Natacha Ramsay-Levi Leaving Chloé, *Update* Gabriela Hearst Announced as Creative Director

Damn. The update was disappointing. Especially considering the absolute rags that were shown this season.

Hannah MacGibbon had an incredible season for F/W 2010 but since then it's really gone down hill. The brand may need a breath of fresh air...

Hannah MacGibbon Will Remain at Chloé for at Least One More Season

Hannah MacGibbon's contract at Chloé was up after this past season, and last month the house was rumored to be interviewing potential replacements, according to the Times. A Chloé spokesperson previously denied rumors that MacGibbon was leaving but neglected to confirm her contract's renewal until today, when it was reported that her contract has been extended for another season. Her fall 2011 show, which was under high scrutiny due to her supposedly precarious standing at the house, received mixed reviews. When reached for comment, Chloé’s CEO, Geoffroy de la Bourdonnaye, said, “Hannah is still with us, that’s all I can say.”

I don't know how designer contracts work but a season only? That's not too great of a safety net.

Her previous collection was actually my favourite Chloe collection in a very long time. I was hoping that they'd extend it for longer, but I suppose it's still good news.

Oh great, another season of uninspired and boring clothes.

i agree. i do believe she sent out such a strong iconic chloe collection for fall/winter because of these contract issues. while i know some of us in the blogosphere like to think that designers put together these collections in a vacuum devoid of other interests, i do believe that some of these designers do their best work when their in fear of losing their post....or trying to leap-frog into another tony position :innocent:

it would not surprise me one bit if richemont hired another deposed desginer -- christopher decarnin, john galliano, et al -- to add some electricity to this house.

If anyone deserves to design at the house it would be Reed Krakoff. This house was ready for change like a year ago.

^Sorry No, Hannah is perfect for Chloé! Maybe (in my dreams) Paulo Melim come back. Fabulous S/S 2008 Unforgettable.

unlikely. reed krakoff did for coach what tom ford did for gucci. and unlike gucci/ppr, coach gave him his own house as reward for his efforts. to walk away from coach would also mean he'd walk away from his eponymous house since coach paid for it lock, stock, and barrel.

I thought the fall collection was pretty good, but agreed with Phelps' review that it was "overkill" on the snakeskin. Must be tough to be teetering like Hannah. Wishing her success.

All right, one-season extension is still a hope she'll be out, then.

Well, let's not be that mean. She deserves a chance. Of course I'll wish her all the best but if it's as boring as last time she has to go. Chloe deserves something more fun, I think.

I'm actually a big fan of McKibbon's Chloe and I hope she stays for a good while longer than 1 season. I was in fact sorely dissapointed by Spring 11 on the runway but as I see it delivered in stores it is SUBLIME. The harshness was all in the styling, not the clothes. Had they styled the show like they did the campaign it would have been digested much more easily. Fall was a bit obvious but was in fact full of fresh ideas and fantastic clothes. So many naysayers on here but I can assure you we'll look back at Mckibbon's collections years from now and perhaps only in hindsight will they fully be appreciated. Mckibbon makes clothes you can LIVE in and is creating new ideas with that approach when most designers are only making them for show, her former boss included.

And I'm sorry, to not like her work for Chloe is one thing, to then suggest Reed Krakoff as a replacement totally invalidates your opinion. :innocent:
