I have 3 piercings... Navel, Tongue, Labret.

I had them done ages ago... the first 8 years ago  (I'm 23 now).

I had a different style back then... Lot more confused  (hey, I was a teenager), rebellious, a bit punk (not much).

Now my style is totally different. It's a lot more classical. Sometimes (especially going out at night) is rock. Sometimes vintage, like 50s, 60s (polka dots, vintage dresses). Sometimes a little boho.

I'm eclectic and I have fun with clothes, but the thing is... My piercings really don't "go" with all these influences I have now in my style (except for the "rock" one).

That being said, I cannot remove them. The more obvious/evident is the labret one. But after all these years, is a part of me. I don't consider it an "accessory" anymore, is like my eyes. A part of me.

I wrote this long entry (and sorry for the imperfect english) to ask all of you (not only the ones that have piercings)... what do you think of people who have piercings but have a style different from the one that is usually connected with them (like punk, emo...)?

Do you think piercings are an obtrusive element in different styles, or something original, edgy, different?

Thanks in advance for the replies... I'm really interested!:flower:
I think that when someone has a style that doesn't necessarily "go" with piercings that it looks really cool and unexpected. :flower:

when i perform, i put a stud in. ^^

i think your question is way too based on the idea that everybody must conform to a sterotype. a piercing is something you like and want to have, just like any piece of clothing that makes up your style. its part of your outward personality and presentation to display to others partly who you are or who you would like them to see.

yesterday was 3 weeks of my tongue piercing, i have the normal size bar now...but i still feel it's healing so it does take time. and eating depends per person...i couldn't eat well for a week (soups) and lost 2kg ;)

I have my tongue and belly button pierced. I have thought about getting more in the past but the more I actually thought about getting them, the less I wanted them and thought about how much that they would affect me on a professional level.

Ooooo thats gotta hurt! did have my tongue done but took that out as it chipped my tooth!!

^ I work for a dentist and we have alot of people coming in with chipped teeth from a tongue ring...
even people coming in with teeth chipped from their kissing partner's tongue rings!

So I'm thinking of getting a monroe for my birthday, but my job requires that facial piercings be either removed while on the clock, or at the person wears one of those little plastic "filler" things (not sure what to call it......).
I still have to talk to my boss to make sure I can wear a filler thingy at work, but how long will it be after I get the piercing before I can switch it out? Is that something I should take up with my piercer? What's the average healing time on a monroe?

Here's my ear the day I got it done...

I also want my regular earlobes, tragus, and rook done. I'll probably chicken out though. :p

How long do Tongue rings take? Can you eat? I'm considering...

Kinda late, but I'll answer anyways. After about 2 weeks, tongue piercings should feel back to normal. But it's not fully healed until 6 months to a year depending on your level of care for your new tongue piercing. So that means no oral sex till it's fully healed. :(

When I got mine done, I ate french fries right after, though it did sting a little. Just try to eat healthy foods.

Usually takes 6 weeks to a month. I had mine done back in February and it still hasn't fully healed! Safe to say there's no discharge coming out anymore. I used shea butter on all my piercings to speed up the healing process.

But when I first got it done the labret kept coming out! It almost closed twice. I think it was threaded wrong. I kept touching it a few days after I had it pierced just to keep the jewelry in. That's the price you pay for fidgeting with fresh piercings!

I was told that it's possible to get the piercing done with the plastic retainer, so I'm defiantely going to talk to my boss and see if it's a possiblity! (if not, then I'll just get it done before I leave for college. ;) ) :D

I've had facial piercings before( the more extreme ones)and enjoyed them. So, I don't judge others with them. I feel more extreme facial ones are more popular now and might cause jobs to accept people with them, as it happened with the nose piercings.

im still debating getting my septum done again .. i had it done wore it for a bit it got infected .. my own fault so i took it out ..but now i want it again but not sure weather or not to hmm .. desisions .. not that it maters what others think .. but what r ur opinions on them ?

Well I finally bit the bullet and got my nose done today...and I am so in love with it it's not even funny. It's a small 18K gold stud with a little pink stone in there. And it didn't even hurt that much, I am a pansy when it comes to pain and it was very tolerable.

That's awesome, Trista! And thanks for the detail in your description. I was going to ask you to post a picture. ^_^

Congrats Trista! ^_^ I've been thinking about getting my tragus done for a while now, but I can't decide...

Yeah, I know...I've heard from some people it's quite painful but others have said it's not that bad, so I don't know. But every time I see someone with it done I just think that I want it really bad, but I'm scared!

Thanks all!

I know a few people who got their tragus done, and they all said that it really hurt...isn't that a cartilage one of sorts?
