Knitting!

You might like to check out a fairly new knitting magazine called "Knit 1." They describe it as, "[SIZE=-1]Knitting magazine targeting hip 18-35 year-old knitters."

Amy

Thank you for the link, but I''ve never really gotten into the knit1 stuff...I don't know, it's a little out there for my tastes.

This week I'm going on a SEX (stash enrichment (e)xpedition ) and I'm probably going to check out some of the Rowan patternbooks and I'm going to make a Jonathan Adler blanket knock-off.

Hi, Cutxpaste: When you wrote you were looking for any "cool" patterns, I just assumed you meant young and hip type stuff. I wouldn't exactly have associated Rowan patterns with the word "cool!" I realized when I saw Knit1's last issue that it's totally Lion brand yarn being used in their patterns. That really surprised me. The mag is an offshoot (geared to teens and 20 somethings) from Vogue Knitting, and I noted that many of the designers are the same--however, it seems to be limited exclusively to Lion yarns. I just thought that was interesting and strange... It's like an unofficial promo piece for Lion.

Well, have fun having SEX! Let us know. :innocent:

When I signed up for the Lion brand yarn mailing list, I got tons of p*rn in my email.

UGH--sorry to hear that. I'm on their mailing list, and I wasn't bombarded with unwanted mail. Guess the internet interpreted your SEX stash eXpedition literally!

Amy Louise  , you gotta be careful with crafters

cutxpaste, yes. I've had email for 10 years and that was the first time I ever had a problem like that. Now, if I want a pattern off their site, I just give a fake email address. :ninja:

I don't know what's wrong but I tried to learn knitting again. :( And I failed again. So I give up (for now). If there's anyone who can teach me up close and personal... I am forever in your debt ^_^ . B) .

*sighs*

i went to my local yarn store after abstaining from my addiction all summer....and it was like taking an achohlic into a bar on free drinks nite! there are SOOOOOOO many gorgeous yarns for fall, from rowan and so many others! i was REALLY good, and just bought one skein, but im jonesing to go back and buy more by the arm-load!!

I'd love to resurrect this thread. I've picked up my knitting again and would love to see what you are all working on. :)

im with you /\ fall is here and i am absolutely in LOVE with those chunky knit MJ hats!!!!

i was planning on doing skinny scarves again...dont know i just love scarves. hats dont look right on me

im personally trying to finish a bulky sweater i started and am really into doing hats.... i've been doing my sweater in lionsbrand chunky wool acrylic mix in charcoal grey and my hats in debby bliss cashmerino (cashmere and merino wool blend with microfiber) with handrolled hand-dyed silk velvet rosettes on the side so it looks like something one of mucha's girls would wear. i'll post pics soon.

Okay I just found this in a magazine and thought some of you knitters might be interested ^_^

If you're a dab hand with a pair of knitting needles and you'd like to do something for charity, visit www.innocentdrinks.co.uk - they need volunteers to knit wooly hats for innocent smoothie bottles. Why do they need them? From 28 November, for one week only, special bottles wearing hats will be on sale in sainsbury's (the only supermarket to sell them). For each special 250ml Innocent Smoothies bottle sold, 50p will go to charities including Age Concern and ExtraCare, who both provide support and help for the elderly.

^Oh my, those are SO cute. What a fun, simple gift to knit up as stocking stuffers for friends during the holidays!!

Since the summer heat wave is over, I'm getting back into knitting! I have trouble working on too many things at once and never finishing though.

I'm working on a huge, chunky scarf... using 2 yarns knitted as one (a camel color, and a light tan/beige color). And also trying to finish some fingerless gloves in a deep indigo color.

just finished the second sleeve to my sweater tonite...now i have two sleeves and i have to fgure out what i am going to do for the body...im sorta making it all up as i go....

^wow, that's pretty impressive to just make it up as you go! You'll have to post it when you're done. Good luck!

so, i bought some Malabrigo Merino wool - the softest wool i have ever used - and have been knitting hats and scarves in lacey patterns, and with some cables and bobbles, and different kinds of ribbing, just to keep myself amused. it's been great.

good to be back here again winter is coming - how are people's projects going?

I started back on crochet after I knitted a scarf. I have so much yarn and really want to get of some before I buy anymore, so I crocheting a granny sampler. It's one of my favorite patterns.

I think I told you gals that I talked my way into designing a reatil pattern for a yarn company, and they dyed some mini yarn skeins to my color requests. I've had the yarn since about April...

I was in the middle of projects, but I finally started writing up the pattern(s). I don't know what it is with me, but I can never knit just one thing. It's always got to be an ensemble with me. The same day they expressed interest, I sketched out a dress, top, skirt, shawl & purse. Oh yeah, I also sketched matching pants, but my software didn't that have option, so I let it go with just those.

The problem is, I had to translate each pattern with charts into 4 different sizes. I started knitting up my swatch, and the gauge wasn't matching the gauge given for that yarn. Well, anyway, all I can say is, I've been writing and rewriting all the patterns, all the charts ad nauseum. Everytime I'd knit a few rows, I'd decide something else and have to redo everything. I've grown to hate this project, and I wish I never got involved. For the tiny amount of money they're paying me (to turn over my copyright 100%, no less), it's just not worth the effort or the time.

I originally thought this would be a good starting point to get my name out there as a designer. But, unlike most every pro knitter, I'm not interested in selling patterns or books like they are. I'm interested in selling one-of-a-kind garments. So in a way, this has all been pointless for me except to give me major aggravation... :woot:

I think I'm done with writing all the patterns and charts, but I still have several more inches to knit on the swatch so they can get a true idea of what the stitches will look like. Since the original discussion was for one pattern, I have no idea what they would pay me for designing the whole ensemble--although I have been in touch and told them it's several items. I really need to get it in gear, but the thing was so involved and complex, I'm nervous to submit it without knitting every damn garment up just to check the details. Well, it would take a lifetime to do that, so that's not going to happen. :innocent:

Anyway, I've been getting into my sewing more lately--even joined the American Sewing Guild and have been attending some meetings and really enjoying it. (I just posted my first little black velvet vintage purse with handcrafted flowers to the handbags forum if you want to see one new thing I've been up to).

Maybe you all could chat up knitting a little so I could get my enthusiasm back for my project. I think the concept/design is attractive, just don't want the hassle of dealing with it.
