Marc Jacobs F/W 2006.07 New York

I agree with you... Edie has been overdone, some of the stuff is nice as individual pieces but im not appreciating the way its styled.

I'm sooo tired of Edie Sedgwick references. And I'm probably the only one who feels this way, but I like the Marc by Marc Jacobs line a lot better. Some of the models look like they're wearing potato sacks.

Wow, thanks for posting Theyskens. Really interesting similarities... Is there video of that 2001 show still online anywhere? I can't wait to see the MJ video. His theatrics are often great, although I could do without hearing yet another reincarnation of "Smells Like Teen Spirit."

I know those are fall colors.. but I would've liked to see something a little ... brighter maybe?

admittedly the colors are a bit dull but I'm really liking the feel of his clothes this season. can't wait to see more!

hey when does collections usually show up on style.com? like how many hours after the show? or after pics first show up?

I'm not sure what the exact timeframe is.. but if a show takes place on Tuesday.. it'll be up on wednesday usually.. so usually the day after.

the video is up at the marc jacobs site!!!! beautiful collection:heart: :flower: ^_^

I've always loved Marc Jacobs

Altho last season wasn't my favorite of all, this time he's got it all back! I think the fall collection looks gorgeous! Eventhough I can only afford his Marc by Marc line, I am sure he will make some great stuff for that too.

thanks to all for posting the pictures!!!^_^

Thx Jssy4eva.. so it looks like pregnant Karen opened the show.

I love it.. I sort of fastforwarded though a lot of it though since its almost time to sleep :D

Marc really does use all the high profile models (Liya, Missy, Karen, Daria, Gemma, etc). I think I caught Heather Bratton there, I'm not sure though, also was that short model Felicty Gilbert?

Hey Zamb, I can hear you (regarding the Oliver Theyskens references).... but I can also see many Prada references too... especially in the mood of the colours and the use of the gloves.

My opinion on MJ (and I think I've said it before) which is saddly being justified with every new collection, is that design-wise, he's not as special as Vogue has made him to be. It's the styling he uses (which I don't really like, but whatever) that makes his collections what they are. IMO, his popularity is due to the fact that his pieces are so simple (as simple as a basic Zara piece) that can be used by anyone without any particular style, and they can be copied very easily in temrs of styling. I'm not saying that all of his pieces are simple (he has the odd evening wear and special dress every now and then) but his daywear is pretty much so.

I'm just waiting every new collection for him to justify this tremendous reputation of his.... no luck so far....

I am more than impressed, it was glitz, so urban and gypsy, glamorous but unrefined, expensive, comfortable. This show alone will spawn a thousand designers, it was a show that celebrated wonder and what is seductive about great women who own themselves. Half way through I noticed there was something in me that yearned for those moments, the times and spaces that the clothes seemed to celebrate. What may not have hit the mark for some (in color and tone, in semi serious deconstruction, in Fat Albert hats and tricksy Euro styling) demonstrated undoubtedly a genuine spirit. It reeked of New York and perhaps let Lagerfeld know that, yes, Marc can wait him out.

Now, I feel the same way you do, melt977. Before, I'd always thought there was one piece in each ensemble that pulled the look together. And I always loved the fact his pieces were easily accesible yet unique (in a way). But this collection is just made up of sweaters, capes, and skirts with such pale tones, (and like you said) that it seems like I can purchase them anywhere else and duplicate the look.

However, bravo to Marc for turning me on to plaid. I've never been a fan of it, but I think I'm slowing warming up to it a bit...
I really hope those wool-like turban-like things do not become a trend...

I really didn't like the color scheme and some of the models looked like it was hard for them to walk with the stockings and the high shoes, but the some of the shoes were nice and the bags and some of the pieces like some of the jackets and gloves and dresses were good. I saw a little bit of europe and prada and the 90's grunge look.....but he always does that. I like the Marc by Marc Jacobs line better it's more for people my age any way.

Pics are up on style.com
