Knitting!

^thanks! You're right, it does look like that. plus, she'd need some really long circular ones.

Well I started with this circular set so I'll finish.. except I made the huge mistake of twisting the knitting somewhere  .. I'll either leave it in that twisted way or correct it with the sewing machine.

work in progress..

What happens when you knit with the cast-on twisted? I'm sort of too impatient to try it and find out, haha.

It's looking really nice, though, and that yarn looks lovely.

@ Papaya: leg warmers are a good place to start--good luck!

Also, I'm knitting another sweater... It's probably going to be rather large, drop-shouldered, and slightly fuzzy.

Haute femme-looks great!! I love the color soooo much :)

Fillipovna- Thanks, I could knit as a little girl, and only in a straight line, like a scarf or something. I've never knit around in a circle, like leg warmers, but I've heard it's not too hard once you get it :)

i've lost the huge scarf my grand ma had knitted for me some years ago last week ...
i want to ask her another one but i have a special request ...
i want it to be a mix of wool and cashmere but once again i want a big one long and large with big maille (?) ...
is it possible to make that ? or because i want cashmere it has to be small maille (?)

maille or crochet idk how to say this ...
stitch ? hook ?

i think you mean stitch ^
you are talking about the size of the holes, right?

here is my yarn ^_^
it is just plain black Merino wool

it is a bit thin in real life, but still strong (i can hang weights from it and it doesn't break). the thickest parts are 2 mm; the thinnest are half a millimetre

yes it's possible
it depends on the thickness of the yarn

you wrote you want a big stitch...
if you want a big stitch with a thin yarn, you will get a mesh (like the Rodarte picture)
if you use a thick yarn, you will get something like Sandra Backlund

I moved the conversation on spinning your own yarns to this new thread :flower:
Hand-spinning

"Rosemary Knits" is great - I love the story of the discarded wool she spun into yarn and knit up. into socks. almost makes me want to learn to spin - *almost*.:p

habu textiles has some wonderful stuff - a cone of their lambswool in a deep red is still the most i've ever spent for yarn, per yard, so far.

i'm getting ready to make this hat and fingerless glove set - it's the Pilot Hat and Flying Gloves set from Twinkle's Big City Knits:

twinklebywenlan.com

they are allegedly very easy and quick to make. i already have the yarn, i just need to get the pattern!
i'm using Twinkle Soft Chunky in French Grey. it's very pretty, slightly purple-tinged:

i can't wait to finish so that i can wear a proper hat in this ridiculously cold weather.

I like that there is a knitting thread on this forum!

I have been a long time knitter. My username is knitting inspired.

Right now I'm working on several projects, but most of my attention is on knitting Clapotis. I'm using Katia Gatsby Luxe, which is super ultra sparkly:

The yarn selection was inspired by all the animal print scarves I see lately (like the stephen sprouse for LV scarf), and the metallics trend.

I haven't seen one IRL and I can't really tell without feeling the yarn, but it looks like some sort of mohair blend. The holey look is mainly the result of the tension. As gius said, small yarn and large needles. Get either fingering weight yarn and size 11 needles or worsted weight yarn and size 15 needles. I'm just guessing of course, you would have to swatch it.

But I don't think it would be wise to wear anything like this out and about.

This scarf uses a similar concept:

You could also try doing a pair of stockings. That might look nice.

you guys use interesting yarn
ragtag what is the soft chunky made of??

maybe you all would like to see this thread
Yarns & Thread (the different kinds)
http://www.thefashionspot.com/forums/f81/yarns-thread-74787.html

it's 100% wool, and actually pretty soft. i haven't had the best luck in using wool for scarves (can be itchy on the neck), but i figure that since this is just on my hands and hair, i should be ok. B)

thanks for letting us know about the yarns/thread thread, i'll have to check that out! :flower:
