Project Runway Season 3

I'm not trying to be rude or sacastic, but I honestly would like to know who are the many great designers who come from texas and conneticut...I can't think of any major designers who aren't based in major cities...

I know that Tom Ford is from Texas.

^If I remember correctly, Todd Oldham was also from Texas :flower: If you're talking about being based in a major city, however...it's no surprise that it needs to be somewhere like NYC for anyone to have maximum exposure/reputation boosting.

As for this week's episode - I liked Jeffrey's dress. Yep

tom ford is from texas and betsey johnson is from connecticut. they may not be that great, but my point was that many major designers come from all walks of life.

you dont have to go to certain areas or cities to find an american that dresses well... that just doesnt make sense, there could be someone in the middle of nowhere who dresses really well people cant make such general statements

well let's say you see MORE well dressed people in certain places. how come when i take road trips and stop by middle of nowhere all the hicks are looking me like im an alien. and so many people have said are you in a band? because no one in that village dresses stylish. so there you go.

but yep. back to prw discussion kids.. :D

I don't know...they're pretty amazing, IMHO! B)

But ultimately, those expanding from PR fame have little chance of making it big like they did. Who knows, though? Someone might make me eat my words eventually

I love michael i thin he is going to be one of the ones in the final three.

And oh yeah, Anna Sui is from Detroit.

And if you notice, a lot of the Project Runway designers aren't from major fashion-oriented cities. Michael, the big favorite is from A-Town. He's reppin' the dirty south. B)

but are they really designing "fashion"? i dont think gowns are so much fashion, they are something to wear in a party etc. id like them to design more usable clothes but with the high end touch...
judging from the contestents personal style i think jeffrey is the only one with a good sense of style.

agreed! the only 2 i truly loved from the get go... jeffrey and allison.

on tim's podcast.... he said that catherine was not the first pick as the guest judge/host in paris... it was suppose to be gaultier, but something happened and he couldn't make it. that would have been interesting to see.

Keep in mind that they're only designing what PR's weekly challenges want them to design, though ^_^

*drooling* yes!!

I don't understand why Kayne seems to be so unloved. Maybe I'm just tacky myself, but I usually don't find what he designs to be over-the-top. Most of his designs are incredibly figure flattering, and so far, I haven't hated anything he's made. At least he's not boring.

As for Jeffrey, his attitude is waaaay off putting, but he's produced some good stuff. Overall though, his style isn't my favorite. I also think that Uli's overrated. She basically produces the same design over and over again. She really needs to step it up!

Michael, Laura, Kayne and Malan were the ones that I loved from the beginning.

^ yeah i agree too. but then again, some big name designers dont dress themselves so well.

Nevermind, Kayne isn't so unloved! I went to the "Rate the Runway" thing at bravotv.com and he's in 2nd place with a 3.94. I gave him a 5, but I still think that Jeffrey should've won :)

Let's please get back on topic- no debating of which designers come from which city- this is a thread for PR so let's stick to that :judge: and no insulting of fellow members!

Why do all the judges like Jeffrey?
His style is not that good. It's so... 1999 Hot Topic. Especially the outfit he made for himself. A t-shirt with a skull on it? Yeah, that's edgy.

I really don't like when PR designers rely on prints. I love prints, but they're usually used with a simple pattern. It's not being innovative at all; whoever designed the fabric did all the work for them. Like Jeffrey's plaid dress that all the judges liked so much. He didn't make that plaid! Not that I expect him to weave his own cloth or anything, but that dress would have been unremarkable if done in a solid color.

Uli is an exception, because she does uses patterns skillfully, combining different ones. The outfit she made in the mom challenge had stripes and a pattern on one garment, and looked good too. And the dress she made for herself combined patterns too. She's actually doing something with the fabric.

yeah i honestly hated the outfit jeffrey made for himself, and those ill fitting sunglasses? he never does anything original
