wow! noe, those are so cute! was the karabella yarn aurora 8??? i love the debbie bliss stuff, but it pills up after a few wears. i think i'll try it with aurora 8, i think it's an interstringable merino too. these would be nice in a wool acrylic blend too so you could wash them....or a silk and cotton ....i think im going to have to make a trip to the yarn store

i have always had good luck with aurora 8 - it knits up nice and lasts longer. i was in love with a superwash wool called Ecco, but they discontinued it, unfortunately.

lately i have been using malabrigo yarns 100% merino, and it is sooo soft next to the skin. i highly recommend it.

BTW, i worked in a yarn store for a while and it was like being addicted to some crazy drug...like homer simpson working in a donut shop!!!

yah, so i got all the cables done last nite and the darn thing is two cables too big! so my question is, if i take out 10 stitches, that would ultimately bring the pattern down in size, but still keep the stitch patterns and cable repeats right? i think that's right, but can anyone confirm it for me before i start again????

^I think it would be ok. As long as you cast on an amount that is divisable by 5 (like 35, as you mentioned)... b/c the pattern only repeats every 5 sts. Gee, I hope thats right.... You should be fine.

Oh, so I just bought the new book "Knit 2 Together". So fun! I'm attempting to make this cute neck warmer thing. I don't know which yarn to use and can't figure out how to obtain a gauge for a pattern knit in the round. I'm searching the internet for answers...

i think knitting in the round, is like doing a gauge swatch. you just see whatever your gauge is, for whatever size needles and then you just multiply that for however many stitches/inches you need in the round.

so for example, you knit a 4"x4" square on a size 10 needle and it's like 10 stitches across by 16 rows. so if you want to make a 28" circle (round) cast on 70 stitches (10 x's __ = 70 or 4"=10 stitches, so 28"= 70 stitches) and then 16 rows up would give you the 4" in width. does that make sense? it's not all that hard to do. i went to B&N too and picked up the new vogue knitting. there's a super cute pattern for cable knit leg warmers that are thigh highs!!!!! if anyone wants, i can post the pattern

i think knitting in the round, is like doing a gauge swatch. you just see whatever your gauge is, for whatever size needles and then you just multiply that for however many stitches/inches you need in the round.

one thing about knitting in the round is that the gauge will be different than if you are knitting flat, because to knit in stockinette you never have to purl. usually people purl slightly looser than they knit, so the gauge for knitting in the round is smaller than if they were knitting flat.

so, the only way to get a really accurate swatch is to knit one in the round. what i usually do is cast on a predetermined number of stitches - like 50 or so if the yarn is worsted weight - and then knit a few inches, bind it off loosely and measure it flat across.

does that make sense?

i love knitting in the round and only use circular needles regardless....

meme! great tips! i prefer knitting in the round whenever i can. also, i finished my first glove. i'll take a pic, but it has a bunch of loose ends i have to weave in. it came out really cute and fits great (after i took out two cable rows)

yah it's the knitty pattern, but i had to cast on 10 less stitches, because it was way too big. it's a cute pattern, and i found some more, even an elbow length one online.....these are really fun to knit!

have you guys been to www.knitpicks.com? they have great prices on yarn there. i ordered a bag for an ex-boyfriend sweater project (still not finished) and it came to under $40 for the yarn. impressive....

i am working so much i barely have time to knit! it's a bit frustrating - luckinly i like my job right now.....

be careful about posting patterns, as they are generally copywritten....(we were warned against doing this when i worked in a yarn shop).

knit a red head-band last night, out of a yarn that was frustrating me, creative focus worsted. the yarn felts faster than you can knit it and it is almost impossible to frog mistakes. but the results were beautiful and i am inspired to do more.

been looking around for ideas in the last two season's knitwear.

anyone working on anything for this christmas season?
