Knitting!

I will have to have a look at some of the videos for techiques I need reminding about. I picked up knitting easily, but cannot say the same for crochet. A couple of people have tried teaching me, and I tried to teach myself from a book, but can't get the hang of it at all. I wish I could, cause I love lacey crochet jumpers and jackets.

oh nice! i was reading up on ravelry, and people were noting you need to twist the two strands together when knitting. i did a felted hat and didn't do this...do you think it's necessary??

im the same way. knitting comes easily, crochet is like trigonometry:shock::lol:

lady.stardust, you are so neat as well as quick. That is a lovely colour you chose

^ Thank you!

About the twisting, I wasn't aware of that. But I find the yarn is doing that on its own. Cuz I have two balls laying on the bed in front of me. And everytime I unwind a bit more yarn, the balls roll all over the place. lol

good to know. thanks!

could you imagine this in noro yarn? OMG...it's be gorgeous!

Just a little update to say front and back is finished! I've started the sleeves, and I'm already stressing about seaming the pieces together.

i'm the opposite. :) crochet first, then knit..
my hands hurt more when i knit, but i'm getting used to it

today a lady just gave me 2 knitting machines! :o
one is for heavier yarn (Bond)
the other finer
and they both only do the basic knit stitch... no purl and you have to fiddle with the yarn yourself if you want a patterned knit. she says there was a missing add-on which creates a ribbed effect

apparently only the computerized machines do the patterned knits
where you program it and let it do its thing
but mine's non-electric
still okay i think :ermm:

Let us know how you get on with your machines, and of course show anything you make

Another update on my jacket. After running out of yarn and putting the project on hold till my shipment of more yarn came today, I finally finished knitting all the pieces. :D
I seamed one of the shoulders so far. It went pretty easy for my first time.

that's gorgeous ^ :crush:
did you stuff the collar? looks there's something inside

Thanks!

Nothing stuffed. Those two pieces are actually the panels that will be folded back and buttoned to the front. All the edges are curling because it's stockinette stitch.

Reminder of what the finished jacket will look like (hopefully!): #546

i actually love the way it looks at this stage already

so i see knitting is like sewing woven fabrics..
you sort of bind the edges.. or fold it back
i have yet to try a garment
i'm just fixing up a pattern for myself right now and once i get home i hope to start knitting it. ^^

has anyone ever seen darts on knitted clothes ?

^What are you making?

Darts are like folds, right? When I seamed my sleeves (they were knit flat), at one point the join made a little fold where I had increased stitches near the elbow.

i want to make something with a dolman sleeve
i guess it will be something like a short-sleeved sweater

yes darts are angled folds to create shaping over a curve ...
sometimes they are seams..
at the hips, breast for example

my instructor was telling me if i want to make a knit, i have to remove the darts

she also told me knits never have a lining (because you would be able to see the lining from the outside)
but i was in her closet the other day and found a knit jacket with a silk orange lining on the inside... :ninja:
