Ok.. I am just going to go ahead and say it.. I don't find Kate as pretty as the British press is making her out to be

Agreed. The American press keeps going on and on about her looks but I simply don't get it. I think it's her hair that really gets me; it's very healthy but I think she should do a bang. Switch it up a bit.
Anyway, I simply do not see the appeal.

I feel the same, she has a nice smile, nice hair but the rest is just so plain and dull. There are definitely more beauitful girls out there. I don't understand what all the fuss is about. But the press will do anything for a story.
But I think they should get rid of the monarchy after the current queen dies
I agree, but Charles would be devastated!

^Agree with you guys.
And attack me as you may but I'm not wild about the idea of royals marrying commoners.
It defeats the whole purpose and takes away the magic, especially in this day and age.

Royalty started with commoners a loooong time ago.

I do think that, over time, people forget the whole commoner thing. Just look at the Crownprincesses of Europe. Mette-Marit, Maxima, Mary, Mathilde. They're all quite loved, more so then the husbands.

^I know. And you don't even need to think too far back. The husbands are technically 'half-commoners' from their mothers:lol:

I don't care if they marry commoners....I just don't like this one. I'm sure Kate is a nice enough girl, but despite what she says she has little work experience, she sat around waiting for a proposal (excuse me, she went on holiday's too) for 8 years and her family is just horrendous. Despite what everyone or St. James palace or the prince says about her, she's still not princess material.

And isn't a huge coincidence that her family starting putting up a security post at their house the day after their engagement was announced and her sister Pippa gave her first ever interview to a magazine.:innocent: I can see them singing "we're in the money" already.

Ok Kate-lovers. Let me have it!:p

For those of us who are long time royal writers and watchers, we are absolutely relieved that Kate and Wills decided to marry.

From what I understand, Westminster Abbey will be the place in which the wedding ceremony will be held. March is the most likely date at this time. Why? It's before Easter Court whereupon the Queen's primary residence is at Windsor.

Actually it's in April.

Royal wedding pencilled in for April

Prince William and Kate Middleton are hoping to marry at the end of April.

Senior royal sources confirmed that the couple have their hearts set on a spring wedding in London, and have selected a "first choice" date, thought to be in the final week of April.

The date, which is understood to be a weekday, is currently being cleared with other members of the Royal Family and Downing Street and is expected to be announced this week.

A second choice date in the summer has also been earmarked should April prove logistically problematic, with the wedding set to take place at Westminster Abbey.

An April wedding would see Prince William marrying in the same month as his father, the Prince of Wales, whose second marriage to the Duchess of Cornwall took place in Windsor on April 9, 2005.
The couple are understood to have one specific spring date in mind as their favourite. It is thought that will not be until the end of April as the Queen would not be expected to attend a major event during the Lent and Easter period.
A senior royal aide said: "Prince William and Miss Middleton have a specific date and venue in mind, and Prince William's Household is consulting with all relevant parties.
"However, they are realistic that for one reason or another, their first choice date may not work for all parties involved, and so they have selected a second choice summer date.
"Traditionally royal weddings take place on a weekday, usually a Friday rather than a Saturday, so a weekday is likely."
Next year, Lent runs from Wednesday March 9 until Saturday April 23, with Easter Monday falling on April 25, meaning that an April wedding would likely take place between Tuesday April 26 and Friday April 29.
As the final decisions were being taken on the wedding date yesterday, it also emerged that Kate Middleton is to play a central role as a working member of the Royal family after her wedding.
It is understood that she is already considering a request from the charity Starlight, which grants wishes to seriously and terminally ill children to work as their patron or ambassador.
Royal aides yesterday contradicted widespread reports that Miss Middleton, 28, would not be a working princess and that she instead intended to start a family early in her marriage to Prince William.
"Catherine has made it clear that she wants to get stuck into work for the Royal family and that she wants to support her future husband," said a senior royal aide.
"The intention is that Prince William will show Catherine the ropes: how she goes about becoming a member of the Royal family, how to work with charities and how to do the job."
The aide added: "Prince William is keen to show that Catherine wants to help him with the job, so I would expect her to attend a couple of engagements with him prior to the wedding and then many more after the wedding.
"That's when her new life will really start, but they will be joint engagements and you will not see her doing anything solo for some time.
"The couple want Catherine to take on a meaningful role, but at her own pace and not feeling under pressure."
Miss Middleton's new role is certain to lead to comparisons with the late Diana, Princess of Wales, who supported many charities.
Party Pieces, the Middleton's family business, already has links with Starlight and some friends of Miss Middleton expect her to accept a formal role with the charity next year.
In September last year, Miss Middleton and her family attended a charity auction at the Saatchi Gallery in London to raise money for Starlight.
Miss Middleton hosted a table at the £100-a-night black tie event and her parents donated a party for 20 youngsters as a prize for the auction.
In 2008, Miss Middleton was also involved with organising the Boodles Boxing Ball in London, which was attended by Prince William and Prince Harry, and raised more than £100,000 for Starlight.
The charity was founded by the actress Emma Samms, who starred in Dynasty, and its current ambassadors include the actresses Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller and the fashion designer Matthew Williamson.
Another charity that Miss Middleton may consider adopting is Place2Be, which provides counselling to schoolchildren in need.
In 2008, she helped to organise a roller-disco charity event in London for Place2Be, during which she was photographed wearing yellow hot pants lying on the floor after taking a tumble in her roller-skates.
Royal aides also stressed that, contrary to media reports and her "Waity Katie" nickname, Miss Middleton has been working full time for many years, but has preferred not to publicly address criticism that she has been work-shy.
She has been "project manager" of her family's firm for more than four years, overseeing new designs, new catalogues, the photography of new products, marketing and other duties.
"She has been working very long hours for a very long time," said a source.

Im actually really happy for them. I don't get the Monarch/Royal hate. The English monarchy isn't something you can just remove when it has so much historic significance.

And I like Kate Middleton, she's quite intelligent isn't she? And when did William turn all ugly?

Why do people think her family is so awful? I know she has a drug addict uncle but I think every family has one black sheep.
Also isn't her family self made millionaires? Would they really be holding their breath for some of the royal money?

Did anyone see the Kate/Queen sketch last night on SNL?
Fred Armeson played the Queen and was a riot. Anne Hathaway played Kate with the perfect amount on no personality. I am not insulting her, I just think noboday really knows what she is like since the first time she was permitted to speak in public was just days ago.

The English monarchy actually ceased to exist 300 years ago....

:blink: I hope she is; what made you think so?

I'm not arguing how long the monarchy has been around, I'm just stating its political significance. The English monarchy is one of the most important monarchies of all time.

And regarding Kate, I thought she had some sort of high educational qualification. She's not a royal thought right? I dont even think her family is aristocratic.

No, she's just a commoner just like most of us. Though very far removed, she has some royal connection but it's significance is 0,0000%

A senior councillor in Greater Manchester has apologised after calling Prince William and Kate Middleton "multi-millionaire parasites".

Councillor Mike Connolly, who is the leader of Bury Council's Labour group, made the comments on Facebook.

He was responding to a status update by a party member, congratulating the couple on their engagement.

"In this age of ConDem austerity will these multi-millionaire parasites be paying for their own wedding?" he said.

Today, Mr Connolly said: "I regret what I said and I apologise for the phrase I used."

"Local people and hardworking families have to pay for their own weddings and I hope that Prince William and Kate Middleton do just that."

The leader of Bury Liberal Democrats, councillor Tim Pickstone, said he had written to the leader of the Labour Party Ed Milliband and his deputy Harriet Harman, asking them to take action over the comments.

He wrote on his website: "Councillor Connolly is, of course, entitled to his own views, but as a civic leader in our Borough, it's certainly my opinion that these sort of views are highly inappropriate."

Clarence House announced on Tuesday that the couple had become engaged while on holiday in Kenya in October.

They are due to marry next spring or summer. The date and venue are yet to be announced.

seriously though, they better pay for their own f'ing wedding.

The English monarchy actually ceased to exist 300 years ago....

It did?

Perhaps you mean the notion of "Absolute Monarchy".

Today, the monarchy in the United Kingdom is a Constitutional Monarchy. In other words, the monarchy still exists, obviously, though the reigning monarch has no "real" power.

The English and Scottish crowns merged 300 years ago, creating the British monarchy. Sorry if I seem pedantic, when people use English and British interchangeably, as a future subject of Queen Catherine (nobody ever called her Kate!) I have to right this wrong.
