Yes I understand. All the teachers care about is are you interested in learning and do you do well on the tests. I am sure you are not the first they have seen. They are teachers and have to be cool to put up with 18 - 22 year olds fresh from parents. I imagine what was more of a shock was in the 80 when girls got Mohawks and shaved the side of their heads. But if you do not well then don't. Whatever makes you feel most comfortable. A new school and a higher level adds strass...

I love this kind of piercing. It's subtle and adorable. My friend had hers done in high school, and all there was left was a small scar that I didn't even notice.

^ We have something in common then! A small part of me is paranoid that some how... some way... the small ball will chip my tooth. That's the LAST thing I need. I doubt that is something that happens often, but I won't rule it out. :D

I removed all my piercings... but i think i just wanted to try them and well my belly button ring was always getting infected and hidden until i said: over!... my family just hate 'em
I like 'em...i have a crave for some nose central one but i wouldn't only get it for a while and for free... not like a trendy thing... i guess i like needles...when as a child i disliked them so much, now when i have blood test i just love it!! yeess call me weirdo.^_^

Can I ask a question about your tongue piercing, smartvscruffy?

Is it true that a tongue piercing will wear away the enamel of the teeth? I can imagine that would be true. Have you heard that from the person who did it for you?

I think the answer is that yes it's possible to wear down your tooth enamel and gums, but that's only an issue with a metal/steel ball. You can switch back and forth and put in a plastic ball and plastic retainer sometimes if it makes you nervous.

Personally I've had my tongue pierced for a while and am in the middle of multi-step oral surgery, and have been for years, and my dentists, oral surgeon, and orthodontist have never mentioned it to me, nor have they even mentioned the piercing itself.

^ that's really good to know. I want to get my tongue pierced( i haven't yet) but the metal steel ball makes me nervous, So I'm glad there are some plastic ones available cause I have looked but haven't found any.

Newbie here...I'm thinking of getting my ears pierced for the first time!
Any advice ?
What does one need to do/consider before choosing the spot?
TIA! :flower:

Wow, how exciting! First of all DO NOT GO TO CLAIRE'S. I'm sure plenty of people have had theirs done there and they've been fine, but you would be better off going to a proper salon.

I had mine done at a Piercing and Tattoo parlour. They are clean and the people there will be very well trained and will be experienced. Also, a proper parlour will pierce your ears with a needle - which sounds terrifying but I found it hurt a lot less than a gun, and it's safer.

Ask if they have Titanium jewellery, this is very unreactive so it won't cause any problems in your aftercare. If not, gold is good as well. Make sure you clean your piercing with the stuff they give you. You can also make up a salt water solution if you run out (1 part salt 2-3 parts water if I remember right).

Seriously, just go for it! It hurts for a bit and you might get annoyed that you can't change your studs for a while, but I've had my first set of lobe piercings for two years and I love being able to change my look by adding a different pair of earrings (warning, it will definitely drain your wallet :p)

I hope this was useful, good luck!! :flower:

My friend got her right nipple pierced some days ago. She also had a nose ring (but removed it after two years) and said the "pain" is pretty equal - not that much of a deal.
I for myself could never i
magine to let someone stick a needle through any part of my body :ninja: I mean, I don't mind injections but... piercings simply aren't my thing at all.
But then again, I have to say it can look really nice on some peo
ple! Also a lot of models seem to have their nipples pierced and whenever I see that, I kinda want one myself

haha, I always want one when I see them, then I remember my pain threshold is non-existant  I'm fine with ear piercings, but I would be useless with any anywhere else

Wow, immediate and amazing advice, thanks lottie!! :lucky:
How does one select the exact spot on the earlobe...to keep them symmetrical...and so that earrings don't end up facing too much outwards or inwards, etc...?

LOL! I went to Claire's when I was 9 or 10 to get mine done, it's is NOT the same anymore

well your piercer should do that for you, normally they will draw a dot on each of your ears and get you to check it's ok. I went with a friend so she checked them as well. Say if you dont think they are even. A talented piercer will pierce your ear straight and properly, ask your friends to recommend somewhere if their piercings look good. :flower:

And I assume mall stands aren't any better than Claire's, right? :ninja: I've gone to both in the past for my ears; first the mall stand, then Claire's later on to get them re-pierced. My ears have closed again since then, but believe me, if I ever decide to re-pierce them it probably won't be at Claire's...or a mall stand, for that matter.

Finally I have knowledge to share in this thread :ninja:

Mine were drawn on with a purple magic marker  And I got them done at the mall, with a gun--I think the place may have been called the Piercing Pagoda :p It didn't hurt, just stung. The initial earrings had extra thick posts, and I'm sure they were just gold plated. So I like the idea of all titanium/gold ... my skin is very sensitive, and I cannot wear anything but all gold earrings. (Haven't tried titanium, platinum ...) I'm sure if the initial pair were a proper metal, it would all have been much easier. It's been quite a few years now since I had it done (my mother picked the place--I think I was 12 or 13), and the only problems I've had have been from wearing inferior earrings.

Btw, how the earrings face I believe has to do with not the hole placement, but how your ears are set on your head. In my case, hoops kind of 'disappear' from the front view, which I don't like, so I only wear 3D ones.

i really can't stand tounge peircings, unless they don't effect how you talk... i know a few people with it done and i can hardly understand a word they say!

thanks lottie and ta-ta!:flower:

I know of a good reputable salon, so I guess that would be okay.

However, that's really interesting re. earlobe structure...when I wear hoops, I have the opposite problem, they face outwards and look kind of "wide"; that bothers me...I thought it would be resolved if I pierced the ears, but maybe not...we'll see...

what would have been easier if the initial pair were a proper metal?

no not really:p I felt way more comfortable having mine done in a place where the piercer had experience (the guy who did mine had been piercing for 10+ years), I don't think you'd get that in Claire's/at a mall stand
