Alexander McQueen S/S 2012 Paris

I thought this was a great collection, but seem to be in the minority thinking this.

The detail is exceptional. No, it isn't McQueen, that's because it isn't McQueen. Nobody was McQueen but McQueen. I am amazed how well SB has stepped into the breach in the most emotionally charged circumstances I can imagine.

The suits at the beginning were a bit samey, but the rest of the collection to me seemed very strong and with a clear vision. It had bite to it with the masks, but was also feminine and had a touch of Sarah to it.

Of course this isn't as good as something McQueen would have done, but it definitely does his name justice. I think when you consider the mess some other houses are in, McQueen is in safe hands.

Anyway, I anticipate being torn to shreds in 10... 9... 8...

Actually, I won't tear you to shreds  I very much agree with what you are saying. When I saw the first looks I was a bit "oh no, this is too much a déjà-vu" but I think she developed it nicely through the collection. Me too, I agree she isn't McQueen but I really appreciate her more female approach. It's different, maybe it's not that "out of the world genius" but this is still among the very best we have seen this season. I have appreciated last season's show and I like this season's, too, and I'm curious about how she'll find her own way in the next few seasons. Very very beautiful pieces!

Why would anyone tear you to shreds???

We're all simply commenting based on our different opinions.

This collection, with its same old bodice and "wedding cake" frou frou in other colours, is another matter.

Only because I've seen plenty of arguments on Designers & Collections so was kinda bracing myself for the worst.

I too think SB is doing a great job with McQueen's heritage. She can't be McQueen but she's doing a far better job at it than say Mr. Gaytten at Galliano/Dior?

Most amazing...no. Beautiful yes. And I do agree she is doing a good job.

I also thought Sarah did a great job with taking over McQueen. But the thing is, I feel like she's not taking it further. Every collection she's done since Lee's death seems to follow the same rules and I feel like that's not what the McQueen brand is supposed to be about.
I'm not impressed by this collection at all, sadly. It's too safe and I'm really bored by seeing these tiered and ruffled dresses and gowns every season, and I almost get a Valentino vibe from some of those looks :ninja:

I think we want too much from Sarah. She's not McQueen, she's trying to carry on this label the best she can. I loved it!

I TOTALLY AGREE!!!! she is a completely different woman with a completely different aesthetic...plus....she is the opposite sex so she is bound to think and dress women differently.

If she was trying too hard to be McQueen she would get the same amount of negativity as she is getting now, saying she is not being herself, trying to imitate Lee.

She isnt him. He is gone. We have her. She is great.

Hah, how many times are we bound to see the same collection??. I'm sure it's very beautiful up close but that concept, that silhouette, even that detailing needs to go.. not even McQueen in his last years (which were very dull for me) swore by a look for so long.

I can't get over the craftsmanship, the details, the silhouettes, the level of artistry, everything! The first few looks didn't impress me that much but I fell in love with everything afterwards.

Good point. I loved the collection, just wanted more variety in terms of pieces.

It is sad when a designer is not in his house anymore
the feelings of amaze with new things of his own mind, nobody will can offer.

Humbly the new designers can try to research his creative mind,
but there is always the feeling that the spirit has gone.

In Galliano we have hope to see him again,
In McQueen, we understand why some designers are genious and others not.

wow at this collection SB definitely did McQueen justice

granted it s never gonna be the exact same level as Alexander but this is some amazing work.

It's absolutely beautiful. I'm very happy with Sarah at the helm. She gets the brand but I'm starting to want something else. McQueen isn't always about frills and corsets, dresses and gowns. Where are the pants. Do we just have to deal with only resort & prefall being wearable.
