. Yeah, the dresses are beautiful so what? There's nothing else beyond that.

Sarah stated since the first collection she will soften the sharp silhouette which was a bad decision because it was probably one of the elements that gave McQ such a modern vibe.

I wont even talk on how flat the show is. I think this would look 100 times better on a dark stage. McQueen knew its all about on how you sell it and she is just too bright... and flat.

I knew things werent going to work out since the collection stopped having names. There's nothing to tell in here.

Oh, and just because a dress has a magnificient craftsmanship doesnt mean it has to be beautiful.

As expected, more of the same beautifully decorated fluffy dresses and skirtsuits with gorgeous headwear. Where is the risk element, the insanely cut, tailored pieces? The narration is still not quite there. I think Sarah has proven she got the skills to carry on McQueen's legacy. She needs to push it further

Spring and summer? Some of this stuff looks like fall. I don't know what to say and maybe she needs more time to develop a viewpoint.

there are some amazing looks that must be said but some parts of the collections are quite "expected". In general like it however

Everything I needed and more! Beautiful! Sarah is the perfect fit for McQueen! No other designer can do what she does -- to continue Lee`s legacy

Sarah sure made the label more accessible, easier to wear for women everywhere and not just women like Daphne Guinness. and while i really love this collection, i would also like to see her inject something new into McQueen. maybe she can't do dark cause she's not a tortured soul like Alexander was?

and i'm surprised by how many people started to call him 'Lee' now. what were you, bffs of his when he was alive?

Then she shouldn't be designing for Alexander McQueen.

And why not? This idea that a designer that takes over a brand name has to pretend to be that same designer is totally absurd to me. Mcqueen the designer is dead, if his ideas could be so easily aped by another person he would not be much of a genius.

Sarah Burton is a different designer altogether, taking over a brand means she's allowed to use a lot of elements of the Mcqueen aesthetic, it does not mean she needs to start designing what in an hypothetical world if Mcqueen was alive the public believes he would be designing, or even worse simply copy some of the theatrics of past Mcqueen collections.

I think this collection is simply gorgeous, she's an amazing designer and she keeps up with the high standards set by the label, something that in my view is an herculean task that very few designers nowdays could accomplish with this class.

I like it. When I first saw the caps I thought it was imitating the guts sheep or something that been stretched out and thought that it contrasted nicely with the rest of the look.

It was a beautiful and accomplished collection, undoubtedly so.

I wonder how the brand will evolve. At the moment, the narrative seems in a state of semi-stasis - reverential to Alexander, but unable to move in a new or altered direction.

In my opinion, this is a pretty collection, but standard. She has been doing a lot of skirt-suits without doing anything to them apart from changing the fabric and embellishments.
She feels safe covering everything in embellishment instead of changing the cut and ideas, who else do we know that does this trick? (The accessory designers designing Valentino Couture).
People used to look towards McQueen and Galliano for inspiration for incredible fashion, now McQueen is dead and Galliano is fired from everywhere who is there to inspire us? Burton has diluted McQueen's legacy instead of moving it on with new ideas, and what makes me angry are people who act as if McQueen lives on through Sarah Burton and nothing much has changed.

And why not?

I COMPLETELY AGREE...why cant she. she is probably most suited to the job than any of the other designers out there.

Could you imagine the pa-lava if McQueen had drawn out the replacement as much as Dior have?

Sarah has a great team, and its the same team that McQueen had. The only difference is that she is being herself. She is feminine and her aesthetic is more womanly, but if you have ever read interviews about her, its said that she was the one to bring some of the femininity to the McQueen collections when Lee was still alive. Shes been there for 15 years, who else knows the brand better than that!?
